Taka actually brought a very interesting thought to my head. Imagine if Piccolo met Cell in the middle of the night. Like a literal nightmare stalker creature creeping up in the shadows. I cannot even imagine how terrifying that would have been.. and the actual scene is scary enough as it is!!!
Honestly I loved how Cell's introduction was handled in the abridged series. While not dead silence like the original dub, which was phenomenal in its own right, you guys still managed to keep his introduction just as creepy and disturbing as the original. Honest kudos to you.
I just realized how perfect the timing of this is. Over here we have the first appearance of Imperfect Cell, while over on the other commentary we just had the "last" appearance of Imperfect Cell.
1:00 Honestly? This is the exact same situation as the Saiyan Saga and they’re making the exact same mistake. They know that the strongest (or two if they don’t want to give Vegeta all the credit. Gods know his ego’s massive enough. No need to make it go Ultra prematurely) aren’t a match for 18 or 17. Is all of them going at them at once without any strategy or real coordination really going to make the difference? 5:13 I quote this pretty regularly. 7:02 Based on one of Taka’s clips, Sonny Strait’s pretty happy too because now he’s got a new quotable that isn’t a Kamehameha. “If it was a healing ability in a fighting game”. That is what it looks like! The Senzu Bean assist Krillin can use in FighterZ has a chance of giving a “dud” where instead of dealing damage and going away, it drops on the floor for someone to pick up and eat to recover some of their health. 12:53 He’s left the Lookout on at least two instances in DBZA: once to show the remaining protags how to get to Namek and once to gather the Dragon Balls make a wish on Shenron as Kami’s/King Kai’s proxy. 18:15 Here’s the thing though: Bulma had to have known this wouldn’t work. I don’t see how Bulma for having known Goku for years now would have not known that he hated artificial grape flavoring. She was setting him up to fail in so many ways, intentional or not. 21:00 For all Yamcha knows there’s still only the two Androids, 19 and Gero/20. He has no reason to believe that there’s three (four) more. 48:00 Between Nail and Kami reappearing during ToP when Piccolo thought he was going to lose to the U6 Namekians and the zoomed in on Mr. Popo when he threatens to ban Vegeta from using the HTC, I’m convinced that at least one person working at Toei is a stealth fan of DBZA and/or pays really close attention to what DB fans think of certain things about it. 50:44 And that’s just it; it’s only leftovers. The city hasn’t been leveled as it was when Vegeta and Nappa came to Earth. There’s no corpses unlike when the Freeza Force came to Dende’s village. The people here are already dead and gone but there’s no indication of how and no structural damage done. It’s very methodical and otherwise clean, unnaturally so.
AKA the biggest problem with how the series handles power levels, as mentioned by the group in a previous commentary, at least with Raditz and Nappa, the difference in level was still made for a tense fight, with strategy and technique could shift the tide, but once it got to Namek it was a pure numbers game
@@kurosakikun96”With strategy and technique”. I wouldn’t say there was strategy or technique with the Nappa fight. It was mostly desperation and trying a bunch of things and seeing what sticks (which none of them did. The Kienzan might’ve though). The “fight” against the Androids had even less strategy and technique. It was full frontal assault. No coordination, no planning. No way that was going to work.
@Rexaura888 it is initially made to look like several things were going to work against Nappa though, as shown with him being surprised by moves several times across the fight, and several combos were pulled off flawlessly until it came to Gohan's turn, who really shouldn't have been there for the most part, then yeah, the fact that there was no strategy involved in the fight with 17 and 18 kind of proves the point, it all became a numbers game, and everyone that was weaker than the super saiyans just threw up their hands in defeat
5:30 Cocker Rage Syndrome is a rare seizure disorder, affecting less than 10% of cocker spaniels. It basically causes them to flip out for a few seconds at a time, but being a seizure disorder, it's completely unpredictable and they are left disoriented with no idea of their actions during the fit. Imagine Krillin doing THAT. Edited for accuracy.
Vaguely related, my aunt has a dog that I think is bipolar or something. Because it will do something kinda like that. You can see a switch flip in its head and it gets all still and growly. And then it will go put itself into timeout away from people until the change passes. Its super weird. The fact that it seems to know that its changed and deliberately puts itself away from people so it won't do anything is really cool. Not a cockerspaniel but I wonder if its something similar.
