@@Aliens1337 that's true, but Ky has a cool sword. and he goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRR so I like him. Sol on the other hand, gives me nightmares +R sol has scared me.
Honestly, don’t be afraid of Zato. Even though Eddie might be a bit difficult to control, he has big, simple buttons that make him a great beginner character.
I disagree. Zato's pokes have long recovery, as well as extended hurtboxes. You can't mash with him like you do with Ram, Ky or Sol for example. He also has 2 anti-airs with specific utilities instead of one. And most importantly you can't do much with his normals alone. It's not Venom. Eddie usage is required from the start. And by usage I mean something more than spamming Leap. Even noobs will eventually learn to block it.
@@GuiltyGearOnline Eh, maybe they just seemed to click with me personally. Another note is that in Strive Eddie can be controlled with qcf inputs instead of negative edge if that is more intuitive.
@@happycamperds9917 You will be severely limited by using qcf. Negative edge lets you perform Eddie moves at any moment. Even when Zato flies or performs 2H in neutral for example. Qcf input won't let you do that. It's main usage is to cancel Eddie moves into each other.
I picked May just cause she’s really cute and honestly the Dolphins are a nice incidental bonus. But I also like playing Ky and his nice simplicity. He feels really nice to play as
Originally, I was going to main Nagoriyuki, but because I'm a total beginner, I'm looking at Giovanna. I want to be comfortable with the game first before I go to the advanced characters like Nago. Thanks for the guide and I'm looking forward to playing Strive.
The nice thing about this particular guilty gear is that it was geared mainly towards beginners pun intended. So if nagoriyuki is the character you want the main go ahead and play them!!
Nah man gio has a more complicated gameplan than nago so dont worry about that if nago looks cool then use him guaranteed you love it and not think hes that crazy hes blood gauge is just intimidating and it's really not
My main choosing process: wow that Leo guy has a nice song, and I do enjoy his style oooh I do enjoy how this axl plays SHE FIGHTS WITH A DOG?!! and now here am I trying to learn these three
Ah, you see. . . How I chose was: Zato looks cool. Eddie do be lookin' like a cutie. Faust seems so wacky and fun! ;-; I can't choose a main, so I have to play both now
I don't play traditional fighting games much, but the characters in this game seem really enjoyable. Great explanations here, I think I'm most interested in Axel Low.
Zato was so fun during the beta. His negative edge stuff can allow for some pretty crazy combos and setups. I can't wait to really be able to sit down and lab his stuff without any time restraints.
Literally didn't even see any other character gameplay but May, Nagoriyuki and Potemkin and decided I would go with big funny mech man. Even just 2 hours in against a friend just as incompetent than I, taking the entire health bar with a couple moves is a playstyle that's clicked with me.
This definitely convinced me to get this game when it drops. It’s gonna be my first guilty gear. I’ve been thinking about it for the past year because I love the art style, but I’m committing to it this Friday. May, Giovanna, Ramlethal Valentine, and Anji Mito look very interesting.
I'm in the same boat! I had a friend show me GG Accent Core and I didn't vibe with it. This game, as I've followed it, has really caught my eye visually speaking. Then I watched people play more and more of it and I had to buy it the launch day :D Chipp, Ky, Sol, May, and Ram for me :D
I really like your style of description, super accessible. Normally I'm not big in Arc System games or other air dasher type games that revolve around the insane combos but I'm tempted to give Strive a try now.
Same animation style as Dragon Ball FighterZ, mostly since it was made by the same company. Funnily enough, I found out that it's not hand drawn animations for the characters. It's 3D modeling. Here's a cool video about the topic. Really interesting stuff. You don't gotta watch it, since it's some random link in a comment, which is kinda sketchy, but like. . . I'll leave it here and hope you trust that I'm just some rando who wants to share some cool knowledge. Anyway, have a wonderful day! th-cam.com/video/kZsboyfs-L4/w-d-xo.html
Take this fucking sub man, this is quality content. I've learned I care more about how a character plays than how a character looks due to Tekken 7 and SFV, and you laid out every character so well.
