I’ve had Nitto Ridge Grapplers- downright dangerous on wet pavement or rocks.
I’ve had Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx- great tire, just limited sizes available. Excellent on wet roads and rocks as well as everything else. Can ride a bit firmer is only downside.
I got Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws in 33s load range C as OEM on Gladiator Rubicon. Loved em so much when I went to 35s went Wildpeak AT3Ws in load range E. Love em even more. May never try another tire. Does it all great, and probably one of the best mudders and snow tires for an aggressive AT, probably due to the deepest grooves of any AT. Long live the Wildpeaks.

the E load in 35’s is what keeps me away from the Falkens. what psi are you running them on the rubicon JL? i have a sahara and the stiffer E has me wondering what kind of ride i would get. i know they are over 100lbs with my wheel (fuel hostage)

    • @dadventuretv2538
      @dadventuretv2538 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@pdiehm I wouldn’t let it prevent you. I run around 35 psi for daily and they feel good. Honestly I haven’t noticed much of a difference from the C load 33s. Granted I do carry about 400lbs of stuff, not including me, in my truck all the time. Just a note- I have a Rubicon which does have the upgraded Fox shocks. The one thing I think Jeep screwed up on the JT is the tires- yeah it’s very similar to a JL but the longer wheelbase makes a huge difference, both good and bad. Good is that it rides so much better. Bad is that it’s breakover is not good. It should come stock with 35s on it- it fixes the bad and if they have a load range of E it’s fine because of the good. Plus you get tougher sidewalls from Es. Happy hunting.

I've got the AT3WA on my pickup and they aren't amazing on wet hard surfaces, great for everything else and on the road in the dry you'd barely know you had all-terrain tyres on the vehicle aside from being heavier tyres they need a bit more to get going and harder braking.
My other set of wheels for the pickup are Bridgestone Turanza t005 and I've got enhanced wet weather tyres on my other vehicles so definitely notice the difference on wet roads.

I've only had them 6 months, but I have driven on wet roads ( which they do fine ), gravel roads ( fine as well ), and some mud ( also no problems ). The driver of any vehicle can maintain their vehicle with just about any reputable AT tire and since all manufacturers base their composition on the BFG is why I bought BFG.

I’ve always ran KO2’s, switched to wild peaks recently. In the rain there is no comparison, falken 100%. On the pavement falken rides smoother and creates less noise. Tires look pretty comparable as well. I went with the 121s due to hauling a trailer often. Went from 305/65 k02 to 285/70 wild peaks on a 2017 Tacoma 4wd. I am excited to try them in mud and gravel. I am in both conditions often. I have bfg mt’s on my party truck and have never gotten stuck. If your doing light/medium off-roading I think the falkens are gonna give BFG’s a run for their money. If your in mud a lot, you probably already have MT tires and that’s not what this comparison is about.

I bought my Mojave with the Falkens on it as OE- the only condition they completely fell apart on was mud. I had a lift and larger tire put on in March- the tire being the then on sale (though I was looking at them anyways) KO2s. I didn't get them in all conditions yet, but so far- loose dirt, check. Loose gravel and sand, check. Rocks, check. Fording water and performing wet, check. Asphalt, check
I'm really (for the first time as an adult) looking forward to snow and mud season.

Put 275 55R 20 K02’s on my 2018 GMC Sierra Z71 42,000 miles ago. Wearing evenly as far as I can tell. Still have 8/32 tread depth remaining. Mostly on road driving and some gravel roads for work. Notice a bit of slipping on wet roads now, but lately the road noise has increased exponentially! Wife even commented she thought something was wrong with my truck. Keep pressure in spec and rotated every 5000 miles with an oil change. Don’t want to invest in a new set when I don’t need them but seriously thinking about changing them and selling them for a couple hundred bucks due to the treadlife remaining. Looking at the Falken Wildpeaks as an alternative. Mostly for the off-road looks, but want some capability if the need arises.

