The one thing that surprised me to hear about this monitor is that there is so little bandwidth left from the Thunderbolt connection after dealing with the 6k screen that the USB hub on the back of it is limited to USB 2.0 speeds.
I love these monitors. I bought my Pro Display XDR with the Pro Stand in 2020 and it was one of the best purchasing decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve long said if I had to save one (non partner or pet) thing in my home in a fire, it would be my Pro Display XDR.
I went with dual Apple 5K Studio Displays. I work in Finance and Film. They are luscious. They also go super bright. We are alike sturdy design matters significantly to me too.
Just bought this new from Apple 2 months ago. It's well worth it today for more reasons than you list in your video. If productivity goes up, it doesn't matter if the display was made 4 years ago. Nice video
This... I purchased new from apple in December. I use it for my photography business. I make money on it. Sure it's expensive but it's a tool that I use every day. Only professionals and people with lot's of money to burn should buy this. Also, I don't care that it's 60hz. The point is color, dynamic range, and clarity.
I think in the future, as OLED replaces LCD on consumer displays, we'll look back on this monitor as one of the best LCD displays ever created. Insane color accuracy, contrast, brightness, true 10-bit color depth, it has everything that you could ask for from an LCD monitor. The 60Hz refresh rate will probably be the worst aging part of it, but if you just want great picture quality for content consumption and creation, I would assume it won't age terribly badly in the future.
at this point in 2024 I will just wait for the new model prices should drop then, Currently have two of them new cost me $14,000 but that was back in 2020
It’s definitely overdue a spec bump to 120hz, more dimming zones and what not. Same with the studio display, how are they selling a 60hz non HDR screen for that amount Or will Apple just push Vision Pro or a stripped down version in future as their desktop display tech
I'd guess that they will give it the same tandem OLED screen technology as the new iPad Pro, and use the new thunderbolt 5 specification for 120hz refreshrates.
Thunderbolt currently doesn’t have any standard which can support that bandwidth. Maybe two Thunderbolt connected simultaneously and all of that processed for a fast refresh rate and 120hz. It’s going to be nuts. Very do-able, but expensive and they won’t go with the 2 thunderbolt idea. So currently, no pc or mac will be able to use the 6k120hz because of the bandwidth limitation.

9:50. I can relate to these cleaning procedures. My current monitor (innocn 27m2v) also has a matte coating. HOWEVER, you can also use any reasonable quality camera microfiber cloth. My favorite one is the Cameron extra large microfiber cloth which is a little bit larger than apples polishing cloth and is very thick and easy to grip and use. Lens cleaning solutions are also great for usage on these types of monitors, for example eyeglass cleaning solutions, they have never failed on either my laptops or monitors matte coatings. Unfortunately as good as these monitors are though, pro display XDR doesn't work well with other operating systems, but I think that's one of the subjectivities of this monitor. That would certainly be quite a sight to behold. I'd bet if they refreshed this monitor (pun not intended) that the used market for the existing pro display XDR would get a lot better and prices would drop. So people should keep an eye out for that too.

I wouldn't buy it new; it's not worth the price difference for my productivity work compared to the studio display, but if I were to find another second-hand one with more warranty, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.
unless its glass its generally not a good idea to use alcohol on a monitor. 70 percent is okay but really all you need is a really nice quality microfiber and, at most, water.
This and the Studio display are both amazing (I have 2 studio displays with height adjust). Wish apple would put a webcam and speakers in the pro display.
Awesome video and thanks a lot. I'm considering one myself. Question, the iPhone desk stand with magsafe you have - can you share more information about this?
great review! don't you find pro stand's minimal height position still to high? would expect the stand to allow to move bottom edge to very table level, hate to have to stick with vesa arm for this reason
Why not just get the newer 32" 4K OLEDs around ~$1100 or even the 4K mini LED ones that get much brighter? You paid nearly 300% more for a USED 6k and slower refresh rate monitor with holes on its back.
for a reference monitor high refresh rate is not necessary. this isn't aimed at content consumption or gaming, but for professional grade photo and video work.
I don't think that the display shows aging at all. Except of the pro motion, I bet you don't even use its full resolution (It defaults to half you need to manually enable it in the settings). It is a timeless monitor. I got one for about 4 years now and I still love it the same as the day I bought it. I also prefer it from my LG C1 for HDR content. There is something organic in the image of this monitor that can't get achieved by the C1.
This is pretty deceptive. You always use the "full resolution". It's just that by utilizing 2 pixels (2x scale), you can get better clarity. Plus, it makes it more legible. 6K would be very difficult to use at a 1x scale.
I have owned and daily use a pair of these with Nano-texture glass since they were launched. Close to top of the list of features for me is the One Thunderbolt 3 (USB‑C) port and three USB‑C ports on the rear of the display. I would have prefer all to be Thunderbolt 3 or 4 now. I did buy one with a stand and the other is on a vesa mount and arm. I like the monitor's colour management options. I do not game but do use them for editing photos and videos. THe HDR capability rec 2020 equivalence is great. I had a flight case made for one ProDisplay XDR and its stand and this helped while I was on long term assignment. I have no view on the Apple Studio display. I have large top spec large EIZO monitors and the earlier large (but smaller than XDR) LG 4k monitors but the lack of built in features in these mean they sit off the the side and rarely used. I use the ProDisplay XDR with a MacStudio Ultra and M2 16" MBP (when in the field) - these displays work seamlessly with these sources.
