We test and then compare tires very deeply. And we are starting things here with All Terrain tires for now.
Although all tires are compared on our website in detail, we felt the need to educated people more and that was only possible with video visuals.
Thank you for your support.

Cooper Discoverer Road + Trail A/T Review (Detailed)
Introducing the Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT, featuring an aggressive sidewall design and cutting-edge technologies. This all-terrain tire promises great reliability for various vehicles.
Design Highlights:
Tread Design: Road-oriented yet aggressively symmetrical with five distinct ribs.
Central Ribs: Unique block configurations with offset edges and sharp, saw-toothed snow vices for enhanced snow grip.
Curved Linear Sipes: Found in central ribs for better traction and stability, with adjacent ribs featuring laterally oriented sipes and snow vices.
Shoulders: Wave-like sipes, chamfered edges, and notches, interconnected by "whisper grooves."
Outer Edges: Staggered lugs with robust sidewalls, impressive for highway performance.
Dry Traction:
-Directional Grip: Assessed by braking distances. The compact central rib and robust foundational supports ensure optimal road contact.
Stickier composition and strategic notches enhance straight-line traction. Tests show that the Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail A/T stops half a foot shorter than its predecessor.
-Dry Handling: Combines lateral grip and steering responsiveness. Provides sufficient lateral traction, but steering responsiveness could improve due to the tire's substantial weight. Still performs better than the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S.
Wet Traction and Handling:
Cooper Road+Trail A/T excels in wet braking, handling, and steering feedback with a mix of linear and wave-like sipes and numerous biting edges.
In tests, it outperformed the AT3 4S by over a foot in wet braking and was half a second faster in wet handling laps.
Winter Performance:
Winter Grip Technology: Earns both the 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake and M+S (Mud and Snow) ratings. Silica-rich, softer rubber composition and numerous sipes effectively grip icy and powdery snowy surfaces.
Noise Comfort:
Performance on Different Surfaces: Acceptable noise levels on rougher surfaces like cross-cut concrete. Needs improvement on smoother pavements, where it emits noticeable, cyclical noise.
Mitigation Efforts: Pitch Sequencing Technology helps reduce in-groove resonance by varying tire lug angles, producing different sound frequencies to reduce echo within the tread walls.
Fuel Economy:
EnduraGuard Design, intended for durable internal construction, results in increased tire weight, affecting fuel efficiency.
The pliant rubber compound, optimized for winter and wet performance, causes tire lugs to bend more easily, dissipating energy as heat.
These elements enhance durability and performance but reduce fuel efficiency slightly.
Muddy Conditions:
Features wide grooves and self-cleaning capabilities to prevent tread clogging. Best suited for lighter, less challenging mud.
Rocky Terrains:
Interconnected groove structure and independent lugs with offset edges provide good grip from various angles.
Supported by EnduraGuard technology for added durability. Suitable for lighter rocky trails but may not match the ruggedness needed for tougher environments compared to options like the BF Goodrich KO3.
Sandy Surfaces:
Softer, silica-rich tread allows more rubber to contact the ground, especially at lower air pressures. Sidewalls flex to enlarge the contact patch, distributing the vehicle's weight more evenly to prevent sinking. Slightly heavier weight could be a drawback in very deep sand.
Overall, the Cooper Road+Trail offers reliable performance across a range of off-road conditions but excels most on less demanding terrains.

Announcer is nerve grating.
Cooper St max? You can stud them too.
Great video I own the AT3 XLT and totally love them. I am considering these on my grand jeep cherokee Cooper makes excellent tires..
Couldn't agree more! And thanks for liking the video.
One thing not addressed which is a major concern, is increased highway tire noise as the tread wears. Mud Terrain tires are notoriously horrible for this, but how would you expect these 2 to fare?
Great point! Tire noise can definitely become an issue as tread wears down, especially with more aggressive patterns. Both the Goodyear DuraTrac RT and the BF Goodrich KO3 have designs aimed at reducing noise, but as they wear, you might still notice an increase. Mud Terrains are indeed notorious for this, so it's something to keep in mind!
I tried to give this review a fair trial but the annoying sound effects have made me leave before the video was over. The video is supposed to be about tire comparison not about annoying sound effects. You lost my vote because of that. Get rid of the noise and maybe you'll get more subscribers.
Thanks for your feedback we've fixed this issue in our latest videos.
Had both. The generals will last way longer.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's always helpful to hear real-world feedback. Longevity is a crucial factor, and it's good to know the General Grabber ATX worked well for you.
Falken is complete garbage
Objectively you're wrong. They've worked great for thousands of people. There is a reason they are a top competitor in the AT category.
How so?
Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience with Falken. It's interesting how tire performance can vary so much depending on the use case. What issues did you run into with them?
had both - BF is garbage
It's tough when a product doesn't meet expectations. Tires can be hit or miss depending on usage and driving conditions. What issues did you encounter with the BF Goodrich?
@@comparethetire many punctures driving in the bush. I live in northern ontario canada.