2:00 the hilarious thing is this is actually fixing a plot hole because the characters actually group up all the time up to this point and now have the excuse of they should've just listened to Krillin. They group up on Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, Recoome, Guldo, Frieza to name a couple incidents. They just stop ganging up on stronger opponents after this. It even gets called back later when rather than Android 16 thinking Android 18 should've joined the fight to help 17 she should've run away from the opponent he didn't think he would definitely win.
My favorite line from the entire series is "Who's got two broken arms and is a total bitch" "This guyyyyy" Edit: I had no idea Gilf and 18 were voiced by the same person. Their tones and personalities are exact opposites edit 2: I'm at Taka addressing Kaiser's audio and I cannot stress enough for people who haven't; *listen to the show on a headset.* Scott has made sounds that have literally bounced in multiple directions in my ears.
I want a fan comic where android 18 finds the last country music singer on a desert road and it leans towards him discussing the philosophy over the beauty and purpose of music and she just cuts him off blasting him.
By all means keep going with the solo commentary. It’s cool that you joined the other guys but at this point I am so used to my mid-week commentary fix. I can’t wait till the weekend😩
With the "Cells are boring"-bit, Kaiser and Lani were also auper proud if it. I never even noticed it until a pandemic-related rewatch. I like the bit with theoretical physics waaay more! It's such a smart little joke, well placed after a bigger plot-drop. I'm all for it!
There's not a lot of series where I would watch 3 separate creator commentaries multiple times through each, but here we are with DBZA where I've watched the original commentary streams multiple times through and now fully expect to watch these new commentary videos through multiple times as well. Love you guys and your work!
I think Krillin used to be a very physical features kind of guy when thinking about women, but then when he met 18 he realized he was going about things all wrong and quickly rearranged his priorities.
It helps that his previous girlfriend, who he hooked up with on a purely superficial basis, turned out to be a plant who purposefully, remorselessly put him into crippling debt.
It always struck me as weird that Trunks carried that sword around, that while useful in killing Frieza, was useless against 17 and 18, both in his timeline and this one.
Ehh. It was MORE useless here. But at least they tried to dodge it in his timeline, which certainly made it seem like if he was stronger it'd be a useful weapon.
Frieza was the only villain he could truly flex on, hence the bravado shown in that encounter. The sword is an ok weapon, dependent on the user more than the item. Since the sword isn't that special, the show doesn't do a good job emphasizing why Trunks loved using it when Ki attacks work just fine.
Is it just me or did they slightly change Piccolo's design after he fused with Kami? As a kid watching the, I always thought they were basically showing us what they look like before they split. Basically revealing Piccolo's true form
You should keep doing these commentaries on your own! I really enjoy your take on what happened behind the scenes and you get to talk more rather than sharing the time with Lani and Kaiser, please keep doing these!! ❤
25:08 I think the way Time Travel works in this arc is how I would practically always do time travel Trunks goes back in time, and altering the timeline causes time to split between their timelines Then when Cell jumps back he effectively doubles them since he jumped back into a timeline where Trunks would come in to I suppose the question then would be how Trunks managed to go back to the same timeline he'd already altered, which. . Super kind of answers but that answer brings Cell's time travel into question. Only thing I can think of is that Bulma thought ahead and put in a mechanism to determine what timeline you wind up in? Edit: 30:50 See, the way it goes, there's four timelines. Timelines A, B, C, and D Trunks A comes back in time, creating Timeline B out of Timeline A, warns the Dragon Team, leaves, comes back to help out with the Androids and learn some things, there is no time travelling Cell Cell A kills Trunks A and takes his time machine and heads even further back into Timeline B, turning the Trunks that would come into that timeline into Trunks C, and Timeline B into Timeline D Or you could think of them as Trunks A-2 and Timeline B-2. The letter codes don't really matter. Cell's timeline is the original one Depending on how you look at it, Trunks's timeline is either the third or fourth. He altered the main timeline, but also his timeline technically is no different from Cell's until after Cell is dead, so is A-2 Trunks's timeline actually Timeline C or Timeline D?
Now that we have reached the end of the Taka cut, I can say for a fact that I wish I'd been watching it live on Twitch. But I am also far happier that Taka joined Lani and Kaiser for the sell saga. It was nothing short of a blessing to have the three of you together again in the same room, and it made my heart so happy to see.

