    I love this video! It's such a simple rundown on how to go from the bare bones of a formulation then zhuzh it up. I've been making my own conditioner for a few months now and can't imagine going back to store-bought. Not only do I prefer how it preforms, but as someone who loves to make and experiment, getting to try out new techniques and additives and fragrances is my idea of some Saturday fun!

    I recently bought a conditioner bar from Etsy with BTMS 50 because you love BTMS so much in your hair -- and I have to say it's the best thing I've ever done for my 3a-b curly hair. Virtually no more frizz, soft, shiny, defined curls. I'll never go back to regular conditioner. Excellent recommendation! 🙂

    I’ve been making the light weight conditioner as my go-to since this was first published. I have thin, fine hair that feels a lot like cat hair. Most conditioners are just too much for my hair and makes it look flat and dirty. No conditioner at all and my hair gets flyaways, breaks off and turns dull. Formula #1 has kept my hair happy for a year. Holy Moly!

    I never thought about grinding it prior to melting. I’m going to try that.

    Your constant reminder to have a "diy only food processor" reminded me, i use a magic bullet that isnt strong enough for smoothies anymore but is the perfect way to have weird food grinders (grinding up shitake mushrooms also should not be done in the household coffee grinder we discovered) and also keep some DIY only parts!

    Thanks for this video, I,m thrilled to see it. I chose to make the richer third recipe as I have recently grown my hair and it’s very curly and fine and prone to frizz. Unfortunately I have age related hair loss and I,m so worried when it tangles as combing it through and tugging contributes to hair falling out.I have been using a kerastase conditioner and it’s awesome, though I find I need to use a lot and at $55 NZ for 250 mls that’s stressful! I worked out it cost me about $5 to make your recipe for 100ml.So $15 compared to $55. I used half coconut oil and half Argan oil. It feels amazing, hair wet at present, will see how it dries. The BMS was a pain to melt in my double boiler, became firmer on heating and when I attempted to stir it with my spatula it stuck like glue! It did mostly dissolve then did completely on blending.I,ll definitely whiz it down next time as you suggest. I look forward to trying jojoba oil for less tangle and better comb through and I,m planning to add rosemary either in an infused oil or in the water phase, like a tea or as rosemary essential oil.

      The easiest thing would be to use BTMS-50 instead of BTMS-25. You could also try incorporating a secondary cationic ingredient, like polyquaternium 7 or cationic guar gum :)

    Hi Marie! I hope you find this comment since this is an older post. But i just made the 3rd Conditioner! I havent tried using it yet because I ran into a problem. During the cool down phase when i added my ingredients, it started to curdle!
    The alterations that i made was instead of jojoba oil, i used Borage and Eveningprimrose oil. Then instead of rice hydrolyzed protein, i used keratin hydrolyzed protein. What could have gone wrong?? I waiting to see if my second immersion blending helped "re-emulsified" everything...

      Yes! I use the broad spectrum variable with ethylhexylglycerin, its often sold under product name EHGP or Ethylhexylglycerin Phenoxyethanol. I love it. Heat tolerance, can be used both in anhydrous and emulsions, can be used in wide range of pH. Down side is it is not considered natural. But I have no issues with it. The lotions I made with it lasted for over 2 years with no molds.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You _can_ , but I think it would be a beast to clean up. Beeswax is really quite sticky and I suspect you'd never get your grinder clean enough to use for anything else afterwards.

      10% is totally fine, and "enough" is a very personal thing :) If you like 10% then you'll probably find 4% a bit light-or perhaps just perfect for a leave-in conditioner!
