Miss those long hauls listening to WWL New Orleans. And the Grand Old Opry. Didn't know it at the time. The day would come when today's generation. Wouldn't know what America . Stood for.
Talent...100% pure, honest to God-given talent!!! Nothing today even comes close. I never knew Paul Warren could play decent claw hammer banjo. Every member of the band is Hall of Fame caliber.
will never be anything like them again. I cherish the memories I have of getting to be with them on many occasions. they were all the nicest people as well.
This brings back such good memories for me. When I was a young boy, my dad and I would watch "Flatt and Scruggs Grand Ol' Opry Show" every Saturday afternoon. My dad loved Bluegrass music and he past that love on to me. Thanks for the post.
Boy did I miss the boat on this kind of music. I was busy listening to 60's rock. 60's rock was great but so was this. Glad that I , finally, discovered it.
Hop on in the Way Back machine fer one fine bit of top notch pickin and a grinnin. Worth the half hour of relaxin from this fast pace world we now live in.
@@thebountyhunter2783 ...I played guitar for Paul Warren one time in bucksnort.at a family reunion for howdy.forrestor..Paul was a great fiddle player. Randy.jones
+john allison John you need to listen to The Earls of Leicester (pronounced Lester). Its a band made up of some of todays best bluegrass musicians including Jerry Douglas. They play nothing but Flatt and Scruggs songs in the original style. They like to say they arent a cover band but a tribute band paying respect to one of the greatest band of musicians ever assembled
john allison Id be interested to know what you think of "Earls of L" John. I hope that I helped spread the word. Its nice to see that roots music is making a strong comeback, especially among younger people. It never hurts to shut off all the electronic technology and embrace some of the older more natural things in life does it.
Well I am of the older generation and don't think much of the new country and as for all that electronic stuff I am still old school on most of it. Haven't listened to the earls yet but will check them out. Thanks for the message.
I loved watching the Flatt & Scruggs TV show when I was in high school, living on the old family farm with my folks in South Carolina in the mid-60s. Incredible show, with great guests like Doc Watson and Maybelle Carter, and the always impeccable playing of all the band members. Earl was being influenced by his sons at the time to play more current material, which resulted in occasional performances of tunes like Bob Dylan's "Down in the Flood"! I have a soft spot in my heart for the kind of downhome cooking well represented by the commercials here too. Great stuff, and I wish there was something more like it being aired today -- especially reruns of this show!
Jake Tullock- Bass, Tenor. Josh Graves- Dobro and Bass, Had A Instrumental Voice. Lester Flatt- Guitar, Tenor. Earl Scruggs- Banjo and Guitar, Baritone. Paul Warren- Fiddle, Bass. Curly Seckler- Mandolin and Guitar, Tenor Frank (Hylo) Brown- Guitar, Baritone and Assisted Tenor Sometimes.
I'm getting off on that first lick on "Cabin Home On The Hill" by Josh on the dobro at 06:53. That's country blues right there. Puttin' the blues in bluegrass for sure.
Sean o'connor. His name is Curly Seclur. He was in the band for years because of his voice-high harmony. Hardly ever played anything but "chuck, chuck" on the mand. One of the greatest old time moaners.
Look closely and it really looks like Earl Scruggs loaned out his own personal banjo to Paul Warren to claw hammer on. Wow! What a sportin' thing to do.
Do they continue the tradition of/at the "Grand Ole Opry? 🔺Always fresh, always positive, always inspiring, a Standard/Classics ... Timeless "the Orange Blossom Special" ✨ 🍊 🏵️🦋 + "Foggy Mountain Breakdown"
At 24:00 Lester gives a request for recipes using Pet Milk. I sent one. Anybody reading this, please do the same. I haven't received a reply yet. It's been a week. Send it!🎼

That 'Carroll County Blues' number was pretty hot, too.

Bill Monroe didn't allow many mandolin solos, he was really against Flatt and Scruggs on the Opry.

+Lockemeister - Earl kept two banjos ready for backups in case a string broke on air. Also his banjos were tuned differently for different numbers.
