This is the ONLY review I’ve found on this light. Thank you!!!
Isn't It because its a new model?
This light just came out a few weeks ago so of course no reviews yet.
Still no reviews of it. At least none I can find. Only ones I see are for the gun light 2.0, not this one or the head lamp.
I’m gonna get this joint, I love going on bike rides early af in the morning and I need something like this
My brother surprised me and gifted me one of these … I work security .. it’s a great tool. I’m going to buy slither one since Amazon now Carries them…
Nice light for sure.
However, after examining the specs I’m going to have to favor the Protac HLX. I think it’s a fair comparison. The HLX takes a rechargeable 18650 or 2 x cr123a’s, both of which are way more easy to find.
The HLX has half the lumens which is still a lot and a ton more candela. It’s also lighter in weight and easier to carry.
The two would make a great comparison video!
I agree. I already have the HLX and was gonna upgrade to this for more lumens but once I read about the specs and saw the lower candela and the unique battery I decided not to get it. This is also slightly bulkier than the HLX and like you said 1000 lumens is already a lot anyway
@@kenstirling5348 Yes!
Another very nice and easy edc consideration is the Protac 1L-1AA if you don’t already have one.
Totally different output but it’s got so many pluses.
I too carry the HLx. It's bright enough gorgeous any duty use inside or out. There is such a thing as too bright. Biggest is the battery. I have all kinds of 18650 Batts and don't want to switch to something proprietary. If disaster hits. ....you're stuck.
@@fsuboy75 Wow, I actually hadn’t realized it was a proprietary battery. That’s a good reason to get a couple extra just in case. By far I use my 1L-1AA so it’s unlikely I’ll burn out the 18650.
Less candela he'll no!! Get the 2.0
I luv my little Nano for my Keychain...still performing 10 years later!!! That is one huge battery, but I love its got the usb-c built-in to it!👍
- I honestly use my microstream usb more than any other light I own
@@Steve-Goff I need a recommendation on which flashlight offers more light at a greater distance because the one in the video does not convince me many
Thank you for this review. The high only mode is good for this light if you are going to be using it in a low light course and constantly turning it on an off rapidly. It prevents you from accidently switching into a lower mode.
Great review, and thank you because I was just about to buy the Protac 2.0. "Wow 2000 lumens!! "Then I watched your review and someone else's review and you both finally made me understand lumens vs candela. You both (and the comments) compared it to the HLX and the HLX does seem to be the better choice, even down to that battery 👍.
- I really like Streamlight and usually highly recommend them but the purple orb was a big letdown on this light
We just ordered for our grandson who is a Marine. Your video here helped us decide on this one. Anyway, we really appreciate the time and quality/honesty of your video here. Just awesome! Merry Christmas! By the way...if packed, that switch boot would be a good idea for sure~ Back the Blue
- TFW and commenting. May God protect your grandson and all service members. Merry Christmas
@@Steve-GoffI mean, I'm looking for a good clear light and great range and light distance. I think the Protac 2.0 will be the best option that range has its light outdoors. I'm looking for something to walk at night in the mountains, what do you recommend with all this information?
Nice review. I just bought a strion led hl and am now regretting it lol
Just ordered one, SL GANG
8:56 There is a good application for high only: If this is a dedicated tactical or duty light. In high stress situations, especially in the winter wearing gloves, it is very easy to inadvertently double tab that switch and get a strobe when you need light. There is plenty of body cam footage out there where this happens. I personally keep mine in the high only mode for this reason. I can do quick momentary light activations and never hit that strobe mode. So far on the Active Self Protection channel, I’ve only seen one successful use of the strobe function, and it was by a private citizen in a well lit room. The situation had not escalated to deadly force at that point. Frankly, just the high output of this light, with several momentary bursts would have had the same effect. On the flip side, there are countless instances caught on body cam where the strobe mode activated when it shouldn’t have, and the officer was then clicking through trying to get full light again. Unfortunately with the StreamLight, you do that too quick, and you end up with the lowest output.
