My Mom & I are in week 5 of de-cluttering her basement. One more week should finish it. Thank Goodness! An upcoming waterproofing installation has forced us to clear it out. It's been a lot of hard work, but I would rather do it now than later. I'm also an only child, so when the time comes, it will fall on me. I am so proud of Mom for letting go of so much stuff. Once we recover from the basement clean out, and it is on to the upstairs!
You do all this together and it may seem like a chore to someone or something stressful ..... but you are actually having fun, spending time together and make new memories .... I love it 😊
I received multiple glass serving trays as wedding gifts 32 years ago. I gradually decluttered down to two. Our daughter got married this summer and I forgot to use those trays. I donated them last week!
I recently watched a minimal mom video. Her suggestion was to write the date on paper and store with the item, if you are unsure if you want to let it go. If it is used, remove the date. If it isn't, when you go back to it, you will know how long it has been unused. Such a great suggestion. 😊
It’s so interesting to see her go back over things she had decided to keep and let go of more. I think we learn to trust our decisions and realize that we rarely regret letting go of things. I can hardly remember most of the things I’ve passed on to others.
I've been decluttering for 4 years now. Just last week, I got rid of another large plastic bin of items from the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. I gave a lady at our church 8 items of clothes and some jewelry. Plus 2 weeks ago, I got rid of 3 small trash bags of 58 old photographs and a lot of the stuff that my kids made in preschool that did not have dates. I'm starting another bin this week.
On one level, this makes me so sad to watch. My mom also lived in Sweden for a time and collected a ton of beautiful things … but was never able to let any of it go, no matter how hard I tried to help her declutter. When she passed, most of it went to a professional house declutterer (a business that cleans out houses after someone - usually elderly - has died) How much I would have loved to do what you’re doing now with your mom! 😢 But on the other hand, I am able to declutter (death clean?) my own stuff now and give some of it to my daughter and son - and tell the stories of the things as I pass them on. That’s been great. 😊Anyway, thank you for another inspiring video - the death cleaning concept is really wonderful.
Another great one! I’m your mom’s age and this video has inspired me to make another sweep through my house. You’ve both convinced me that I can find more to declutter. Thanks! 😊
Loved this video with you two together. Kathy, I am at your stage in my life. Still wanting to get rid of the china, but right now not brave enough to yet as my mom gave it to me for my wedding shower 36 years ago. One of these days I will though. Watching you two together is my motivation. Keep those Swedish death cleaning videos coming! Love you two!
Shannon, love your videos with Mom Kathy, a little at a time is a healthy process to decluttering if you're able! Your mom is from a the era where we had china, fancy glasses, etc for entertaining. You're home looks so much calmer and welcoming!💖
Good video! You and your mom decluttering have inspired me to declutter more and more stuff. About 2 months ago I finally decluttered my 8 piece place setting of China and crystal along with the cloth napkins that matched them. A friend of mine said she wanted them and paid me $50 for the set of China even though I was just happy to give the set away to someone that was actually going to use the China. She said she never had a complete set of formal China and always wanted some. She was very happy to get it. So it was a win win situation.
Hey Shannon, always love seeing you and your mom together! She did such an amazing job decluttering in today's video! Wow, good for her for getting rid of her China. We have actually never owned China and I'm glad we didn't have to make that decision! Thanks for sharing!💖
Hi Shannon, your Mom did a great job!! Now she has more space in her home, less stuff and it will be easier for her to clean her home. Plus her home won't be cluttered with stuff. I'm only in my 40's and I started Swedish Death Cleaning in 2021 and I continued into this year, decluttering my clothes, shoes, and shredding my papers. Man I didn't realize I had so much papers until I started looking through my papers. I'm moving into a smaller home so I will be taking less stuff with me. Kathy is funny 🤣. It's nice to see you helping and supporting your Mom as she declutter her home.
I love watching you and your mom. Kathy is such a hoot. Every single time she thinks she’s not going to have anything to get rid of and every single time she does. It just proves that doing a little at a time and revisiting a place over and over again is the way to do it. I’ve heard that decluttering a little at a time builds better decluttering muscles than doing a great big clean out because you don’t really learn anything from the great big clean out.
