I love watching the old performances. They play such intricate music, singing too, live no less without the facial contortions and constipated grimaces of performers now. I can't stand watching them while poker faced Scruggs plays the 5 string is a wonder to watch.
Flatt scruggs were the realest people I think I've ever known thay were so good or should I say that they were great loved thair music so much and I still do and I'm 68 years old and never get enough of them just saying
Amazing all the fantastic talents I am observing. I am 68 years old and I love the way they perform but especially the tunes. Wish they could continue to record. Miss all of them.
Jake Tullock- Bass, Tenor. Josh Graves- Dobro and Bass, Had A Instrumental Voice. Lester Flatt- Guitar, Tenor, Baritone. Earl Scruggs- Banjo and Guitar, Baritone. Paul Warren- Fiddle, Bass. Curly Seckler- Mandolin and Guitar, Tenor Frank (Hylo) Brown- Guitar, Baritone and Assisted Tenor Sometimes.
Don't think you can call Lester Flatt a tenor singer. He could sing tenor and an exceptional bariitone. For that matter could carry any part he choosed to. A voice that transends time and defies labels.
What a great miracle: me getting to hear these guys after all this time -- I never had any idea they were such awesome musicians...Thank you from my heart!
I saw these guys in New Haven,Ct in the early 60s,I was about 6 ,it was sold out we were in the rafters but it was good, and I'm glad I was there, with my Dad and his lead guitar player,Dan Bushey
I love to watch them every chance I get. My favorite times is when they are on The Beverly Hillbillies. Why can't they make T.V. shows like that now? Hee Haw too.
Alright! That’s enough outta you Jake! Too much much! Love these guys thanks to my Dear Mother who got me to Garner Bluegrass Festival to actually see Merle and Doc, but I missed Lester, and what a cut up he was and still is!
I grew up listening to this fantastic music and I have never heard them He or a She play any better! than this! I only wish I could play like this.. There is no need to say more CASE CLOSED
Someone once said that Earl had it made because every song he ever recorded was the definitive version of that song because HE was the one playing it. Any questions?
At 10:18, they Launch into a deceptively fast version of the song that set the bar, and established the benchmark for this tune for all future bands. You cannot do better than this. You can only hope to come close to it. The average non-musician viewer has no comprehension of how difficult it is instrumentally to play this fast first of all, then secondly, at this breakneck speed to maintain the tempo from the first note to the last note without ever wavering so much as a millisecond, and finally, to keep everyone plucking or bowing their respective strings in absolute EXACT synchrony (called being “tight” in band parlance) right till the final note. Most bands will definitely be at the top end of their performance capability performing this song at this rate, and these legends aren’t even breaking a sweat. In fact, they make it appear so effortless that the actual speed of the song gets lost in its Lester Flatt’s vocal smoothness and you might have to look twice to recognize what titanic musicianship you are witnessing.
Yup, tv cameras of mid sixties did a weird mono chromatic reflection in black and white...You can see same during JFK, Johnson era...Color tv cameras came in shortly after, 1965.....Easy to date stuff!
It brings back so many memories. For me. A different time. A better time. Happy times
Iam 50. I used to watch my dad and his friends play there music all time when I was a kid that's how I learn to play
I grew up in the 60's listening to Flat and Scruggs. My dads favorite. Mine too. Wish I could go back to them days. I miss them days so much.
Don't we all 😔
Probably the best music ever played hear how pure it sounds ❤
Up until these shows showed up on YT I had only my columbia LPs to hear this band as a kid in the 60's.

65 years later...and they're STILL better than anyone else!
Yes, They are still going strong. Sorry we lost Bill Monroe though.
@@dabneyoffermein595 Me too--I just loved Monroe. I got to see him live a number of times since 1969!

All are in Heaven now playing for the Lord 🙏
Love Flatt and Scruggs, and their band. This is my kind of music.
I hadn't listened to bluegrass for some time. Lester Flatt sure has got a unique and pleasant voice . This music really picks up my spirits .
Hilo is a unique bluegrass star. His voice has not been duplicated even to this day. Annetteparker777@gmail.com

57 minutes is too short for this. I absolutely love this.
So much beauty in one single video
I love to watch them every chance I get. My favorite times is when they are on The Beverly Hillbillies. Why can't they make T.V. shows like that now? Hee Haw too.
You bet!! Granny always made them sing for supper!!❤️🥰
The way they changed everything to cater to Hollywood. They did away with good tv shows
The WOKE crowd ruined everything from Hollywood to Elections. Sigh.
Hee Haw. I miss that show 😔
Grand is the only word to describe.
Lester flatt was such a cool dude ,back in the day ,love his voice and laid back style ,can pick a guitar too..

Brilliant! Flatt and Scruggs with Bill Monroe and this video are all you need.
I don't think Mr. Bill would have anything to do with it, actually. Considering he didn't speak to either of them for decades after they left.
Include the Stanley brothers and Id agree .
Them boys knew how to wear hats.
What skill wow
Great!!!😀😃😄😎

centerice 100%
Three verses, three choruses, three breaks, works out to exactly 160 BPM alla breve. I guess Lester didn't like paying any overtime.
You said it all.
They are slick wow
thats some mighty fine picken and grinnin right there
Roll call......here I am again

Scruggs is a genius!
I believe the Guiness book of world records declared Scruggs to be the "most imitated musician in the whole world"....and I agree!
@@Pickinbuddy Great observation!
