I carry the HL every day. I'm a real estate agent and a flashlight is extremely helpful in attics, crawlspaces, and checking out large lots once the sun has set. In addition a flashlight on a ceiling shows everything, painted over water stains, where a seemingly smooth part of the ceiling was actually cut out and replaced (possible undisclosed repair). I also see the strobe as a safety feature. I also like that it has some weight (I do meet strangers at empty houses for a living). I recharge it using my playstation typically but it seems to hold a charge forever. Most of my clients ask for it constantly after they see me use it once. Now I'm a lady, so I carry a purse, I get a lot of dudes don't do that, but it's a small nifty little light. It fits in my coat pocket. I don't quite understand why everyone seems to find it to be too large. But I guess of you're a guy in blue jeans it could be an issue.
You're so right that I was looking at these very two lights for essentially the same role. Thank you for helping me decide that I should probably just buy both, ha ha ha. I have issues.
I've had the ProTac HL USB for 3 years in December. Awesome light. Takes 2 cr123, 1 18650 or 1 Streamlight rechargeable. Little too big for daily carry but I still do it sometimes. Mostly I carry my Surefire G2X LE which is 600 lumens and the ProTac is 800 0r 850. Rechargeable 18650 in the HL are the cheapest easiest way to go outside of the OEM Streamlight battery. Rechargeable CR123 don't last long in either. ProTac HL is also good enough to be used as a weapon. Very heavy duty housing. No plastic. Use a 5 volt phone charger with higher amps like for most current smartphones and it charges in an hour or two.
I purchased the Polytac X based on your review and glad I did. So far it's done great mounted on my rifle. I plan on pushing it with some rapid fire sessions to see what happens under repeated recoil. Thanks for all of your vids. God bless
I believe that either they do or that there's a compatible one in the after market. I just use my thumb on the base cap switch. I've mounted it on the left all the way forward and I can find it in pitch black with little trouble
Love this series on Streamlight. I was wondering if you ever looked at the ProTac 1L-1AA? I've been carrying it as a pocket EDC for about six months (kids gave it to me for Christmas) and so far I've been pretty impressed. My wallet is not so happy, however. ;) I've finally given up on the mishmash of different flashlights with different batteries I've had for years (gave the cheap ones to my kids/grandkids, moved the Surefire's to BOB duty). I'm now running multiple Polytac-X w/18650 for home duty and the 2L-X w/18650 for work.
I picked my Pro Tac up on a xmas sale and end of the year and or over at Primary Arms they have these and other similar lights on pretty good sales. I haven't tried olights yet but if they have the same warranty it would be hard not to switch for some uses. I still wouldn't cheap out on weapons lights or if you need it for serious work.
the hl version. (smaller of the 2) is my daily carry i paid around 100$ for it because my local gun shop didn't have it in stock so I had it ordered for an extra 15$ if I remember right. its the best flashlight I have ever owned fully worth the price. I plan on buying the bigger one eventually but as of now I've been carrying the smaller one for close to a year and it works as advised. I imaging if you shined it into an attackers eyes at night that it would effectively blind them long enough to preform a counter/pre emptive attack
There already have 18650 batteries with directly usb rechargeable, in general it better then usb rechargeable on flashlights, less space and no sealing problems with usb flashlights
That kind of hurt seeing that ultrafire battery going in there in 2018! Samsung 30Q's are about $7 from mtn electronics if you need some excellent 18650''s that won't catch fire randomly.
This light could almost compare to my Fenix FD-30, with the exception that the FD-30 can focus the beam's hotspot or completely remove it all together, which I use that feature frequently, as a "duty" light on a daily basis. Streamlight has come a long way in their light tech, and I have a handful of them as well. I am sporting my Micro-USB Coyote (250 lumen) which is perfect for EDC, when I don't need to carry the larger light, like of which you discussed here in this presentation. Buy Streamlight with confidence, these lights should fare well, and 850-1000 lumens can serve many roles, undoubtedly in such a small package.
They’ve had a high failure rate when dealing with recoil specifically because of the rechargeable circuitry. There’s somethings that are better with disposable batteries
The GAU-8 multi-barreled 30MM cannon that happens to have an airplane built around it. The gun system alone weighs just over 2 tons when fully loaded. It's almost 20 feet long and typically is loaded with 1,150 rounds. The AP rounds projectile weighs about 14.0 oz (395 grams or 6,096 grains). Rate of fire is 3,900 RPM. A typical strafing pass fires 200 rounds in about 2 seconds. Brrrrrrrrrrrrt!
I know this video has been out for a while but hoping someone sees this, what power adapter are you using to charge the HL? I just picked one up and used an Apple 12W 2.4A USB adapter and the LED never turned green. Left it charging for about 16 hours
You've got some of the most practical and useful product videos around, and I appreciate the effort you put into them. Thanks!
We are in the golden age of flashlights for sure
Thanks for the thoroughness with which you do your reviews. I'm sure I'm not the only one who really appreciates your attention to detail.