Excellent video!! Gives a great idea of each character's VERY unique playstyle. However, as a Faust main, I think you shouldn't have forgotten to mention his whirpool move, since it's a pretty important tool.
Great video! This definitely helps me in some matchups. I was Nago and this is the first Guilty Gear game that I have actually tried to learn. So far so good on Floor 9!
I died of laughter when you described Potempkin as "He's slow, doesn't move around so good". Sounded like you were describing a barn animal or something😂😂😂
Can't wait to have proper lab time with this game. I exclusively played Faust in both betas since there was a limited time frame and he's been my main since GGX but even then I feel like I barely scratched the surface with him. But I also wanna mess around with everyone else and just.... AAAARGH, there's not enough hours in the day for me to give this game the attention it deserves.
I like big damage and I like big swings from big and cool characters. So I'll definetly try to main nagoryuki and/or potempkin :) Also this video is incredible if you just wanna learn the basic gameplan for each character, huge props

The only character choice I see is: do you want to be the Buster? or the Busted? Loving the content! Looking forward to every video you make for Strive (and VF5, if you happen to sneak a few in there :P)
Guilty Gear Strive is one of the first fighting games I've played, and every single character seems so unique. Last fighting game I played was Street Fighter 5. I enjoyed it, but it was hard to get into. Strive, however, has me hooked from the start. I know absolutely nothing about this series, but picking up Strive was easy. As soon as I tried a few characters, I settled on Giovanna (Your video is certainly accurate about her being beginner friendly) She is super fun to use. Very helpful video. Has me more interested in trying the other characters now.
ive never played guilty gear and zato appeals to me the most hoping to learn the game while i play him, im also new to fighting games jumping into fighterz everyone told me dont play nappa because of how hard he is and it did take months but when i learned him i learned the game at a different level and i became a better player hoping the same here. Remember dont choose your character based on tier list or difficulty pick them if they look cool or is fun to you. So for me hoping to learn the game with zato, giovanna and ramlethal. Good luck everyone
so far i love ramlethal, potemkin, and i'm trying to decide on a third. i originally wanted to do leo cause he seems cool af and i am a leo but apparently everyone hates him? (people also say ramlethal is "easy" but people dont seem to really hate her like they hate some other characters).
Looking forward to starting a new fighting game journey. Your channel guided me through my first "real" fighting game in DBFZ so thanks for your guides over the years and can't wait to learn more!
I've mained Eddie/Zato-1 since the earlier games because he's good long range and close range especially if you know how to abuse Eddie's mobile shadows. Seeing how he's 2 characters now, but the attacks being press and let go, i think he'll be amazing in the right hands.
Ironically...In Rev2 I was learning I No lmaoo. I feel I No is one of those characters that falls into the list of Sol Ky and possibly Millia as a character you must find the time to learn not just to play her but to learn other unique mechanics other characters may have similar
This helped a lot. Haven't played many fighting games since the days of the first Blazblue, haven't played GG since the PS2. Gonna check out Nagoriyuki, Axel and Faust first I think! Nagoriyuki's little bit of blood gauge management seems exciting to me and has a good vampire feel

@@frozone1669 I think Ky is easier than Gio if you are familiar with other fighting games. He has tools for everything. Gio's moveset is fairly limited and you have to understand spacing to do well. Gio is basically the character if you never played fighting games before and just wanna press buttons.
she is but there's a lot of stuff with her that advanced players can use as well
low skill floor, high skill ceiling
@@Aliens1337 that's true, but Ky has a cool sword. and he goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRR so I like him. Sol on the other hand, gives me nightmares +R sol has scared me.
strive is my first GG game ever, i picked zato bc he's hot and ended up being a natural at his handling lol
Is it hard?
So you were looking for a hot character, and you DIDN'T pick Potemkin?
Honestly, his edgy design is 100% why I'd play Eddie. Oh, Zato seems cool too, but like. . . Eddie is lookin' kinda cute. . .
@@silverpower6912 not really tbh. Like maybe learn somebody simpler first but he was the second character I learned and I learned it pretty easily
I love how the mechanics of all characters make actual sense, the amount of detail in this game is insane 🔥
So Faust is the answer to the question: "What if Voldo was weirder?"
