  • The NEW CX-5 has some changes and Mazda wanted to continue the Carbon Edition for 2022. On the outside you will notice a new front fascia, LED lighting, new gloss black wheels, headlight & taillight housings, and rear bumper. On the inside there is an 8.8in infotainment screen, red seating material, and leather wrapped steering wheel. Under the hood is a 2.5L inline-4 that produces 187HP & is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with AWD. Is the NEW 2022 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition a better SUV than a Honda CR-V?

I have a 2022 CX5. Idk why people think the non touch screen is a negative. I personally love the knob and not getting fingerprints on the screen. It also makes using the interface less distracting since I dont have to reach forward to touch the display, my palm lands right on the knob. I love it

@@POSS99 yeah you must’ve been in the lowest engine spec against the best engine of the forester even than those things are known to be slow af. Idk seems like a fanboy and hater of Mazda. I have both and can safely say Mazda is far superior. Especially reliability. Mazda CX-5 is driven by my wife. Like it was stolen. Barely finishes stopping after going in reverse before she flips it in forward gear. Surprised the trans isn’t slipping yet. First model year as well. My forester is in a junk yard as it died last year from a blown engine. Going down the highway damn thing could never get out of its own way. I hated the Mazda at first after a month of ownership it was far far superior to the sub or anything they make. Toyota though yeah they nice af. But their new exterior look is lacking. Just went car shopping with a friend today. She was leaning towards the Rav4 or CR-V. The Toyota dealership wouldn't even work with her so I suggested taking a look at the CX5. She took a test drive in a turbo model and said she didn't want to bother looking at the Honda. She said that the handling and braking felt very natural plus it had all the safety features she wanted. A sale is in the process and I got a free lunch for directing her to Mazda which wasn't on her list when we set out this morning.

Just my opinion regarding the infotainment is that is much better to use the control knob. Reaching the screen when driving is much more cumbersome and is less safe when driving. It all has to do with getting used to it. When you do, that will give you muscle memory and it is really quick to operate

My wife drives the non-turbo 2021 Grand Touring CX5. I just purchased a 2022 CX5 Signature. There are some differences: The turbo + the new suspension + the new transmission tweak + supreme gas (more HP and Torque) = a super amazing driving experience...BUT...and this is VERY IMPORTANT...the OEM tires that come with the SUV are terrible. Best to add $800 to purchase good tires to REALLY made the ride rich. We replaced the OEM tires with Vredstein Quatrac pro and what a difference. Better handling and much better on wet roads. And less rolling resistance. Tires truly do make a difference in the driving experience. JOE: As always, GREAT review. LORI: As always, you make Joe look fantastic...your camera angles and positions are professional. Suffice to say, without Lori's keen eye, Joe's reviews would just be average. Cheers!

Absolutely love the CX5 and the red guts that come with the Carbon. Top of my list, even though the CRV and Forester have more space and get better MPG, these Carbons catch my eye and break my neck every time I see one - top tier styling and fit too. Always appreciate your reviews!

Also, I cant believe but is better on gas than the 3... I think if for the way that works the transmission on the CX-5, is absolute better the shifts on this one. ... I pick up my 2022 CX-5 Carbon tomorrow. It has the black leather seats with red stitching and the Bose stereo. Test drove it on an Ohio snow belt snow day and was more than impressed by the handling and performance, as well as the comfort. It will be replacing a 2021 Outback that got totalled in a hit/skip crash. I was going to replace with another Outback but they are so hard to get at the moment with no stock. My Subaru dealer asked me to try out the CX-5 which just happened to be a Carbon and i told him I would take it on the spot. Infotainment system made sense and looked easy to use and no finger prints on the screen. I think i prefer the black seats to the red.

I just bought a 2024 CX-5 Carbon Edition. I chose this trim because it was the only one at the dealership near me that came with a hitch for my mountain bike. Plus, for 2024, Mazda included the Bose audio system in this model for an MSRP of $34,411. I considered the CX-50, but it was more expensive, and I felt cramped in the headspace. Plus, it's made in Alabama, whereas the CX-5 is made in Japan. I also checked out the competition, but at $34K, none of them met my needs. So, for me, it's Mazda for the win. By the way, this is my first Mazda. I've previously owned a couple of KIAs and a Hyundai, all in the $32K-$35K price range, and I've noticed a huge difference in quality, inside and out, as well as handling, comfort, and incredibly low cabin noise. On the other hand, the Bose audio system in the Hyundai was better than Mazda's. I hope to enjoy this Mazda; so far, I love it. I live in New Jersey, where the roads are teeming with this exact CX-5 Carbon Edition.

I love the CX5, I own a 2016 GT model, my only problem with it is in the winter time when it goes below -5 my screen gets wonky. It goes on and off and it gets harder to actually use my bluetooth phone through the system. I also notice due to computer parts my whole car malfunctions which makes the car have problems that acts up every so often instead of a regular car. I feel they need to fix areas where computer is used to keep it at a temperature that will help the car to function in any weather, also that all parts where wiring is that ita properly covered so it does not shortage and make the car go haywire when trying to drive in the winter weather. I also notice that putting in windshield fluid even when it says it's good up to -50 weather it does not work half the time in the winter which can be dangerous when you need to make sure your windshield is clear to see. Will 2022 cars be good for Manitoba, Northeren Ontario, and other areas when temperatures are well below -40 weather?

I’m so glad I bought the 21 CE turbo instead of this. Significantly cheaper and upgraded speakers. But glad they’re keeping the CE. Such an awesome look! Joe, worth mentioning the Mazda connect. An app on your phone that can start, stop, lock, unlock your car from anywhere. Maybe others have it too that I never hear about?

They did a great job on the exterior especially with the carbon edition, but so far no one has a more original interior than the Buick Envision, and add the ST package, it's still my top pick for the upcoming months. I keep looking for something to beat it, so keep bringing these reviews Joe!😁. Try the 2022 Chevy Equinox RS when you can!

    • @PatrickJTezak

@@nytemare3421 I used to think that but times have changed. I'm sure both are reliable but according to J.D. Power vehicle reliability study, Buick is #5 on the list and Mazda is #14... Buick has stepped up their game in the last few years so I honestly would trust either vehicle.