Great review! I picked this up about 4 months ago and use it all the time. Pretty amazing light and matches the output of my Stinger 2020 on my duty belt in a tiny package!
- TFW and commenting. I definitely appreciate hearing your insight and feedback. I love the switch on the Stinger 2020. Wish Streamlight would make a Protac with it
Excellent review
Not bad I do see that imperfection you're talking about in the beam. I've been collecting for a while as you know but I do not own one streamlight. Happy holidays brother!!
- Happy Holidays to you and Kim as well. I have probably had close to 30 Streamlights

Great stuff brother
That size is a proprietary stream light number not a standard battery like a 21700 or 18650. I'm sure a replacement battery will cost a lot.
This seems okay for a handheld, but the WML version seems to be a step in the totally wrong direction. The lack of throw on this light is comparable to some of the older Surefire lights, and this thing is certainly left in the dust by newer lights with significantly better throw while still offering generous spill. I will say the one positive with the 2.0 WML is that it now uses a combination push button tailcap with what appears to be a crane plug. Here's hoping they use this tailcap on a light with better throw lol.
Depends, some people want spill and you're only choices is a crappy surefire or a pistol light.

I don't understand why so many people want to see what's going on a mile away. I want to see what's going on within reach. What I'm working on is more important than what the neighbor is working on. Why can't we just get a good bright flood light? I've been looking for 3 days straight now and everything has that silly beam in the center shining hundreds of feet away.
It’s a rebranded 21700 battery
One thing about streamlight they will replace their product if you have any issues with them. Good products for the money 👌🏿👍🏾
- I once lost a piece on a weapon light when going from a high switch to a low. Called them up and they replaced the entire switch for free.
UPDATE
If you’re not that interested in throw but you love brightness, the 2.0 is the way to go. At what most would consider relatively close distance the 2.0 is a ton brighter than the HL-X. The HL-X does however have about 10K more candela.
The 2.0 has a proprietary battery which is certainly frustrating and something to consider.
I would say if you are a casual user of this 2.0 flashlight, it’s not a big deal but if you use it for work constantly you probably should get yourself at least one additional proprietary battery. They are somewhat expensive in the $40 range but they are only going to go up in price so it might be good to get one or two if you’re going to be using them constantly. You don’t want to be concerned about to waiting charge it up.
Very solid quality flashlight, which is definitely not for everybody but it definitely is well suited for some!
- thanks for sharing your insight and experience with it. I have a ton of Streamlights and usually love them but did not care for the Protac 2.0. They actually sent me a 2nd one and it had the same purple orb
@@Steve-Goff Interesting!
I really enjoy the Protac 1L-1AA. They’re great.
At this point, I kind of think I’m moving on to maybe Thrunite or some others.
I’ll have to do some research.
I will still stay alert for any future Streamlight developments.
Very nice light from good o stream. B that Battery is a No factor. 18650s are a lot easier to find anywhere..
- yes. I agree. I don’t like proprietary stuff
Excellent review!!
@ a glance I thought it uses 21700 cells. I have been using Streamlight since 1992 when they were made in USA, Norristown., PA . It was the brightest Stinger halogen bulb @ that time!! I have owned over 500 LED lights & have lost count. My Fav to date are the Protac HL-X and the Protac 5 HL-X
I work in the Aerospace business where lighting is used daily and my hobbies are being in the woods. I was hoping Streamlight would upgrade their series of lighting to the larger 21700 batteries but it didn’t happen.
This Protac 2.0’wont work for me; one being the clip is not reversible and not baseball cap mountable when required and the battery is a proprietary meaning not interchangeable between my NITECORE headlamp HC-35 using the sleeve for battery, not interchangeable among Protac HL-X and the 5 HL-X.
I carry 6pc 18750 in a water proof case along with a NITECORE F5 for phone charging purpose to reduce weight in my 5-10 day adventures overseas operations.