- We need a character that's weird af, like Voldo on steroids.
- Hold my afro.
Nah man, voldo makes my eyes hurt, Faust is nothing compared to him, *and that's good*.
Honestly, don’t be afraid of Zato. Even though Eddie might be a bit difficult to control, he has big, simple buttons that make him a great beginner character.
Can you explain a bit more? You have my interest.
@@GuiltyGearOnline Figured he was just a noob upvoted by noobs. Ty for explaining 🙏.
I picked May just cause she’s really cute and honestly the Dolphins are a nice incidental bonus. But I also like playing Ky and his nice simplicity. He feels really nice to play as
Im planning on doing the same. I also want to try ino and anji
Dude thanks for this quick breakdown of all the characters. I really appreciate it as a new Guilty Gear player.
I came in knowing i was gonna main ramlethal and left wanting to main everyone. Great vid dude
Nah man gio has a more complicated gameplan than nago so dont worry about that if nago looks cool then use him guaranteed you love it and not think hes that crazy hes blood gauge is just intimidating and it's really not
Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it. I'll explore different characters as well.
@@jaymagedon4975 that's the one aspect of Nagoriyuki that scares me.
@@shadowyomi7235 Your comment is very encouraging. I'll try Nago then.
My main choosing process:
wow that Leo guy has a nice song, and I do enjoy his style
oooh I do enjoy how this axl plays
SHE FIGHTS WITH A DOG?!!
and now here am I trying to learn these three
Ah, you see. . . How I chose was:
Zato looks cool. Eddie do be lookin' like a cutie.
Faust seems so wacky and fun!
;-; I can't choose a main, so I have to play both now
One note about Gio's "spiral arrow" thing:
It smashes through all normal projectiles, no matter how many hits it has.
It has been a month now…..have you realize that Potemkin is a huge black man inside a suit yet?
Not aggressive just asking
@@imanerdcort1773 I realized it right before I read your comment, thought it was a robot/cyborg
This guide helped alot, started playing today and i have been playing asuka, took your "dont let the starts scare you off" to heart tanks
I really like your style of description, super accessible.
Normally I'm not big in Arc System games or other air dasher type games that revolve around the insane combos but I'm tempted to give Strive a try now.
Ramlethal, Millia, and Giovanna have got my eyes and my heart
This is extremely well done? It goes through the characters thoroughly and I don't see that often in character overview.
I chose Nagoriyuki just because I like the character’s design his move set etc, and I stick by my choice thru and thru.
I don’t even know what this game is, but I just watched the whole vid cuz the animation style is pretty cool

Wow I just watched the vid. It was really intresting! Thanks
Literally the reason I bought it
Basic breakdown
> Look at Roster
> Does the character yell "TOTSUGEKI"?
> No?
> Find a different character
> Yes?
> TOTSUGEKI!!
46:55 - it's been a while since I had such a good laugh. These jokes are what makes this my favorite fighting game channel on youtube.
I'm really hype for learn to play zato! Can't wait for PC release
Hit: This is the stance.
Leo: NO! THIS IS THE STANCE!
Of course you'd play a character with a magic murder bag.
I feel your pain on a spiritual level
Nice profile pic
Coming from KoF, you know I had to choose the character that had a red hand which exploded in flames.
See you on the 11th frustratingly as a PC player I still have a few days to wait.
Same, pretty annoyed, but excited nonetheless.
You’re not alone!
We're getting a PC release with rollback so a few days wait is nothing
"Btw the way, youre going to heaven" - Potemkin 2021
look who got his hands on an early access copy after all...thanks for leading us into this brand new era of hope and dreams and rollback, bossman
Yep not long after feeling sad for myself for not getting a review copy, they went and got me a review copy haha
I like big damage and I like big swings from big and cool characters.
So I'll definetly try to main nagoryuki and/or potempkin :)
Also this video is incredible if you just wanna learn the basic gameplan for each character, huge props
great video. really explained all the cast in a understandable easy way. Well done.
I dont need a guide for this because i know that i was born a Potemkin main and nothing can change that!