But who is it for? You would not want a 6K display, as a monitor for 4K video color monitoring and the display isn't even color accurate. So left is photographers, if they don't care about color accuracy too much. If you want a higher resolution, Asus is coming out with an 8K ProArt this summer.
It needs to be oled. But where the industry is at right now, i'd give it at least 5 more years. Apple's barely adding oled to their ipads and macbooks.
Why did you move from the LG C2 to this? Let alone the studio display which is an ancient display and costs more. I'm curious what you didn't like about the C2, you didn't mention.
I really liked it, but the TV-ness of it got old after a while. If it was a proper monitor I'd probably still be using it. Plus the size and 4K resolution made my setup a little bigger than I wanted since I needed to have it further away. Still a great option. Might go back and make a video on it.
Creatives should save money on the matte coating, matte coatings objectively deteriorate image quality. It's essentially a 'pro mist' filter applied permanently to your image. It raises black levels, it reduces sharpness, contrast and saturation. There's a reason no phone, no tv and no macbook or high end laptop comes with a matte display coating.
I personally am using 2x 32 inch displays and the specs are very basic so I was looking to upgrade my monitor to a way nicer one made for gaming. this my research monitors and eventually it led me to think about what I used to Apple Pro XDR displays as my main monitors because it was hard finding a high resolution 32 inch monitor that looked nice. like descended cool AF but then I looked at the price and $5000 plus $1000 for a stand and if I got 2 it would be $12,000 in total. Then you would have to add on AppleCare which is like $500 for one and you have two of them so it’s $1000 in total so the total cost is $13,000. That is a whole car down payment like you could probably afford a whole car back then with this much money. So needless to say, I might not be buying one anytime soon.😂
Rumors of updated displays already starting 😂 probably by next year. Probably because of thunderbolt 5 display improvements and bandwidth. Current displays don’t have enough bandwidth for 120 5k 6k
Your financial decisions today may seem expensive. However, you buy Apple because they are cutting edge quality and usually ahead. The costs need to be thought out into the future as videos/digital images... artwork film making will all require larger storage for screening and having the M4 studio 'maxed' with this monitor, and you're talking 10 years of awesomeness ❤ Then because you're the kind that keeps things nice will trade in this for a entirely new upgraded to modernity and you'll spend more then.😎

In 2025, I will be buying a new or used Apple 32-inch XDR display to pair with my first M-1/or M-2 "Mac Studio" or "mac mini" pro model. Afterward, I will add a 4K web camera and a set of nice external speakers (smile...smile).
Screen at a price of $6K is not worth it in 2024. If you just want it and buy it, that's a different story, but there are many monitors that can give you the same picture quality for a lot less money. Nice video thanks for sharing.
I have the Pro Display XDR (standard glass) and I'm struggling because I need another display but I'm so spoiled by having this one. I'd consider getting a second one, but it also feels like an update is possible.
I don't mean to make you feel bad about your purchase, and I'm happy that it works great for you. This display is mostly for those people who are super rich and simply like the aesthetic, it is objectively a bad deal price wise, you can buy an m3 max macbook pro with 2tb of storage for this money and STILL have a display with better technology than this (albeit smaller.) Or even you can buy an m3 max macbook pro with 1tb of storage and a 42 inch 4k 120hz LG OLED 10bit native display which blows this out of the water tech wise, so two better displays and a computer and you're still under budget of a new one of these and bang on with a used one.

Perfect I’ll be on the lookout for people who sold it for half the price like you😂
You should bought it for half of its price
Thanks for answering the premise outright from the beginning of the video.
its funny that 6 years later there is still no other 6k monitors 32inch out there. I dont even know why, is it that hard to make?
Until production costs come down enough, it's a hard sell to build a 6K monitor for a niche market. That's why there are so few options.
But who is it for? You would not want a 6K display, as a monitor for 4K video color monitoring and the display isn't even color accurate.
So left is photographers, if they don't care about color accuracy too much.
If you want a higher resolution, Asus is coming out with an 8K ProArt this summer.
There is one. Obviously it’s a lot cheaper both in money and its physical presentation.
6K is not a standard. Next step would be a 8K, not 6K. And we don't need it. No one can even see pixels on a 32" 4K.
I wish I did not watch your video. What you said makes perfect sense. Now, I will wait for the new version. 😊
as a pro fine art printer I have one since 12/24 not sure how the brightness has helped me ( Eizo is doing it for much less )
I have only one reason not to buy this, and it’s enough. THE PRICE
It needs to be oled. But where the industry is at right now, i'd give it at least 5 more years. Apple's barely adding oled to their ipads and macbooks.
what is that flat black cover connected to power cable??