You lovely ladies keep me motivated to let go of things. I just dropped off several boxes of the “good” dishes and an entire “fancy” glass collection that we never used. Also, several mugs that never really served us well, freeing up valuable space. I find it’s so much easier to donate to a charity store than to try to sell these things. It’s quick and all proceeds get used to feed the needy in my community.
Really good, l have a lot of inspiration from you and your Mom it has helped me a lot to clear stuff which l do not want my boys to have to clear to much when hubby and l are not here x
Great video with your Mom!! I’m a huge proponent of the Swedish death cleaning philosophy!! Last summer I decluttered the whole house. I have no issues with new clutter accumulating so now I’m making another sweep through applying the Swedish death cleaning approach. I’m not very old but have decided I don’t want to be spending my retirement or golden years dealing with stuff and it’s unfair to burden others with it when you’re gone.
I will comment that you appeal to such a broad audience including your Mom. We over 60 people can identify with her challenges and we admire both of your strategies. Very instructive. Thank you.
Bonjour, your painting with the fish would be cool in your boys' room if there is room for it. Children usually love the underwater world :) They must be so proud of their talented mum! The 2 big platters are beautiful and very useful for dinner parties or family meals. Your mother's lipstick is gorgeous on her :) Well done for making space in her cupboards! I'm still working on this but it's hard because in ours are only things I love, expensive and beautiful, mostly from France, where I am from and special gifts or heirloom. They truly bring me joy and I use them every time I can.
I thought your mum was about my age so I was really impressed that she could sit cross legged on the floor!! Then she said, “It’s not easy for me to get down on the floor and get back up again”😂 Made me feel so much better. Then she said, “I miss having parties but I don’t miss having parties” Yup. Then she had to lay flat on the floor for her back. I feel that. Cathy is so relatable! 😄
I LOVE all the videos that you have with your mom in it. It makes me so happy to see the two of you decluttering together, sharing stories, laughing and having fun!🥰
I am a tad older than your beautiful Mom. But I can so relate to her inventory. I also get tough after seeing you work together and just let it go. Thank you both so much.
Omg. 😀I declutter like your mom. I keep some dishes thinking my 2 daughters would like them but every time I ask them I get the same answer ‘ no mom thank you’ so will get them out of my kitchen now. I love this video with your mom decluttering, it’s real life stuff that makes me smile. Thank you
You two have far too much fun decluttering! My mom, 98, and we've been doing this for 3 years since Dad passed. It's hard. At least, when she is no longer here, I know what remains since I've taken care to sort putting like things together. Poor Mom sees items as worth far more than they are. So, much will have to wait. I just don't want my kids to face what my siblings and i will have to deal with. And we're in our 70's!
Shannon, minute 14:34 in the video is pivotal!!! She had all that stuff that she inherited and never used it!! We need to break the cycle of passing down generational "stuff" for us to hold on to that we'll never use and just takes up way too much space! Nice work!!!
This is so great! I am going to share this with my mom, who I am pretty sure still has baby toys at her house for when my children come over and they are now 25, 22, and 16. 😂
This video is brought to you by the word "Nuts" 😅 You two crack me up😂 I like how your Mom shared decluttering is an on-going process, she does a little, gets comfortable with what was decluttered and then she does more. Nice job🎉
Hey ladies, I love watching you both declutter. I wish I had someone to do it with but unfortunately the people in my life are not helpful when it comes to decluttering. They just say "why do you have it or just get rid of it" and that doesn't help me I just end up shutting down and saying forget it.
Shannon, when I saw your mom splitting pajamas. I did same thing and let go of top and kept pants. I’m getting rid of dishes on bottom cabinets because it is so hard to get back up! Your mom and you give me the push I need and thank you! ❤😊
Hi dear Shannon and Kathy, what a great video ❤ Kathy is just as inspired by you Shannon, as I am 🙏 Last 2 months I went through our appartment. It's only 82 square meters (Dutch meters) and we are pretty organized people, but oh oh, we found so much to declutter again 😂 as Kathy a lot of China stuf and glasses we never use. I'm so exited, in two days the thriftshop comes to get my China cupboard, so I can move a chest of drawers from my bedroom to place between my kitchen and hobby table and I can use it for both purposes! Decluttering in the Swedisch death way is so great, hubbie is 82, I'm (only 😂) 63 and it's a pleasure for us to do it 🌺 Feels free!! I have no kids, hubbie has one daughter, but she has enough in her home for her, her hubbie and their 2 sons. Thank you both 🙏 you are special ⚘ bye bye, love from the Netherlands, Anjo 🇳🇱🫂
Hi Shannon! Another great video with your mom and continuing to declutter! I inherited my mother’s China (which we only used maybe 2 x growing up - just was on display in the China cabinet back in the day-lol). I immediately sold my dishes in a garage sale as was ready for a change. Within 2 weeks realized the dishes wouldn’t work. Dinner plates too small, bowls were shallow, etc. took them to an antique store to sell and then purchased a new set of dishes! I was not going to hold onto them just to store them. Would much rather have someone enjoy them. When I began my decluttering journey, I got rid of everything I did not use. I figured if I needed something, I could buy it at that time. Kathy, I get up off the floor the same as you😂😂 - we are about the same age. You are doing such a fantastic job with your decluttering!!! Your house is looking great! Love you two❤!