@51:16 I love your guy’s reference to Halloween 2 (1981) here, the original Halloween 2 from 81 was my first slasher/horror movie too and thus it holds a very special place in my heart, and anytime it gets mentioned/referenced/or brought up positively it makes me feel good 🥹🥰☺️. So thanks guys. Also at @52:49 the reference to Frankenstein with Cell greeting Piccolo by calling him friend (something the Monster does a lot, especially in Bride of Frankenstein but also other things), is inspired and great; and it totally makes sense. After all Cell is basically Frankenstein’s Monster; it’s just that with Cell the dead people that are stitched together to make him, the stitching is done (fittingly) at the cellular level.
There's actually a complete story and history behind why we don't wear capes anymore, I recall I watched like an hour long video on the topic about a year ago. The tldr is basically that there are two main reasons: 1. All clothes used to be made by hand, and as a result, the vast majority of clothing was made of simple shapes that could be stitched together in a reasonable amount of time, fitted clothing was exclusively for the mega-rich as a way to display wealth, and a cape is literally just a rectangle. 2. A cape is really annoying to wear in a modern context, they're really much better for people who ride horses everywhere. They make it difficult to get into a car or drive while wearing them and make it almost impossible to wear backpacks or use shoulder-slung bags. If you ride a horse everywhere you carry your stuff in saddlebags, and the cape doesn't interfere with riding at all.
The thing I love about the "all these squares make a circle" joke is how it's referenced again in the Cell arc when PC is making his tournament ring and somehow makes a circle out of squares.
I love rewatching DBZA (especially with your commentary) because I'm still noticing jokes that I never recognized. "Oh I think I kicked an alien that looked like that once." Fricking Dodoria... Duh! But I never put the two together.

Takahata is like Scott Summers/Cyclops, he has to keep the sunglasses on or he's gonna manifest The Weary 101 wherever he goes.
My favorite line from the entire series is "Who's got two broken arms and is a total bitch" "This guyyyyy"
Edit: I had no idea Gilf and 18 were voiced by the same person. Their tones and personalities are exact opposites
edit 2: I'm at Taka addressing Kaiser's audio and I cannot stress enough for people who haven't; *listen to the show on a headset.* Scott has made sounds that have literally bounced in multiple directions in my ears.
6:50 actually taka in DBZ bt3 yajirobe has an ability that literally does that
36:41 But the time machine was Cell's last hope too.
It was the only way he could achieve perfection.
SENZU BEAN! has been my text notification for years. One of my favourite Krillin jokes.
TFS's interpretation of Roshi is basically exactly what Toriyama would have done if he didn't have to tone it down.
I want a fan comic where android 18 finds the last country music singer on a desert road and it leans towards him discussing the philosophy over the beauty and purpose of music and she just cuts him off blasting him.
I too would read that.
What if all the Cells cannibalized each other and that's why there's only one?
Just what I needed tonight. Imperfect Cell has come... to bring us joy.
WANNA SEE ME DRINK THIS GUY???
By all means keep going with the solo commentary. It’s cool that you joined the other guys but at this point I am so used to my mid-week commentary fix. I can’t wait till the weekend😩
With the "Cells are boring"-bit, Kaiser and Lani were also auper proud if it. I never even noticed it until a pandemic-related rewatch. I like the bit with theoretical physics waaay more! It's such a smart little joke, well placed after a bigger plot-drop. I'm all for it!
Do anybody remember when Trunks replayed the beat down in his POV?
20:14 this is my favorite joke out of the whole series, thank you whoever came up with it
Good to have Taka caught up now. These were a treat.
There's not a lot of series where I would watch 3 separate creator commentaries multiple times through each, but here we are with DBZA where I've watched the original commentary streams multiple times through and now fully expect to watch these new commentary videos through multiple times as well. Love you guys and your work!
29:11 Just love the small echo tthey have when talking since they are in an enclosed space
So much love man. So much love for all of TFS.
We finally caught up with Taka's solo commentary.
18:41
I swear, Roshi is like in my Top 3 Favorite Characters for this series. He doesn't get to do or say much, but every line gets a laugh out of me.
He really has achieved the perfect bridge lol. Taka has been in that pose for so long his brain might be upsidedown 😂
I actually can’t hear krillin’s normal voice anymore it just doesn’t sound right I’m so used to lani’s
Same
It's amusing that Piccolo and Vegeta both sound pretty recognizable compared to their official dub voices, but Krillin is extremely different.
