- Fitting a new 100cc petrol engine to my MTB - Making the cheapest motocross bike! I fit a 100cc petrol engine to my mountain bike before sending it at the local trails and urban MTB freeride spots, would you ride this?
I bought this 100cc petrol engine off the internet and fitted it to one of my free bike challenge mountain bikes before taking out my newly modified cheap motocross bike for a shred session around my hometown of Colchester. Although the bike is now a 100cc powered machine it really wasn't as fast as I was hoping but I managed to have so much fun on this bike starting off with some full speed full throttle passes and wheelies out in the winter sun! From here I went home for some maintenance because the exhaust fell off, before heading to the local skatepark to see how it would perform in the skate bowl. With the bike now lacking an exhaust and not much power I decided to ride a homemade flat bike trail, with a wide open section into a tiny jump and a berm before the finale of riding down a stair set of doom out in an urban MTB freeride environment! I love how you can just buy an engine for £160 and transform your bike into a totally different machine, I just wish I knew more about engines than I do... I would love to get one of these running perfectly and hit some big jumps on it but let's see what the future brings. Do you want to see more of this crazy petrol mountain bike?

The enjoyment you get from simple/cheap things is an art form in itself. I really appreciate it. At the same time, I’d love to witness your stoke levels on a KTM 300 out in the proper woods.
No joke I can go pickup junk put in the trash with an engine and have a blast. Kids learn and best cheap entertainment kids could have.

Just a quick tip for running these peddle bikes. Keep peddling when the engine is engadged it helps the motor to run more efficiently and wont bog nowhere near as much. Also it has a manual choke which you can adjust on the carb/air filter to help with the bogging out aswell. These are great fun and had hours of enjoyment out of them

@@chrzanik666 you need more Monny! And just keep practicing, you'll find the sweet spot, try lowering your seat too.
The screw on the outside is just the idle fuel pin. If you move it out you'll notice the bike stalls even with the clutch disengaged. What you need to do is open the carburetor and replace the main fuel pin. That carburetor comes with a #60 pin as standard, you want a #66 it get more power at the top end. To access the main fuel pin on your carburetor. Unscrew the bottom two screws holding the fuel reservoir and pointing down will be a brass nut. 6mm, unscrew it, that's the main fuel pin. Replace with a #66.
Plus those air intakes are known for being rubbish, just drill some more holes in them to get more air flow.
you cun run them without air filter no problem. just take it off
You should look into a larger sprocket for the back wheel. you would lose a bit of top speed, but would have much more torque in the lower ends, which seems to be needed in this case.
Oh and Also, check the air intake to make sure there is no restriction. (there could be a piece of cardboard in there from the factory)
What you need to do is put you a new carb on there and a fmf exhaust header

these motors are so shit! the cylinder wall coating crumbles and you lose compression. Should run for a few hours. Love these videos.

It sounds really rich. Try drilling holes in the. air filter and it should open up
Yep its rich. Just take off the airfilter before drilling holes in it;) if it runs better you could consider drilling holes. However to really solve it is fit a smaller jet in the carburetor. That will really make it run good. Get a couple of sizes. Best is to tune down, try steps smaller. As it is still new I would leave it a bit rich for 5 hours of using it. Or just go lean immediately and see how long it will last 😁
Should find out what mixture he's at, im sure he mixed it 32 to one, should be running 40 or 50-1
@@ubajava carb pin screw is only for idle adjustments. Can fiddle a bit with the needle(if it even has one) put the needle lower, but the problem is still a jet that’s a bit too big.
@@delahayenator yeah he just needs to adjust the needle to the top notch to lean the fuel out and modify the air filter to let it breathe more, I’ve got a 100cc motorised bike myself
@@delfinsidiropoulos4786 for sure worth trying before changing the jet. Set the needle deep like you say. Top notch :)
Try adjusting the needle clip on the carb if that doesn't work you need smaller main jet. Also air filter might strict the airflow a little bit too.
You're correct the needle is set to rich .the clip on the needle needs moving up 2 leaning out the engine. A plug cheek will tell you what you need to know ...black / oily -to rich . A brown tint is good ..pale- to lean.

You probably need to install the drive gear it came with. That smaller gear that you have on the wheel is probably part of what is bogging the motor down. It's too small and it's causing the motor to pull harder than it's rated for. Just a thought. Besides it would be easier to wheelie that way.

Hey there Sam, I don know a thing or two about engines. Befor you bother with jetting and the carburator in general you need to get a proper pipe! You need an expansion chamber pipe, like on your Suzuki. Then you should be able to make some power, if the engine is worth something!
Yea know what you mean I Got a go kart put a ts250 engine on it, exhaust had no expansion. It run horrible and wouldn't clear, fitted a fmf expansion pipe on it and its running spot on.
Do you guys not release that the second exhaust that he fited on the bike was as expansion power pipe with the muffler cut off the end
heres a tip bro when you first build a engine together thats new you have to brake in the engine so it can go faster and smoother but nice vids and i love them keep up the good work bro :)

@Joseph Mcgann But he welded up the frame for strength because it would bend or snap. He even added extra metal and strengthened the dropouts.

Hi sam bud since it's a new engine there is a break in procedure especially with a two stroke engine most of them you mix 16:1 premix for 2 tanks never going above half throttle for those to tanks then back to 20:1 premix

Sam, would love to see you build another motorized, the reason its bogging down is because the factory incorrectly jets the carb (also these china engines are pretty shit) , get a jet kit and use a 60-68 see how you go :)

You know a bike is well-built when Sam cant break it!
Sam take apart the carb and check if the holes of the jets are clean. When there is even a bit of dirt the motor can´t run on full throttle, because there isnt enought fuel coming throught.
It's bogging because it's new and not mixed properly. Don't mix the fuel to oil ratio at 16:1, mix it at 32:1. It'll lean it out and give it more power :)
That engine is small enough to probably run it 40:1 or 50:1

Sam on the carb there,s 2 screws one is a mixture screw one a idle speed screw it needs the mixture screw turning in to richen the revs will rise then slow it down on the other screw (IDLE)! Boom to the sky you go!! haha

The lack of back pressure from the exhaust could be lowering the performance.
Also the jets in the carb. The jets are easy to change, you can buy a jet kit and experiment.
And the thin fuel tube might be collapsing under vacuum.

Hey Sam, coming from am ex-motocross racer. When we got new bikes/engines we ran our engine in first for 15hours between 25% to 50% of power. Then only after that could send the engine.

these little motors are great, but they have a break in period of a couple tanks. ive been running a cheap one of these for nearly 10 years, ripping on trails and roads with zero issues. ya just gotta give them some love first.

the best mod out there is the boost bottle it pre mixes the fuel and air for a more continuous power output
Sam new to the channel but content is "SICK" those lil things is all about the lil tweaks gas mix and a somewhat good carb swap carb get it in band!! Messing around with them is fun!!

You have to run it in 😂 bro I have one and it took like 2 tanks of fuel to run it in and now has full power also removing air filter on carby helps with bogging and it’s better when it’s tuned

The YD100 is actually 80cc. You need to adjust the carb needle to get it to run properly. You want the plug to be brown, not black or grey, black is too rich and grey is too lean. The higher the clip on the carb needle the leaner, the lower it is, the richer the mix.

These motors are awesome. It all depends on the person who owns it. You didn't break it in, didn't tune it. Not sure how i feel about it video. But its still enjoyable to watch. Nice one.