Hello from southern CA. Keep up on these with your MOM. I've over 68 yrs old and have a small condo, my main clutter is craft items for my greeting card making in the last 22 years. Re splitting up sets: I have tons of rubber stamps fo card making that come in sets of 5 or more stamps. I have decided I can donate some of the stamps, but keep the sentiment stamps for example. Having someone come over Monday to help. Hugs
Such a great video! Kathy, I love your method of going through areas of your home multiple times. That helps me to let things go as well. Shannon, you are such a great assistant! You ask really good questions and don't push to get rid of things. I need to watch this again before I help family members declutter 😀
I am your mom's age and I declutter little at a time, too. I feel so good letting things go. Now, I just have to convince my husband to declutter, too. 😅
Hi Shannon & Kathy! Yay! My fav video that you two do together! I had the same carafe 😅 but training myself not to keep everything I've acquired over yrs! Love you ❤ both. You bring joy!
My mother-in-law moved to another state after her husband passed. It took us half a year to declutter and pack her. They spent 50 years in the house and had never decluttered. It was so overwhelming and she wanted to bring everything with her so it cost so much money for a moving truck and storage. Now she’s back with us and most everything she brought with her got left behind. So I guess what I am trying to say is the “stuff” can be a burden, not only to the person but their adult children.
You are so right! I am decluttering since 2016 and still going round for round. My appartement is rather small and I don't have a tone of stuff but it has become a lifestyle of constant questioning if I still need x,y & z. Love your motivating videos 🤗
I'm a hoarder. Thanks for this helpful mother daughter cleaning video. It's got me motivated. Mom I ❤your advice:take it one day at a time and do everything slowly. Thanks. For not letting me get overwhelmed
Yay ! Glad you are decluttering even more ! I’ve set up a couple of tables in a spare room and am going to start putting stuff from the kitchen on them ( say for instance all the food storage containers) them as I need them , bring them back to the kitchen, after 4 months give away what hasn’t been brought back!
I absolutely love your videos, especially with your mom. She is a hoot! Next time she declutters that platter/China cabinet I bet she will get rid of the clear heavy serving dishes she got from Sweden!
I love it. I age with your Mom so every time I watch a video with her I get motivated to do a bit more. Absolutely with the “program” and have been spreading the word with my contemporary friends
When I say , as I have in previous videos,I LOVE YOUR MOM.... You have reeled her in!😊 I love her bedroom set. It is exactly the one i want.Quality wood is in. Shannon, the art work was caaaaute
❤ your interaction with your mom. It is great that your helping your mom & dad declutter. I'm like your mom, where I have to declutter in layers. This especially for just in case items.
It's always so fun when you and your Mom get together to declutter, I am inspired! We basically did a version of Swedish Death cleaning when my Dad moved from our family home into an apartment. Everyone from the family picked items they wanted from my parents things, Dad made several visits for clothes and other items he remembered, then we hired an Estate agent to sort through what was left and it was sold (except for years of paperwork I am going through at my house.)
Wow Kathy, you downsized a lot! I feel motivated to look in my cabinets again. I l laughed out loud when I thought, “I have that same carafe!” I use it now and then, so I’m hanging onto it for a bit. Ha ha ha. Thank you for sharing your Swedish death cleaning journey. I love seeing the two of you together.❤
Another great video with your mom! I’m of the same era as your mom and still have so much of the platters, crystal, etc. that I inherited. Watching her gives me motivation to work some more on decluttering all the “stuff” that I haven’t used and will not be using. I will keep some of the things that are special to me.