Nice video. I've been running KO2s (285/60/20s) in western Colorado for about 35K miles on my Tundra. So far, these tires have done every thing I've asked of them. I pull a 5000 lb Travel Trailer, on road and in the desert. I travel in winter to ski resorts and do the occasional off road rock crawling. I know some complain about the "wet pavement" grip, but I've never experienced a problem with that. The tread wear has been great and they look new still.
Having said all that... I'm thinking about the Falken's for my next set.

Charlie I live up on the Alpine Plateau in Colorado at 9400ft. I got talked into the Falkens and come from normally using Duratracs, or KO2’s. This winter the Falkens scared me on snow, they had very little lateral traction. I got stuck in the spring in my driveway on my Tundra. I had to drive around my Tundra with my Tacoma with KO2’s to get pulled out it was pathetic. I found out from Joe Bacal, who Toyo hired to help develop there AT3, that Falken’s changed the compound in between 1/20-1/21 for a more favorable compound for mileage but not for wet conditions. I am going to take a loss and give the Toyo AT3’s a try just so I have better snow performance.

So far, wild peaks have been the best overall a/t tire and usually the cheapest size for size. About to purchase a 3rd set 265/60r18 for my 4x4 frontier that has 202,000+ miles on it. The first two sets started at 45k miles. So I’ve gotten 155,000 miles out of 2 sets, which would average me at 77.5k miles per set. I usually rotate at oil change every 3500-4500 miles. If it wasn’t for winter and state inspection, I’d rotate this set and run another 5-10k as my fronts got a bit of tread more than my rears (started to peel out whenever I leave a stop, and especially on wet pavement or leaves). But hopefully my local VIP tire has a buy 3 get 1 free deal this November. Otherwise, about $1000 for 4 @ this size. KO2’s in the same size is about $1200 and the only other tire I’d consider purchasing but between reviews and prices, the at3w keeps winning. Someday I’ll choke my wallet into purchasing a set. But if I don’t like them, I’ll be kicking my own ass for 40-50k miles.

@markbergthold6181, the Falken Wildpeaks have indeed been praised for their all-round performance, especially in snow. It's great that you're having a good experience with them! As for the BFG KO2 vs Falken Wildpeak AT3w debate, it's always an interesting one, as each of these tires brings its own pros and cons to the table.

I've had both. I run them City & Hwy, I tow a 7k lbs Travel Trailer, and have run them on Pacific Northwest Winters, as well as gravel and heavy mud backroads. AT3W's beat the Ko2 for wet and snow, about the same for towing, neither are squishy, ride the same on dry. Both are decent on gravel but in mud they both suck equally. And when I say suck, I mean you better have a winch or a buddy with MT's to pull you out.. There really isn't an AT that's good in mud, the spacing is too tight to grab mud and eject it. AT3W's also have the deepest tread depth in class, far more than the KO2's and last way longer. The only inferior traits are the AT3W's are the heaviest AT tire on the market and fuel economy goes down and also they are super expensive right now... The used to be cheaper before Covid.

Yeah I had the k02s and they were great in deep snow but they were terrible in the rain and on slushy roads or mud. The k02s got caked up with snow and mud and would lose traction. You had to spin them hard to clean them.

@@comparethetire Update: Had the Falkens for about a month and I'm really liking them. Just got a chance to drive with them in the Rain for the first time and it has been a Night and Day difference between the KO2s and the Falken AT3Ws. That said, I have a lot more confidence in the rain with no spinning at all with a normal to slightly aggressive takeoff speed. Ironically, I had to perform a more aggressive stop today on a Wet Road in which I locked up the brakes. The truck was pretty easy to keep straight, but the actual stopping distance could have been better. However, it was way better than the KO2s, because I would've probably had to run a Red Light.
"Two thumbs up" for the light truck with a little bit of weight in the back. Thanks again for the review and will check out the new comparison.
