Groove boxes are so much fun. I started out making tracks on an MC 505 and I miss that hands on, all-in-one style of working on tracks. Clearly working in a DAW environment is infinitely more flexible and a much more powerful format for sound design, but it's just not as fun IMO. I would really love to see a groove box that had tons of synth controls on it and a mixer section with sliders and mute/solo buttons for each track like the 505 had, that you could slide an iPad into. The box would have an audio interface built into it, including inputs for sampling. The app on the iPad would have multiple synthesis capabilities, something like Omnisphere and Massive/Serum combined. The controls would all be pre-mapped to the synths and sampling functions with additional touch control functionality on the app. This way you get the benefit of the big screen for visual feedback and better control of the sequencer and sample editing. There would be a 909 style step sequencer on the bottom of the unit. A pitch bender/mod lever would be nice as well. Basically a groove box that had really powerful synthesis and sampling capabilities but with that fun, hands on experience and highly portable.

Just ordered mine - I see some real advantages over my Maschine Mikro - the portability of it - just take my headphones and this and I'm good. Both of have a place, but I can see taking this on business trips with me, or hanging out at the park.

Wow man, Novation keeps pushing the limit. They're going to be a major part of music production in the future. They're not just making controllers/synths, but new ways human beings can create music. It's pretty amazing. I'd feel super lost using this thing though. Without a physical screen to see what the hell I'm doing, I'd be afraid to touch anything. 'Ctrl - Z' all over the place.
+Jonathan P 'Ctrl - Z' can be a crutch sometimes. There are quite a few of us here at Novation that believe heartily in the idea of 'happy accidents' - just touch, play, make some noise, and see where you end up. Did you check out our 'Start Something' video series on Facebook?
+NovationTV Oh no I agree completely. My workflow is an absolute mess and I obsess on pointless things that waste time and creativity. I got a launchkey earlier this year and tried using Live 9. I was blown away by how easy everything was, and how simple making a track could be. But I've used FL for 10 years and felt comfortable sticking with it. I did get that newsletter but there wasn't a link for the videos. I'll definitely check it out now though, thanks for the tip. Keep up the great work!

could this take input from a synth and loop it?
Is there a way to route one of the drum only in the jack/headphone ? I'd like to have a clic for my drummer.
Afraid not, the headphone and master out are linked. To isolate just the drum part, you would need to mute all other parts. You could connect your Circuit to a laptop via USB running the included copy of Ableton Live Lite 10 and sync playback, sending a click track to the drummer from Ableton Live Lite.
The reason this is sooooo good is because the price, i know its not cheap but still way better than some groovebox

If the Circuit can do the following it is almost exactly what I have been conceptualising in my mind for some time already: Can I put in chords via a MIDI keyboard which then take the shape of the patterns polyphonically. So if i pay a C major the pattern follows all the notes in that chord and produces major chord steps in the rhythm of the pattern. If I play , say an E minor next, it then takes all notes in that chord and repeats the pattern accordingly, etc. Ideally it would also do that within the measure, so while a pattern is already / still running.
I know about the monophonic transpose function and I have seen that the sidechain function can be driven by drum pattern 1 but yet have to find a mention of a polyphonic interaction / combination of both.
So again in slightly different words: Can it do such stuff on the fly with chord progressions that are played life. I know that sounds a bit like advanced home keyboard stuff but it it would make the Circuit an ideal tool for improvistaional composing of polyphonicly complex electronic music.

Can it control a separate midi instrument independently of its two built-in synths?
+ANYEF Not at the same time; Circuit can output 4 midi channels simultaneously.
Love my circuit but If anyone can help me with this problem that be great. When I switch on my circuit and for example play a session the sound is fine as soon as I touch anything else the sound output goes so quiet I can barely hear anything. Any suggestions?

Many many MANY computer app and program not to mention TH-cam videos to help demonstrate the basics for people who just wanna jam to some simple beats with it. For those seeking to create their own dubstep, trap songs, or electric swing etc may need heavy practice I believe.

Is there any way to get our tracks/ideas into a DAW? Say I've made a really cool idea and want to move it to Ableton. Is there any way to export the track to Ableton (or another Daw) like the Korg Electribe, or does each channel have its own MIDI channel which exports MIDI data so I can just run it into Live? It would also be really great if there was a way to export our sessions as MIDI files via USB.
Midi input - Can I plug in an external keyboard and play the synth patches, and also record them in while playing the keyboard?

And yes, you can plug an external keyboard into the midi input of Circuit and record.

How about a firmware update for Launchpad Pro to implement scales like you have on the Circuit? (I do realise there is an open source firmware so I could do it myself, but there doesn't seem to be a way to install custom "apps" alongside the official firmware so the only options are to get an official firmware update, or reverse engineer and reimplement all the features… I'm hoping for the former lest I go nuts and spend my holidays doing the latter. =)

Odd time signatures in the drums? 5/8, 7/4, etc etc? Please, someone explain this. I've been looking for an answer to this, but so far everyone says the thing is stuck on 4/4 (16 semi-quavers) and no less.
I thought you could change time signatures on ableton itself

I have one of these, and its great. But am i missing something? Sure you can make a great beat, and its 8 bars long and it sounds cool - you're practicing your rhythmic ability and what not but then what? What if i've made an awesome bass line? I can play it, but cant use it in a track im making? Is there no way to transfer the sessions onto my computer?