'Love the decluttering videos you do with your mom.I'm around her age. I've done the Swedish death cleaning and am now a cozy minimalist, I so relate to your mom. I loved giving dinner parties and though my fantasy self misses entertaining that way a little, I don't want to do it anymore. Death cleaning seems to happen in layers. My first layer was big. Subsequent layers "fall off" by and by, It seems that decluttering works a kind of muscle that becomes stronger with practice. It's so freeing to live without all the stuff! How many times have we said we wish we could find someone who wants the china, the soup tureen, etc. ?
I love watching your videos as the relationship you have with your Mum is so like the one I had with mine before she passed away. The decluttering of the china prompts me to clean out my corner cupboard that is a Tetris of stuff that I don’t use.
I need you both to come to my house and help me death clean! I’ve been trying to get cleaned out and as I watch I’m so proud of you mom! I saw stuff and thought “no, Germany, keep that!” And the China! Keep that! I too have a coffee carafe. And China. Never use them! Yet I keep them! Cause I know I could never replace! Please take the show on the road and help me weed out!
One of the times I had to help my mother downsize she had twenty platters and never cooked but she was adamant she wanted everything. Her new kitchen was much smaller so I told her to pick her favorite 5. Boy she was mad. After the move she never used the 5.
Hi Ladies, great video! My husband and I have been decluttering ,he is gonna retire next year,so we thought it was good time to start. Thank you for a great video with your Mom❤🎉
Hi Shannon so true what you say about parents decluttering their homes so that there children are not left with decluttering their parents belongings. I started watching a TH-camr called "A Beautiful Mess." This lady inherited her mom's house after her mom, stepdad, and other family members passed away. This poor lady was stuck with decluttering her mother's belongings along with her other family members belongings. So the lady had to hire the TH-camr (A Beautiful Mess) to help her organize and declutter her family's belongings. My oh my, her mother had so so many clothes especially leggings. It was too much for one person to do. That's why it is a good idea to do Swedish Death Cleaning and get rid of the stuff that you no longer need or use. This way your family or one adult child is not left with a enormous job of getting rid of everything that is in a house.

Your mother is a changed woman! I’m shocked!! Her decluttering muscles are on fire 🔥
Some of My favorite videos from any creator are the ones with you and your mom. So honest and casual. Love your relationship
Her mom has lots of personality and the camera loves her 😊
I just love your Mom! I always have a good laugh when she is in your videos 😂
Your mom is great. She is thinking clearly and knows the importance of the present.
My Mom & I are in week 5 of de-cluttering her basement. One more week should finish it. Thank Goodness! An upcoming waterproofing installation has forced us to clear it out. Félicitations et surtout bonne continuation pour le désencombrement 👍🏻
🌸🌸🌸
Well done!
You’re mom laying on the floor “this is how I declutter.”
I love her! ❤️
Your mom is my favorite. I can’t resist watching a video with her in it. She’s so fun!
You do all this together and it may seem like a chore to someone or something stressful ..... but you are actually having fun, spending time together and make new memories .... I love it 😊
Yes! Thank you!
I received multiple glass serving trays as wedding gifts 32 years ago. I gradually decluttered down to two. Our daughter got married this summer and I forgot to use those trays. I donated them last week!
I think this happens to all of us! We save things and hope to use them, and then it never happens. =)
I recently watched a minimal mom video.
Her suggestion was to write the date on paper and store with the item, if you are unsure if you want to let it go.
If it is used, remove the date.
If it isn't, when you go back to it, you will know how long it has been unused.
Such a great suggestion. 😊
Your mom looks fabulous. I've loved this series.
It’s so interesting to see her go back over things she had decided to keep and let go of more. I think we learn to trust our decisions and realize that we rarely regret letting go of things. I can hardly remember most of the things I’ve passed on to others.

I love that you’re inspired to make another sweep!
Your mom inspires me so much, just popped up to the loft and went through glassware left to me. Most can go, feels so good 😊
Your mom is hysterical! (I think we’re almost the same age) She is so relatable to me! 🩷
Shannon, I just love when Kathy is on the video's, you too always make me laugh.Keep up all the good work decluttering.
