  • Art Burnout - Why Artists Fail
I have been burned out for weeks. Why is it so easy to fail at art?
    Fail fail fail. Burn out.
After weeks of experiencing burnout I decided to make this video.
Why do we fail as artists? Why do we burn out?
If you're working too hard you will eventually experience burnout in any trade.
As artists we go to school, work, and live our lives from day to day on top of having a passion for creativity and growth. It's easy to feel the stress and pressures of life and to lose our inspiration, but we can also burn out from lack of mental health, and many other factors.
Fear of failure with art, or fear of missing out on failing forward, either way we can find ourselves stuck with no way out.
    What is art burnout?
How do we overcome burnout and prevent it?

I can totally relate to what you say in the video. I am a beginner 3D artist who has 4 months of Blender experience and has just started out ZBrush to build the sci-fi armor of my dreams. When I just started learning blender, I exhausted myself out trying to build the armor with little prior experience in art in general. It was very torturous. I was holding very high expectations of myself with very little experience prior to that time. It's just painful to force yourself to achieve something you cannot achieve with your current level in this way.
I'm actually an undergrad studying Computer Science in a university, and I found that whenever I am programming or sculpting/modelling, sometimes if we are not present with what we are doing, our minds start to drift away and we eventually find ourselves lost and just not knowing what we're doing. I found that whenever I am present and am just simply aware of what I am doing, my feelings, and my mental state with no thought in mind, I am able to enjoy what I do, and usually in this state of mind I am able to produce work of quality as well.

I completely agree. It’s easy to start “Noodling” as some artists say, and lose focus and begin mindlessly creating with no intention. I think having a plan has always helped me the most. Then I am able to do research and highlight the things I don’t know how to do and seek help from others. That’s awesome that you are pursuing art/computer science as well! Thanks so much for the feedback too! Keep up the good work!! 👏👍👍

Thank you for this info. I'm in collage for this stuff. And i aspire to be as good as you are. My wife is in the same major as I and i aspire to be as good as her too! So far i have not gotten discouraged. Artists like yourself and my wife make me feel better learning and working on my art. Thank you for these videos!

Doomsday652 That’s awesome man! And remember if you ever do get discouraged, it’s okay to take a break and not force yourself. Your art will always be changing and growing over time. It just takes time and practice. Keep at it!! 👍👍