@@stevelevesque3274 Oh okay, sorry to hear that.
I think both are going to be really good tires. Falkens are always good, they know what they are doing. As for BFG, I don't think they would be putting out the KO3 so soon after the KO2 came out if it wasn't a significant improvement. They obviously were well aware of the KO2's issues and this was their response. That's my hope atleast. The new tread pattern makes way more sense for wet conditions, and it sounds like they've made a lot of other subtle changes that will make an all around better tire.
So soon🤦♂️🥴🤡
yeah 40 years is practically next day.
@@firebirdlover4460 KO2 came out in 2015, so just 9 years ago.
I completely agree! Both brands have a strong track record, and it's exciting to see the new improvements. The KO3 does seem to address many of the KO2's shortcomings, especially in wet conditions. Let's hope the changes make a noticeable difference!
Any news on a new general grab at3 coming out for 2024
I haven't heard any specific news about a new General Grabber AT3 for 2024 yet, but it's always worth keeping an eye out for updates from the manufacturer. They might surprise us!
I Use in my toyota tundra 2014 the same toyo tires that came with the truck, the car has over 70k miles
Yes they do have a great longevity.
In the comments I read about Duratrac RT, they praise its performance on snow and comfortable ride on asphalt. What would you like to say about this? What is the difference on snow compared to Mickey Thompson? I need to upgrade to a new set soon and there are no mickey thompson dealers where I live.
Well Mickey Thompson offers better snow performance in comparison.
@@comparethetire Thank you for this comment . Its helpful 🙏
I put the Destination AT2 on my 4Runner a few months ago and I'm very happy with it. Better performance than the OEM tires on wet and dry handling and better MPG.
Yes, they are pretty great when it comes to those 3 areas.
Did you test the wildpeak at3 or at4?
Yes, we published a video of their comparison too.
We’ll just have to wait and see with the new KOs. They have always used a harder rubber/less silica which was why they sucked in the wet, especially as they got some age and wear on them.
Kos have been improved significantly.
Hopefully they arent skiis in the wet when they get half worn like the KO2s
Ko2 basically uses a dual compound with harder layer of rubber beneath, that's why with wear they loose wet traction.
If you like picking stones outta your tires go with the KO3. I’m highly disappointed in them. Just bought a set at discount tire last week and there going back. Wife has the AT4W on her 4Runner with no issues. BFG if u Add the stone ejectors back u have a perfect tire
Yes really miss the stone ejectors on the KO3s.
@@comparethetire crazy how much difference they make
Nitto Ridge Grappler fans are gonna be disappointed 😂
Yes I get that. Its a nice tire.
Goodyear shouldn't be on this! Are anything they make
I understand where you're coming from.
How about the nokian nat?
Yes they are okay, but there's wasn't anything unique about them that could put them in the list.
Couldn't make it to the list. Sorry.
Very nice. Appreciate the feedback on these all terrain wheels. Had the MT Baja Boss A/T in line for my next tire replacements after doing research on my options. Currently wearing down a set of Falken Wildpeak AT3 at the moment.
I've been using the baja boss a/ts for just over a year. no complaints
@@psybain Good to hear bud. Thanks for the input.
Thanks for sharing.
Falken wildpeak people are gonna be upset with this one
Yes I get that.
Still odd that its not even top 10. No way 10 a/t tires are better.
Finally!!!!!!!
😂
Great 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks 🤗
Which is quieter?
KO3
@@comparethetire have you compared the noise of Duratrac RT VS KO2?
Had 2 sets of Falken wildpeak at3w worked great 50,000 miles still good tread, had Cooper Discover at3 tread didn't hold up, lots of chunking out.
What size and vehicle were you running?
Which All Terrain Tires would you recommend for a 1985 Jeep CJ7. It’s a soft top base model that is around the stock weight. Let me know thanks!
Cooper AT3 XLT. You can also check out the Discoverer Road + Trail.
@@comparethetireAppreciate the response, I’ll check them out!
Where I go it's sugar sand and when it floods out we call it sugar soup you don't want to slow down faster the better you sink quick
Thanks for sharing.
Too many screeching sound effects.
Yes we changed that.
I love the idea of the at3 but I tow heavy stuff off road and that one ply has me alittle worried. What do you guys think ? Right now I have the stt pro , hasn’t gotten stuck in the mud at all with these bad boys
STT Pro being a mud terrain tire provides much better off road traction over A/T tires.
@@comparethetire yes it does and the terrain I’m on is unforgiving. People always get stuck but my stt pro and Silverado get out with ease
I just ordered the new Falken Wildpeak AT4W in SL for my GX 470. Can’t wait to put these new shoes on. My current Firestone Destination AT sucks so bad lol
Glad to hear that. Do share your experience with them here.
I think the Defender 2 wins
Yes, you can say that.
My EV seems to freely spin on the wet conditions. I was going to get Crossclimate2 but the Discount Tire Rep recommended the Defender 2. I live in Southern CA so I don’t need that heavy tires here. I can feel the smooth ride and quiet right away. Thank you for the review. 👍
If wet performance is your concern, its better to get CrossClimate 2 over Defender 2. They of course being grand touring tires do better than standard touring.