Loved this video with you two together. Kathy, I am at your stage in my life. Kathy, You're always so fun & you inspire me. Thank you for being willing to help us "older-ish" folks out & teach us a few things. 😊
Your mom has developed a very strong muscle to declutter 💪 She has a great personality 💕
Another fabulous declutter Kathy and Shannon!❤
I can’t believe how much more your Mom let go! I love when the two of you work together ❣️🎄🎁

This video is such a great example of how each time we go through our items we are able to let go of more and more.
Mom has gotten serious! It’s so hard to let go of China, glassware etc. I love watching the 2 of you together.
Gosh, this is impressive. Kathy, you are really on your way to a totally decluttered home. Good for you girls--I just love watching you together!!
Good video! You and your mom decluttering have inspired me to declutter more and more stuff.

Oh yay! Swedish death cleaning with your mom!! These are my favorite. ❤️
I am a tad older than your beautiful Mom. But I can so relate to her inventory. I also get tough after seeing you work together and just let it go. Thank you both so much.
Another reason to get rid of old china is that the paint trim often has LEAD in it. And, they often are not dishwasher safe.
I love your Mom's smile. She looks so proud. You two are my favorite TH-camrs. Not sure that's a word! 😊
I’m so glad you enjoy our videos! 😊
Love love love these “mom” videos. Such a joy, I really needed a happy spot today!

The irony of keeping the platters from Sweden as you do Swedish death cleaning. 😂 Love your content and how you work together.
So Inspiring. I’m on my own massive declutterring journey and it’s so freeing to have less stuff.
I love when you declutter with Kathy! She’s so much fun!
Your mum gets off the floor easier than I do😂I'm 45!
Love this video, mum is so onboard!!
I need to do this with my mum....she may agree one day!

Your mom's hair color is so pretty. She is always so funny. I love watching her in you videos.
I identified very much with your emotional processes in letting go. It is fun to entertain but also stressful !
Your mom did awesome! I love the videos of you two, you both crack me up 😂 my family was wondering why I was laughing so much 😆
Hugs
Always happy to see you and your mom at work!
Just had a decluttering crew finish up with my apartment. We did exactly the same thing as you are showing here with your mom. I feel so much better!
That’s awesome!
Such a great video! Kathy, I love your method of going through areas of your home multiple times. That helps me to let things go as well. Shannon, you are such a great assistant! You ask really good questions and don't push to get rid of things. I need to watch this again before I help family members declutter 😀
Thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful.
It’s so lovely to watch you work through these things together! Really reminds me of sunny afternoons with my mom ❤❤❤
I love watching Kathy's process as she declutters; she's so funny! And delightful. ♥♥♥
Love seeing you and Mom decluttering together!
That was quite the purge, especially the china and sentimental pieces. Nicely done!
I have a small house that feels so much better with less stuff as I declutter! Let's keep at it!
Fun vlog with your mum.. she has become a boss when decluttering now! She has come so far!
Thank you! She is really good at decluttering now =)
I'm a hoarder.
Great plan!
Sell your painting online! I like it I’m sure I’m not alone!
You and Kathy are so encouraging! Love you both!❤
When you declutter, i would consider putting a small to sell box by the place u regularly sit. Itll encourage u to sell it sooner.
I really love the way you dress, Shannon. Have you ever thought about picking out some clothes for your Mom? I'd like to see that video!
I have that carafe also! In fact, I think I have two do them😂 Time to dig deeper into my cupboardr!🤗
Another great video with your mom! I’m of the same era as your mom and still have so much of the platters, crystal, etc. that I inherited. Watching her gives me motivation to work some more on decluttering all the “stuff” that I haven’t used and will not be using. I will keep some of the things that are special to me.
I am so glad you found this video helpful! It's never too late to declutter.
Great job Kathy! 😊
Your mom is my generation and I just love her!!
I love that you are curating and not just tossing stuff. Are the mystery glasses highball??
Well done Kathy, you got rid of so much 👏 🙌😊
Talent abounds in your households! Another fabulous video.
That is awesome!
I agree! It's really important to think about those who will be left behind.
I watch it also. Dorothy’s house. Mercy, too much stuff!
Wow!, Kathy wonderful clear-out. You and Shannon are so fun to watch.
Cheers
After reading some comments I think we need to start a Kathy fan club or even better a meet up! Just a thought Shannon lol
Haha! She has some super fans =)
I am in for that fan club!
