I don't think that I would use either of those, maybe I would give the repco one a go if I was stuck I guess.
You should have cut open a Ryco filter as well as a base guideline because they are the go-to filter of choice.
Also I do think that the black junk in the Repco one came from your cutting, because it was splinters of cracked paint if you ask me.

I bought an SCA for my Toyota Wish and it cost about $20 NZ. All other equivalents were somewhat dearer. I wonder whether one really gains any real advantage by using more expensive brands. I'd rather use the money saved buying petrol and good motor oil. Basic extended oil change and filter seem to have served me well in 54 yrs of motoring. .

Repco oil filters are made by Sakura in Indonesia and i believe SCA is made by Ryco( GUD).

The Repco filter has the same base plate as the filters branded as AC Delco, Sakura and possibly Silverline. I assume they are made in the same factory. The Supcheap Auto filters have the same design as the Westfil Cooper, for the Z9 equivalent, at least.

Repco, Ryco or Supercheap there's not much choice unless you can wait to order something else online. I've been using Ryco for 40 years until I took of a z418 from a petrol hilux and the filter was empty bone dry, the sump was full so it wasn't an oil issue. Nothing made in Oz any more so now using repco.

Would any of the two oil filters really matter if you do regular oil and filter change every 10,000 kms? Thanks

I wouldn't use a repco oil filter. Cut open a used repco filter not long ago and it showed the filter media losing its shape. There were also dry glue leaking and stuck to the top and bottom of the end caps. The wesfil and hi-tec oil filter on the other hand held up really well. The wesfil had the longest filter media followed by the hi-tec. The repco oil filter had the shortest media length. The other two had silicone valve but not the repco. The repco can also rank below the other two brands in term of thickness and build quality.

Hi 1, thanks for the info, that's very interesting. I have also done videos on wesfil and hitec oils filters. Unfortunately the media on the wesfil just isn't up to scratch so I would take a repco over that but the hi tec oils isn't to bad!

@@departmentoffiltration6021 Maybe I got unlucky on that one time but I still wouldn't use repco again. They also used to sell a lot of silverline oil filters. Must be one of their home brand. You can still buy them on clearance at some stores for under $2. Wouldn't trust those ones either. Will have to stick with hi-tec for now then.

I normally use Ryco oil filters if I can get them for a good price on special, if not I use Repco as the “normal” Ryco prices are very high! As the vehicles I own have the filter mounted upside down, I don’t think the oil will drain out regardless of the anti drain back valve….. Haven’t considered SCA filters as they are usually more expensive than Repco whenever I have checked.

Sounds good Paulsi, the repco filters look fairly nice. The SCA ones are strange they always have them on the shelf but I have never known anyone that uses them.

i agree mate, repco is repco, ryco is the way to go, but they are often more expensive but better quality. -coming from someone who works at repco on weekends.

Try Mahle or MANN or Purflux, the euro competition. Purflux use a spiral element.

I just don't like Repco products. They always seem really cheaply and poorly made. SCA are a little better imo.

Repco are made by ryco so they are the same thing. I don't trust Ryco any more. The supercheap one looks better quality.

In terms or store type and brand, Repco is definitely more of an auto parts store then supercheap, they sell very minimal actual parts
