Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 Rally Car Turbo Sounds & Anti-Lag!

- For the 2019 edition of the Monza Rally Show the only official class was the R5 and this meant the presence of an insane number of R5 cars (59 in total) among which there were five VW Polo GTIs.
The Polo R5 is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with 272 hp and 400 Nm of torque. A five-speed sequential gearbox, permanent four-wheel drive and its weight of just 1,230 kilograms allow the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

Some racing games had me thinking rally cars handled tarmac poorly for some odd reason. I see that was a damn lie
Well rallycars do not have very stiff suspension, they require a lot of sliding to get through corners, but relative to most other cars they perform quite well. Their small size means great handling as well.
A car with gravel tires and suspension setup wouldn’t do as well but these cars are all setup for tarmac
They are set up to run on asphalt, and they have a different set when they are out on the dirt, and they also have a different set up when they go in the snow
To add to what others have said , tyres , suspension setup , sway bar stiffness , steering geometry and brake bias setup (amongst other things that I am not knowledgable enough to comment on ) are all adjusted to suit the conditions of each event , there is no universal setup that can't be deviated from.
The handling on tarmac in dirt rally 2.0 is crap.
Why do they make this when vag allready have rally2 skoda?

Those second generation R5 are brutal, not only the Polo but also the Fabia Evo and the C3. Watching them perform on a rally stage is quite an experience.

Why do they always accelerate and hit the brakes in the beginning?
To warm up the tires
and brakes
Some aggressive brake pad compounds don't start performing at their optimum until they have a bit of heat in them . Doesn't hurt to get some heat into the tyres and shocks aswell. Warm up before the start so that you can drive harder from the very beginning of the race .
Because of ceramic disk brakes they will only work under heavy load when they're hot. This disk brakes are recomended for race cars for good brake performance but not recomended for street cars because you will never get that damn disks hot enough and you will shit in your pants when you was speeding and need to brake for the trafic lights.

eduardo maldini the squeaky-whooshing noise the front of the car makes? Or the bangs and pops the rear? The front is the blow off valve of the excess turbo pressure and the rear is the ALS or anti lag system that creates mini explosions in the turbo manifold to keep the turbo spinning when they let off the throttle
