There are two main motivations for me when I declutter. I like having less stuff to manage and I don’t want to leave a lot for my kids to deal with years from now. It takes time to sort things and I find I need to revisit them more than once, but I’m making progress. Good luck everyone! 🍀😊🧡🐦
You are not pushy or passive aggressive. You are encouraging. You and your mom always seem respectful of each other. You both are making memories while going through her items. Thank you for this video, it helps 😊
Shannon, You paint the perfect example in showing a mix of encouragement, thoughtfulness and practicality. All the while, doing it with wisdom, grace and love (toward your Mom & others). We are blessed to have your example & dedication!
I’m in the midst of my fall decluttering. I do this with the changing seasons 4 times a year. I do continually remove unwanted items all the time but these seasonal times I go deeper. As I have gotten older I do less and less seasonal decorating so those are the items that are definitely dwindling down. Thanks for another great informative video. Have a great day 🩷
Your mom is so funny! My 70 year old minimalist mom pushes me to get rid of my stuff and I like her tough love attitude because it has helped me declutter crap I don’t need. Some of us need that extra push!
I think the dynamic between you and your mom is in a nice equilibrium. You aren’t pushing her. If what the critics say were true, the videos with your mom wouldn’t be the most popular videos you publish.
I also think that the reason for less stuff getting purged in a session than people expect is because there actually is a human limit to comfortable capacity for change. Engineering managers know this: humans can only handle 5% innovation at once. Any more change than this seems like a new and unfamiliar product, rather than an upgrade. I think the 5% limit applies to decluttering; any more than this feels like a jarring loss or some kind of discomfort.
Hi. New viewer here. My bff recommends Trashie for recycling clothes too worn for donating. You buy a bag from them, send them the clothes, and you get gift cards in return. Inspirational people trying to save the planet! 🌻
Agree with no distraction buy 10min mini decluttering ... but if I have a bigger area where I plan am hour or more.. i like a film on to make it more enjoyable! Eg 1x yr i do my under the stairs cupboard.. always at the end of November when i need to get to the Christmas tree and Advent Decor out (which are in the back). then I declutter, clean, and "tweek" organise the stuff in there at the same time. Then it is clean and ready to put the tree back after Christmas.
Decluttering for me has been a life long process. There are things that I am not ready to give away even if I am not using something or just not liking it. But little by little after watching decluttering or minimalist videos, I am often inspired and wonder why I keep it for so long! I don't think there is one way to declutter because we each have a different amount of stuff and often different areas often requires a different approach. Shannon gave a lot of great suggestions and I now inspired to do a little more intensive decluttering. I donate a lot to charities and so they give me a tax form so I have been able to make some of the money back on things I bought that are in good condition or brand new.
I did a big clean out of my car (after about 5 years), and thought of you a few times when I was looking at items - and I threw them out (old-school maps of the city, stuff in the center console, etc.) Watching decluttering videos does help you see "things" in a new way.
I love that your son is involved with the clean up of his toys and drawers and room. So many moms in other videos do the kids' clean up for them, on top of all the other stuff they have to do, and the kids don't learn to do this for themselves. It's a lifestyle skill -- well done!
Coming from an only child .... Working with your mom and helping her to downsize is only a blessing for the both of you ❤ You're spending time together ❤ And saving you time in doing it yourself later ❤
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 this is a brilliant video dear lady 🥰🇦🇺. And anyone watching need's to know this WORKS! I unfortunately did have my house the wrong way, until I discovered many of your hints. Now I'm organised and can enjoy the results of the tasks!🏆
Thank you! At first I thought that ” oh no, a compilation video”, but this was made with such a talent and with a clear point that it was easy to watch.
I have decluttered the last 4 years, there is nothing else to declutter. 😊 Watching all your videos with your mom was so much fun, but horrifying at the same time. 😮 I am now an essentialist, never will be a minimalist with all the out of print books.
Good ideas and tips. I wish I had a huge garage like yours. I'm sure I would be clutterfree too if I had this storage space. It's harder when you haven't got a space like this to put stuff away.
Thank you so much for this advise. I like what you said declutter first then organize. I tend to go from room to room and I get crazy! I hope you and your family have a wonderful week! ❤🤗
Hmmmm in my opinion, if people think that you are passive aggressive when helping your Mom declutter, I feel that comment says more about the commenter than you. I would happily accept your decluttering help any day!
Hi ! Thank you for this video 😁 I don’t think that you are pushy with you’re mom i think that asking a question on an item is a good motivation to get the motion going
I think my problem in my basement has been that I try to declutter and organize at the same time. But- I’m not sure how to stop this. I do the rest of the house perfectly, but the basement is a shambles. lol
@shannontorrens1 Where did you find those cute dresses? For example, the red/blue flowers (13:23) and the blue/white (17:47) are super cute. I’m looking for comfy, non-restrictive and stylish alternatives to capri-length leggings.
Thank you! Here is the link to my Amazon clothing section. This is where I found the dresses I wear =) www.amazon.com/shop/shannontorrens/list/19EDLCLVW9H6Z?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_list_d
Poorer people are more minimal. Rich middle class people simply have TOO much stuff. Growing up, my family never had a cake stand let alone dessert forks, Xmas dishes and mugs , why? 😊 I still don’t own any of them.
I see subtitles. You just have to activate it yourself not her, as she said click cc beside the settings and you have to do that each video you watch as it doesn't start on after video ends
@@shannontorrens1 thank you Shannon, the subtitles have just appeared. I always watch your videos and I enjoy them so much, I learn with them and I improve my life. Thank you for all your advices.

I go through my entire house 4 times a year. Basically when the seasons change. I still just keep eliminating stuff. The joy of downsizing 🧘🏻♀️

Incredible job! The transformation is so satisfying! 👏 As a fellow declutterer, I know how much effort goes into it-well done! 💪

Ths is the best declutter vid ever fr
As usual, excellent advice for those decluttering newbies. I always enjoys seeing your beautiful mother with her great sense of humor ❤️🍁🎃
I'm starting to declutter my photos on my wall as ( I hate dusting) also I feel just having a few photos hung up is better

Your channel is the best! Great editing. I can watch you over and over. Every night I listen to the video compilations with you and your our mom.
I keep a bag for donate clothes/linens and a box for knick knacks etc going at all times. My goal is to fill them and donate monthly.
Great tips!
Thank you !!
All I can say . Another great video.

Good post, but it’s too long for me…I want to take a break and declutter something 😉…so will come back later to finish watching it. ❤
That's awesome! I hope you get some decluttering done. 😊
That's exactly the effect that decluttering videos have on me! The minute I put them on I get itchy feet. Great motivator!

I put mine in reusable shopping bag put like things in one bag then take to where it belongs
We have a place we can take clothes in really bad condition and they recycle it.

Please, we need translator, subtitles, as the others videos. Thanks.
Hello, TH-cam does this automatically. It should be on there. I have it marked for there to be translation and CC. Maybe it will just take some time.

Your house is not a house, it is just a mini shopping mall. you need to shred off 99% of it to make it a true home.