Great video! Where i can get that red glass cup?
I'm waiting for Apple to refresh Pro display and Mac Pro desktop.
Arent they good enough as is?
Can i run windows pc ? Or is it just mac?
no speakers , web cam
The design is awesome !!!!
It's garbage.
just wish they come out with a new model...
have been waiting for 2 years now...
also agreed 32 is perfect - can't wait to deprecate my 27 studio display
Why would you need a new model?
Need something like this at $2k with ProMotion.
Yeah $7200 is a bad financial decision. 😂 Good to see a video of yours in my feed Matt, hope you are doing well!
As HDTVTest said;
This display is at best a monitor for a divorced lawyer. It's simply not color accurate, for professional work.
"no tv"
Not any more. Top Samsung QD-OLED tv for 2024 are going the matte direction S95D
@@83442handleYeah it's mind boggling how samsung is able to handicap its own products like that lol.
Ita like 12k Aud with the stand 😂 wtf for colour accuracy?
I like you man.
There's something special about you.
YOu just earned a sub
The costs need to be thought out into the future as videos/digital images... artwork film making will all require larger storage for screening and having the M4 studio 'maxed' with this monitor, and you're talking 10 years of awesomeness ❤ Then because you're the kind that keeps things nice will trade in this for a entirely new upgraded to modernity and you'll spend more then.😎
The inside of an Apple display, is no different from any other good display.
Are you going to pick up a s24 ultra for the Channel?
Possibly. Definitely plan on covering more non Apple stuff though.
@@mattgonzalez looks like a great phone I’m getting one in a few days went with the black titanium 512g unlocked
I WOULD IF I COULD !!
"YOU SHOULD BUY IT". IF YOU ARE NOT MARRIED AND CAN SELL A KIDNEY!!! And That Without A STAND! Come On Apple! Let Us Little Steven Spielbergs Play With The Other Reindeer!
I agree but my bank says I have 4,599 reasons why I can't
Give us half of its price only and we buy it
I could probably buy like a 75 inch 4K UHD Sony Bravia for the price of this monitor…..
@@burntoutpremed9789 probably bigger
In 2025, I will be buying a new or used Apple 32-inch XDR display to pair with my first M-1/or M-2 "Mac Studio" or "mac mini" pro model. Afterward, I will add a 4K web camera and a set of nice external speakers (smile...smile).
I got my nano texture with stand for $4,000
Screen at a price of $6K is not worth it in 2024. If you just want it and buy it, that's a different story, but there are many monitors that can give you the same picture quality for a lot less money. Nice video thanks for sharing.
Not true. Tell me just one alternative please. With glossy screen.
@@cinqo7Glossy is only great in a very dark room.
I would never get it with Nanotech
I have the Pro Display XDR (standard glass) and I'm struggling because I need another display but I'm so spoiled by having this one. I'd consider getting a second one, but it also feels like an update is possible.
Get an oled
Hahha love the intro Matt :)
I really like this video.
An absolute waste of money. Just having to pay 1000$ for the stand is ridiculous. And I speak from experience: I had it! and doesn't worth it.
Not until it is a sensible £2500
Love me some apple stuff but nope. Happy with my Samsung and LG monitors.
It needs Oled & ProMotion. End
if i where a richman
Lol someone using tv as monitor upgraded to pro display xdr😂😂😂
the nano sucks, I prefer glossy
I wish it really did suck for that price. Joking aside, I agree that glossy is nicer.
6000 dola make no sense at all This ain’t matter
Ok, you sold me! I’m not buying it. Good review tho and view points
Just get a LG 4k 32 inch for £700
Moore Lisa Hernandez Barbara Lopez Daniel
I don't mean to make you feel bad about your purchase, and I'm happy that it works great for you.
This display is mostly for those people who are super rich and simply like the aesthetic, it is objectively a bad deal price wise, you can buy an m3 max macbook pro with 2tb of storage for this money and STILL have a display with better technology than this (albeit smaller.)
Or even you can buy an m3 max macbook pro with 1tb of storage and a 42 inch 4k 120hz LG OLED 10bit native display which blows this out of the water tech wise, so two better displays and a computer and you're still under budget of a new one of these and bang on with a used one.
Oh absolutely. It's a dumb purchase.
theres so many mini led monitor today with 1156zone doble de dimming zone of xdr display and even oled
Do they also have 6k and a nano coated surface?
Who needs 6K and for what?!
@@akyhne once you‘re used to retina screens like the 5k on a Aplle studio monitor, 4k looks grainy and coarse, even at 27“, let alone larger screens like 32“. More is just better here.
@@bernios3446 I asked who this is for! You can't use it for pro video color grading. It's not even close to being good enough.
It's a content consumer monitor, nothing else. And a proper Oled TV is better at this.
@@akyhne Great, so buy that TV... I am very (!) happy with the studio monitor, doing photo editing all the time.
And it’s all metal and glass! Everything else is plastic.
Would if Promotion.
Can you sell me yours? And you buy a new one 😂