Note: that clip lanyard hole is handy by placing a small stainless ring and linking it to a paracord snake knot to a life vest or backpack during adventures or night motor sport. To prevent losing it in case of tripping over a trail or boat flipping over as it’s linked to your life vest in the dark, you get the drift?
Yah, Streamlight engineer please upgrade the older lights with 21700 capacity!! Then you will gain even more fans & customers in the coming years as King of Lighting!!!
- TFW and commenting. I’ve been buying Streamlights for a long time as well. I probably have over 30. I carry a Microstream USB and use it for most tasks. I definitely don’t care for the proprietary batteries.

@@lenin1881 There is no one perfect light. I like one battery fleet that fuels same manufacture. If my life depended on a light; it be Streamlight. I have dropping them 50ft off the tail of a commercial airliner and it still works. Streamlight has a great warranty too for parts replacement. For brightness try reviewing the Pro Tac HL5; best for the money and uses 2 pc of the 18650 battery.
The light is not very balanced and is head heavy.
Take my money!
Too bad a standard 21700 battery won't work.
So this or the 2020 stinger? Which one is the better option.
- I’ve had both and would pick the 2020 Stinger. The purple hue is awful on the ProTac 2.0
I don't like that lag when you pushed the button.
Are you able to do any size comparisons to the HLX or others in that size range?
- the dimensions are comparable to a lot of 21700 lights. Very similar to the Fenix C7
Did Streamlight ever send you a other flashlight to see if that blue/purple thing in the middle of the beam
- they did send me another. The replacement is better but still noticeable.
The candela is disappointing for the amount of lumens. Combine that with a proprietary battery only and overly sensitive tailcap makes this a no go for me.
I like Streamlight a lot and wanted to be excited but couldn't for the price.
Does this have a front spring in the battery well? Or just a contact?
- it’s the contacts where the positive & negative drop into
Would you recommend this, the HLX, or the Klarus GL4?
- I’ve had all 3 and I’d pick the HLX. I did a review on the GL4 about a year ago - th-cam.com/video/060Jv5TnkYk/w-d-xo.html
👍
Is this about the same size/length as the protac hlx 1k lumen? I pocket it daily and I like the floodier pattern on this one. Even though it's 10k less candela. Thanks
The 2.0 is definitely longer than the hlx. Probably by a half inch or more. It also weighs more
Did they upgrade the finish on the light? I've found Streamlight wears and scratches very easily
- the anodization seems very durable on this model
Does this heat up after time? My current Surefire 6p gets so hot I can barely hold it.
- the body doesn’t get too hot. You can definitely hold on to it. The head does get pretty warm when on the highest setting for a few minutes
how is the heat on the highest mode ? is it got hot running higher mode constantly ?
- yes. It definitely gets hot on the highest setting. Not too hot to hold but definitely very warm.
What's the candella difference between the protac hl-x and this?
HL-X is 27,100 candela and the Protac 2.0 is 17,300. The HL-X has a tighter hotspot
@@Steve-Goff Wow, that's actually a HUGE difference! That's what I loved about my hl-x was that it has amazing spill and a acceptable Hotspot to comfortably push out to 200 yards for litteraly 1/4th the price of like a surefire / modlight / cloud defensive rein. I'm curious if the extra 1k of lumen helps with the lesser candella any or if it's all added to the spill. I can see this new version being a great handheld system but with the added weight and bulk seems like a step backwards for the tactical rifle aspect. Thanks for replying and making the video!
What is the larger one you have in front? Looks like a nice one
- Streamlight HL 5-X. I’ve had it few years but it’s still one of my favorites
Why would they make a flashlight that only takes a proprietary battery…
- lots of companies do that now. It’s a negative IMO especially when they’re $30 per battery
Olight also, some of then don’t accept Nitecore batteries.
I like it but not enough to pay over $100 for.
- it has some quirks but the price is comparable to Olight, Fenix, etc.
