- In Zoo Antwerpen lives the family of Matadi. Matadi (silverback), Mayani (mother thandie), Mambele and Amahoro. Amahoro is the last Eastern Lowland Gorilla who lives in a zoo worldwide. Because (ofc) gorillas aren't taken out of the wild anymore and the others died in zoos by age, and they weren't successful in breading new eastern lowland gorilla's. A very special and beautiful lady. It's wonderful to see how great she is as an auntie. Thandie absolutely loves her, and walks after Ama a lot these days haha. Sometimes auntie Ama is also in for some fun and cuddles. Hope you'll enjoy the video!

They are truly one of my favorite Gorilla families. They have a very tight bond with each other and I have never seen a jealous moment between them, and AMA is so caring for her niece Thandie. Anyone who don’t know this family would think that AMA is the mother, and it looks like Thandie spends more time with AMA than with her own mother.
Truly a beautiful and blessed family.

Thandie! She is so pretty. Anything can be a toy!. Auntie is as attentive as mommie. I never thought of gorillas having a family bond, it is amazing.

I love how Amahoro takes care of Thandie, females seem to be good Moms in all animals. Thandie is content rolling on a bent plastic barrel or a small limb, she is precious! Her coat looks like silk! Thank you for sharing this beautiful family with us!

@@carlettajames2871 there are no other eastern lowland gorilla's in zoos. She's the last one worldwide. Because in the wild the eastern and western lowland gorilla's live to far apart, they don't know, what will happen if they would let an eastern breed with a western. If it doesn't happen in the wild, it doesn't happen in the zoo is the policy ;).

Amahoro looks different but also is different. She is an eastern lowland gorilla while the others are western lowland gorilla's ;). Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for sharing. This is my very first time actually watching Amahoro. She looks very different from the Western Lowland Gorillas. What I can say is that in Africa there are 3 different types of gorillas. The mountain gorillas, Eastern and Western gorillas n each of them look differently n the same goes with the Orangutans n Chimpanzees. The Orangutans that u always see in zoos all belong to the Borneo Island of Sabah n Sarawak (East Malaysia) and Kalimantan (Indonesia) The Western Orangutans found in Sumatera, Indonesia looks very different. As for the Chimpanzees it's also the same. Western Chimpanzees looks very differnt from Central and Eastern Chimpanzees..
Greatest favour, the next time when u go again to Belgium, is it possible to film a little bit longer maybe about 15 minutes please? That is if you can otherwise doesn't matter. Once again thank you so much for doing all these for all the gorilla fans.

@@eagse they think she was born in 1990. She came from the wild. (Two different stories circulate, she might have been found on an airport by authorities because people were trying to ship her as a pet. But she might also come from an shelter.) She is at least since 1994 in the Zoo of Antwerpen. So she is probably 30years old by now.

Question:: Why is Europe so successful in breeding with multiple wives and offspring...🐒
Good question. It also has to do with if they are allowed to breed by the breeding program. Because of the babybooms a few years back there was a hold on breeding I heard. And apparently good surrounding and they like each other ;p.

@@LiekesShotOfLife It's baffling why some zoo's are extremely successful in breeding and others not so. Here in the U.S. the Bronx Zoo is very successful with over 20 gorilla's with multiple births with many babies only months apart. The zoo is located in a populated area situated in between 2 major subway lines & elevated trains that are noisy plus high rise buildings in the mix. Zoo Atlanta in the southern US is just as successful as the Bronx Zoo which is in the Northeast and both are renowned for having the highest concentration of Western Lowland Gorilla's in the world. Then u have the San Diego Zoo on the West coast of the US and they finally have a beautiful baby girl named Angela after a 20 year hiatus between births.
@@ofcolorscreativecollective5510 apparently the love is strong enough in some zoos and they're probably used to the noices arround them. And the breeding program allowes them to breed or their little mistakes. Many possibilities ;)

Mom is Beautiful
Amahoro is such a sweet Auntie. She always seems so patient with Thandie and always seems to be there right when Thandie needs her. I love this family ♥️. I can’t wait to watch the videos of Thandie & her baby sister growing together which I hope Vizazi also becomes close with Amahoro!

Unfortunately no, as she is a different species, she is on birth control, she does mate with Matadi... He is a busy Silverback that's for sure.😅✌️

No, Amahoro never had children. And yes they do live in the wild but not much anymore ;)
Did Amahoro have babies or was there no male left to breed her with? I feel kind of sorry for her. Hopefully the eastern lowland gorillas won’t go extinct in the wild.
No sadly there was no possibility for her. I feel sorry for her that she can't have babies. But I'm happy she was saved and has a wonderful live in Zoo Antwerpen. She is showing go be a caring auntie. Luckily she is allowed to play an cuddle with Thandie ❤️. Hopefully they will keep on saving them in the wild and won't go extinct. Because it's for sure they will go extinct in zoos. But it's a good thing that they're not taken out of the wild anymore.

What happened to Thandies mom ?.
She's around just doing her thing. Remember a video shows you a few moments out of the day ;). She still goes to mom for milk and to hang around also. But sometimes Mayani wants to do her own thing and she let's Thandie hang out with auntie Amahoro or daddy Matadi or auntie Mambele.
Amahoro even looks different. Her fur/hair is a lot longer. Can she have babies? Or is it just that it's not been successful?
She is a different gorilla. She is an Eastern lowland gorilla that's why her hair is longer, thicker and she is bigger and havier then the other females. She can not have babies because she is the last eastern lowland gorilla worldwide in a zoo. Breeding with the westerns is not allowed because it doesn't happen in the wild. She's a great auntie luckily. And it's very special that she's alloerd to babysit. Normally only sisters/elder children are allowed to babysit.
They are beautiful but I feel a little sad that they are in captivity
I get it. But I'm even more sad for those who have to live in the dangerous wild where the habitat is broken and they're being hunted by humans. I hope people will get aware of how important it is to protect them in the wild. 🙏
