CORNWALL WALK - Luxulyan Valley, Cornwall

  • The Luxulyan Valley, which is near St Austell, is regarded as one of the most beautiful, peaceful and historically important valleys in Cornwall. Hidden down tiny country lanes the Luxulyan Valley was in the mid to late 19th century, at the heart of one of the county's most important mining enterprises. We explore the industrial past within the valley, including the magnificent Treffry Aqueduct which soars 100 feet above the valley floor. Our walk is a 2.5 mile, relatively easy walk along the valley floor with mainly gentle gradients. NB This walk was filmed in June 2018.

How nice to see again the Luxulyan Valley and the Treffry Aqueduct, it has to be about 5 years ago when we were here, i thought it was just a bridge, but when i seen the water running just under those massive slabs of granite, i was really impressed. Well done on another great film

Such an enchanting area and place to explore - we half expected Andrew to go off on a piskie and fairy hunt! John says he is going to investigate this pastie harvest!! Thank you for another entertaining video.

I love these sort of walks where you come across abandoned historical remains of buildings etc. I'm on the other side of the country to you, and there are lots of hidden places to discover here in Kent on long lonely walks. Lots of You Tube vids on them too! But Cornwall has my heart for sure! We have a viaduct & listed mill about 3 miles away from where we live and they are magnificent structures. Nice to see a sunny June walk! It's blowing a gale here in Kent today and no sign of any sunshine, so this cheered me up! x

Great to see this video! The Luxulyan Valley is a very special place in my opinion, a real hidden gem. The viaduct is amazing, as is the waterwheel. If you head over the viaduct in the other direction you can follow the tramway for several hundred yards, and there's an amazing complex of canals and sluices, as well a couple of huge cisterns, hidden in the woods! Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting walk. So peaceful with all that woodland. My family on the female side lived at St Austell before sailing to Australia way back in 1874! We did have a quick visit there last time we had a holiday in Cornwall. What a wonderful book you have from your Great-granddad. All that history and you must keep it in the family. Enjoy the weekend, Warm greetings to you both, Julie.

Yes, wheres my dinner. If I had to inscribe something on the blank coat of arms, it would be "Ice Cream for Everyone" This area looks like a fun area to spend the day exploring. I realized both of you got derailed for a moment, but your video didnt. Really nice job on the video.

Wonderful seeing an inland historical view of Cornwall. It really reminds me of my home state of Pennsylvania USA. Lush greenery, bubbling brooks and local former industrial sites on farms like Hopewell Furnace.

I loved to see this magnificent bridge again. I bicycled under it in September 2012. We started in Luxulyan and bicycled down to Eden Project (which by the way was amazing). And back again through the forest and we saw this fantastic and majestic bridge. But we didn't stop, so this is a lovely piece of information :) Thank you, Sarah and Andrew!

I've never heard of the Luxulyan Valley before so found this very interesting, it always amazes me when you see a viaduct how they could of built it back then it must of taken so long and such a lot of manpower. A lovely looking walk with lots to see and the jokes were a lot of fun as always. Another great video and loved it that you still have your great-grandfathers book, what a lovely thing to have. Thanks Bets x

Hi Bets, great craftsmanship with the viaduct, built in a different era! My great grandad's book is a treasure, if a little battered. He was involved in mining and his annotations are all over it! Sarah :)

And the viaduct is an amazing piece of architecture...I did think how mild your walk looked for this time of year, then I read the rest of your description...then it clicked! Thanks for sharing 😀👍👍👍