You should keep doing these commentaries on your own! I really enjoy your take on what happened behind the scenes and you get to talk more rather than sharing the time with Lani and Kaiser, please keep doing these!! ❤
21:27 DO IT FOR THE VINE!
25:08
I think the way Time Travel works in this arc is how I would practically always do time travel
Trunks goes back in time, and altering the timeline causes time to split between their timelines
Then when Cell jumps back he effectively doubles them since he jumped back into a timeline where Trunks would come in to
I suppose the question then would be how Trunks managed to go back to the same timeline he'd already altered, which. . Super kind of answers but that answer brings Cell's time travel into question.
Only thing I can think of is that Bulma thought ahead and put in a mechanism to determine what timeline you wind up in?
Edit:
30:50
See, the way it goes, there's four timelines. Timelines A, B, C, and D
Trunks A comes back in time, creating Timeline B out of Timeline A, warns the Dragon Team, leaves, comes back to help out with the Androids and learn some things, there is no time travelling Cell
Cell A kills Trunks A and takes his time machine and heads even further back into Timeline B, turning the Trunks that would come into that timeline into Trunks C, and Timeline B into Timeline D
Or you could think of them as Trunks A-2 and Timeline B-2. The letter codes don't really matter.
Cell's timeline is the original one
Depending on how you look at it, Trunks's timeline is either the third or fourth. He altered the main timeline, but also his timeline technically is no different from Cell's until after Cell is dead, so is A-2 Trunks's timeline actually Timeline C or Timeline D?
I like how fast taka caught up with the series😂
Now that we have reached the end of the Taka cut, I can say for a fact that I wish I'd been watching it live on Twitch.
But I am also far happier that Taka joined Lani and Kaiser for the sell saga. It was nothing short of a blessing to have the three of you together again in the same room, and it made my heart so happy to see.
Welching became part of my vocabular after watching this when it aired!
Cool. Thanks for yer hard work soldier. I will miss having 2 different videos to look forward to. However, the three of yall together feels jusssss right.
15:32 welching is better and funnier than bitching in the context of the dialogue.
This is Terminator T1 and T2 and T3 maybe TGenesis....
ngl I wish you'd keep doing the solo Taka commentaries- there's something wonderful and charming about doing it while streaming and just your own chat banter instead of inter-creator banter
I still remember Cell's DBZA reveal so vividly and it still gives me goosebumps every time. Absolutely perfect, no pun intended.
19:43 Kaiser's phenomenal delivery tells you *everything* you need to know about what Trunks thinks of the androids in a single word!
Fitting that this set of episodes precedes Taka joining Lani and Kaiser in their commentary.
I LOVE getting to this series when the episodes first drop! Thanks for uploading multiple vids at once taka! Its mad enjoyable! ❤❤
Joke's on you, Chi-Chi. If Gohan flies too fast, the GPS will think he's a missile and deactivate.
The "nope" idea on the time capsule made me laugh a lot. That would have been amazing
There's actually a complete story and history behind why we don't wear capes anymore, I recall I watched like an hour long video on the topic about a year ago. The tldr is basically that there are two main reasons:
NERRRRRRRD. JK
Oh hes still screaming i completely forgot about vegetas arm being broken 😂😂 thank you Taka love the intro 0:02
I need a pick me up
"Taka Cut, just came out"
YES
27:04-27:06
Cell: “WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME, YOU HAPLESS LITTLE SH*t???!!!”
Gohan: “I said I'm bored. You're boring me”
Cell was the first major villain I watched when this was on TV. Y’all did This and I cheered so loudly at how y’all did it. S++ tier
1:12 Yamcha to Tien "Really, man. You shouldn't last 30 seconds?" 😂😂😂😂 Tien can dish the burns but cant take them himself
The thing I love about the "all these squares make a circle" joke is how it's referenced again in the Cell arc when PC is making his tournament ring and somehow makes a circle out of squares.
yeah but all of gokus friend wanted to kill him or hurt him badly at one point 8:00
0:59 especially because they attacked the androids unprovoked due to actions committed in another timeline!
Please keep doing these also!! I watch both commentaries and love them.
That random commercial. Pure gold. Lolol
I love rewatching DBZA (especially with your commentary) because I'm still noticing jokes that I never recognized. "Oh I think I kicked an alien that looked like that once." Fricking Dodoria... Duh! But I never put the two together.