My kids walk around the house saying “Hellll000oooooooo” 😆 thanks for always putting out great content brotha🙏🏾
haha that's amazing, I am truly honoured!
Hellllllo and welcome!
I’ve been a fan of rooflemonger for a while but I must say I’ve been familiar with your game but I’ve not been paying close enough attention…
My man has got VIEWS!
The how to choose your main series is a legit hit…
Guilty Gear Strive - a million views
SF6 - a million views
MK1 - a million views
Shute - Darkstalkers has a 100K views.
Tekken 8 - almost half a million views.
Well done.
Definitely maining Giovanna she looks pretty straight forward and fun!! Also I hope Baiken makes her return. As always beautiful video and keep it up!!!
Giovanna design is bomb, but then again they all are
Boy do I have good news for you
I just realized something: not only is Ky the most “Ryu-like” character, he even has a V-Trigger XD
Which is completely new in this game. Even without it, he's still the most "Ryu" of the cast.
Has me more interested in trying the other characters now.
how 2 pick ur main:
step 1: listen at may's theme
step 2: look at her placement on the list
step 3: watch papa leo's replays
step 4: "choose"
Got into my first guilty gear game with strive today after trying out the game in cross play test. I liked Faust and I-No so far
Another fun thing about Millia is cornering opponents and spamming lust shaker. She's not only a good mixup but solid rushdown option.
Amazing video, Arc pay this man! This was the final nail to get me to buy this game. Glad I did
Congratulations on a million views.
ive never played guilty gear and zato appeals to me the most hoping to learn the game while i play him, im also new to fighting games jumping into fighterz everyone told me dont play nappa because of how hard he is and it did take months but when i learned him i learned the game at a different level and i became a better player hoping the same here.
I don't even play fighters, but I like to have you talking about them in the background while I do stuff
Ok I’m buying this game now. This shit looks so fun.
I've sat and watched this whole guide (great job rooflemonger as always) as a newbie to GG I've gone with Faust and he is so much fun.
Looking forward to starting a new fighting game journey. Your channel guided me through my first "real" fighting game in DBFZ so thanks for your guides over the years and can't wait to learn more!
Thank you for what you do for the FGC and its prospective players that have very little experience with a process like this. Cheers man
Happy to be of help!
I've mained Eddie/Zato-1 since the earlier games because he's good long range and close range especially if you know how to abuse Eddie's mobile shadows. Seeing how he's 2 characters now, but the attacks being press and let go, i think he'll be amazing in the right hands.
EXCELLENT Guide! I bought the deluxe version yesterday and I'm having a blast. Best fighter I've played in years.
How to pick a main:
1. Listen to all character themes
2. Now choose
millia theme and sol theme are the best for me. so many good ones tho
Ky it is
Sol, Ky, Ram, Axl, May. But def not Chipp
I heard one.
Imma be a May main.
You putting full caps and spaces on Potemkin is beatiful
Congrats on hitting the ground running with content. Looking forward to just seeing GG all over the net this upcoming week :D
Video was long AF, but totally worth it for a new comer like myself. Thanks a lot for all this :)
So from what I'm seeing, playing Nagoriyuki is like edging
This is such a great video, I'm not a beginner to GG but this explained everything in just as much depth needed.
Love the I-No part for "Ever just wish you could be Potemkin? Well now you can!"
Ironically...In Rev2 I was learning I No lmaoo. I feel I No is one of those characters that falls into the list of Sol Ky and possibly Millia as a character you must find the time to learn not just to play her but to learn other unique mechanics other characters may have similar
Damm nagoriyuki looks so interesting
This helped a lot. Haven't played many fighting games since the days of the first Blazblue, haven't played GG since the PS2. Gonna check out Nagoriyuki, Axel and Faust first I think! Nagoriyuki's little bit of blood gauge management seems exciting to me and has a good vampire feel
Picking Nagoriyuki as my main made me realise i have self-sabotage problems. Thanks!!
Gonna play Faust bc he has an afro command grab. Who else would I play???
The comments in this video keep tugging me between Faust and Eddie. . . ;-;
It's so hard to choose