It all depends on what your primary use is for the vehicle the tires are going on. I very seldom go off-road. I use my truck to pull a 19ft bass boat so I want a quieter ride and less weight for better fuel economy along with the rare off road trip so the Toyo is the logical choice for me.
Great point but may I add, it also depends highly on the load rating, and durability of the tire. Glad you like Toyo AT3.
The Duratrac is a great tire indeed. It's just that sidewall... is hideous looking. The KO2 and KO3 are great looking tires overall. They give any truck a "premium" look.
Well if you're looking for aggressive sidewalls, you may want to consider Mickey Thompson A/T.
You rate tires based on appearance ? 😳
@kt3505 I can't comment my opinion of the APPEARANCE of the sidewalls??? Sheeeesh
@@Vodafone16v Well no if we are talking performance ;) , some of the ugliest girls make the best wives!
So what about the anti-puncture ability of the new Duratrac RT, especially compared to KO2?
Yes its pretty durable, especially with sizes having DuraWall tech.
Sidewall failures were a huge issue with the OG Duratrac's. I ended up taking them off my trucks that came with the from the factory and swapping them with a higher ply rating Wildpeak.
@@egregiousblunder5395the new Duratracs have the Kevlar sidewall ply that Goodyear uses on some of its other tires, so it shouldnt be an issue now.
@@John_Redcorn_ it's interesting that there's no Kevlar marks on the side wall of this new Duratrac RT in AU market, which marks could be seen on the Duratrac RT in US market.
stupid ass video. buddy reading off some scripts. 👎🏻👎🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
The Duratrac RT doesn't even come in many sizes. So, no matter what you might think of that tire, you have a very limited size range. The KO3... We'll good luck with that, it's was supposed to be on the market months ago and is now barely trickling in. At this point, you're probably better off picking up some Falken tires. Get real...
Sizes will continue to be released 2025 and 2026.
I hear ya. The comparison is based on the sizes available right now. We will update if anything changes in the future.
Kinda like how any new product is you mean ?
@kt3505 we are talking about tires. If you have almost no size available, then it's worthless. That's what we are talking about here, dummy.
If they have your size, it doesnt matter about the other sizes now does it?
Can you compare the K03 to the Bridgestone Dueller Revo and the Firestone Destination AT?
Sure, if your comments get enough likes, we'd def do that.
Thank you for this analysis!
My pleasure!
I love my climate 2 on my elantra quality and amazing in winter super quiet
Same here. Older Elantra but loving them as a daily driver.
Duratracs dont have siping through entire lug which sucks bad. Ko2 so much better
Yes they don't have exactly the same pattern as they wear down.
To summarize: The K03 is a slightly better on road tire. The Duratract RT is slightly better off road.
Yes, if you want to put it in a line.
But the Duratrac RT does better on wet and snowy roads so, in adverse conditions it’s the better on road tire too.
Good Year for the win
👍
I've had Duratracs on my last 3 trucks. Half ton.....I don't do E tires. Lite weight durable,I've never had a side puncture....but my offloading is mud,,sand and fields. Bit noisy on road, incredible traction in snow and ice till it wears down, then sucks. I resiped mine on 3rd winter.....huge difference. Mud....awesome. The rt has more siping.....winter traction will be even better. I stay stock size......275/60/20 The bfg doesn't appear to be available in that size......odd that the best selling half ton comes in that 20" size. I finally saw the rt's in person and pretty sure they r going on by winter.
@@rodjbosch Have you had duratrac or duratrac RT?
@MrRakp Ive run the old Duratracs on last 3 trucks Rt's will be going on in fall before winter hits.
@@rodjbosch Why go offroad with a 20" rim and a 275/60 profile tyre? That's just doing it wrong, all wheel and no tyre.
Just tell everyone you’re a KO2 fanboy already
Actually I am a fan of all terrain tires.
Great comparison!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Not happy with this Trail Terrain. 2020 Jeep Compass Trailhawk. Very little traction…4x4 coffee land roads.. Also own 4x4 Tacoma TRD and 4x4 tundra both have BFGS A/T…way better tires..
Thanks for sharing Jeff.
My ko2s are on my 2015 toyota tacoma got the tires in 2016 and there still on the truck love my ko2s 👍
Wow nice to hear.
I have a set of the defender 2's sweet tire I have 0 complaints but one and it has nothing to do with the tire performance. i have a 2012 Lexus es350 the tire on it was a Perilli and I replaced it with this. long story short the Pirelli was a bit lower profile and looked better. but at the end of the day this is a better preforming tire. no doubt.
Absolutely! While the aesthetic might differ from the lower-profile Pirelli, the Defender 2s are likely providing you with enhanced comfort and overall performance. It's great to hear they're performing well for you!
How long last after using?
Depends on your usage, but generally they last great as they are standard touring tires. Defender 2 has better longevity btw off the two tires here.
