Forward assist is mandatory for quiet loading while hunting. Use mine all the time for first round into battery.

Shame guncraft have stopped making them, sent mine off to get the mags looked at and get some other stuff sorted for them, Would you get one over a .223 straight pull?

Guncraft are still making these but they are now "to order" rather than being ready made. I have a .223 straight pull AR and really enjoy that. I wouldnt have one over the other as they are quite different in terms of what they are used for but I definitely like the Guncraft .22wmr AR and hope to see more .22wmr semi autos on the UK shooting scene!

I just bought 2 Smith and Wesson mp 15-22 I'm planning on trying to convert one to 22wmr anyone have any thoughts about this? I was going to buy a keltec cmr30 or a cz512 with ati furniture but ar platforms what I really want

That seems like it would be a lot of work. Would likely need a new barrel (due to Chamber length), cut out the reciever to make a larger ejection opening for the larger cartridge, adapt the magwell and likely the bolt and bolt catch for them both to function with a .22wmr magazine and the .22wmr is a notoriously unreliable cartridge even in purpose built rifles so I honestly think you'd end up with a rifle that jams more than the L85A1. Plus the financial cost of all the modifications on top of the cost of the rifle, why not just buy a purpose built .22wmr ar? Also if you are UK based you will need to get permission to change the calibre, have the new calibre added to your licence and may even need to have the new rifle proofed and reserialised (not sure on that though). Honestly I would just buy a purpose built .22wmr AR it will be way less hassle and likely be infinitely more reliable too.

Continuing on the previous comment, .22 WMR also runs at higher pressures so I think you would need to increase the bolt weight since it's a direct blow back. If you keep it the same weight it may not work correctly and not delay the bolt for enough time which may cause the action to blow up. Also, I'm pretty sure the .22WMR is also just barley thicker than a .22LR. I'm not at all qualified to really give you any helpful advice, just my thoughts on it.

Lovely but just way too expensive for a .22 when you can get a quality .223 for the same cost

Unfortunately, for semi-auto weapons in the UK only .22 rimfire ammo is legal :(

I'm not sure on the exact price of this rifle with add ons etc but the base rifle I believe starts at £1650. Perhaps get in touch with Blue Fieldsports