I carry the HL every day but I wear cargo shorts to work. Its enough to light up my neighborhood when I walk home at night.
Just got my streamlight pro Tac HL. Your video was the first to pop up! Very helpful.
You're so right that I was looking at these very two lights for essentially the same role. Thank you for helping me decide that I should probably just buy both, ha ha ha. I have issues.
Another great review Sir. Also i am a huge Streamlight fan and love my TLR-HL weapons light.
Thank you

Bob Haehn I’m looking into putting my PolyTac on my rifle and a X to carry.
Any chance they make pressure pads?

where do people purchase streamlights from?? Their website does not have an online store and amazon is severely outdated??
Hostile got mine from Midway or Cheaper Than Dirt get the X it's $10 more but rechargeable
thank you brother.
Thanks for the review. A size comparison with the 2L-X would have been nice,
This was an incredible review

But I already bought a 2L-X this year, do I need this? Maybe
SAME!! Lol
I've got the HL USB for home and camping. Great light!
thanks for the report

fair enough

18650 store. Com is good also
Did I miss where you mentioned lumen for each? I see it in the description, but not the video. Probably a better metric than candela.
the "better" metric depends on the use
Agreed.
Can you do a comparison on the stinger HPL and the tac5

His voice pierces my ears . Midrange crackle
LOVE the shirt!
Thank you
Mrgunsngear Channel I went ahead and purchased one for myself, along with a few other shirts. Thank you for the coupon code.
I want to see a mrgunsandgear EDC!
Duly noted
That 4k though!
Good to mount the HL USB on an AK? I have the Khyber Customs BC70 mount and need a light that's 1" in diameter (body) to fit
I love my pro tac hl-x, I have it in a odin works mount on my armalite. Programmed to be high only.
Can you review the klarus xt12gt flashlight and great vids man keep the great work up

Mr.Guns gear ur the best
Very informative, thanks
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,
But A-10s my number so BRRRRRT me maybe
Any switch plate end caps fit them?
"Frank, mrgunsngear is doing another light review, turn off the house lights!" Says your neighbors.
😁
Like your Shirt !!!! 😕
Thank you
That’s why I bought the Olight PL mini Valkyrie because it is rechargeable
They’ve had a high failure rate when dealing with recoil specifically because of the rechargeable circuitry. There’s somethings that are better with disposable batteries
I wish streamlight would offer a high medium low mode
fair enough
It does offer the low medium high and many of these lights don't offer all 3 settings. Doubles as a handwarmer in winter too ;)
The A-10 huh buddy...

.....I almost melted the sheath by accidentally turning it on while it's in the sheath. LoL oops!
😁
hog for the win!
Amen! Brrrrrrrrrt!

It's now 12Dec2020 and the Warthog is making a comeback, this time on a *_MEGADOSE_* of steroids!
Klarus XT-11GT
