"You Don't Mess Around With Jim" was originally recorded and released by Jim Croce in 1972. If you don't know, you better ask somebody. The song tells of a tough but not-too-smart pool hustler by the name of "Big Jim Walker" who gets what's comin' to him by Willie "Slim" McCoy. The song was a hit for Jim Croce and led to the follow up "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown". I personally love the original song for the story telling and harmony, but the scatting Jim does at the end of each chorus is just the cherry on top. Bah doh doo da da deet dee dee deet dee. Thanks for watching!

It's great that Geoff has four twin brothers and they can sing in chorus 😂😂😂
And they're all so handsome!
Yeah, but 3 of them are SUPER annoying.
@@GeoffCastellucci only 3?
@GeoffCastellucci I'm sure they are, but as you're the eldest it's your job to keep them in line. 😉😂
@@shelleeroe yes geoff 2, geoff 3 and geoff 5 are annoying, but geoff and geoff 4 is pretty cool dudes.
I’m thinking Geoff had a secrecy cloning facility
"I'm Geoff Castellucci, a simple guy..." he says in the description. But let me tell you this one has it all! Plus he keeps outoing himself! I bow to you, Mr. Castellucci.
Dang it! Now I want to hear him sing Simple Man. 😁
His Spotify description is (and has been) “Secretly a fire truck by night” and that was largely the reason I started following him. The humor and talent are why I keep following him
That was great ❤ Love the dog, too 😅
Lemme tell you brother, Lemme tell you! About Geoff.
There is nothing simple about you, sir
Closed Captions: "(dominant music)"
Me: "Accurate"
I thought the same thing
Oh yesss, it's not just the music. I'm looking at those arms 👀
=)))))))))
I would love to believe that somewhere Jim Croce is smiling, smoking on a cigar, propped up on a stool behind his guitar and smiling at Geoff for this rendition. RIP Mr. Croce, we surely miss you! Great one, Geoff.
Indeed!😊
I'm fondly remembering all of Jim Croce's songs that I loved so much as a teen. Lover's Cross was a particular favorite to sing and play. I'm so grateful Geoff decided to refresh his legacy. What an amazing songwriter Jim was.
Oh, he'd LOVE this one for sure!
how the living F is Jim Croce not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
But in all likelihood, Jim Croce is in a rubber suit, rubbin’ these cars.
This one in black undershirt has the best voice
Ha!
@Lowlife856 left one or right one?
I disagree. I like the one in the black tank shirt the best. 😂
I honestly prefer the one with long hair
No, I think it's the guy left from him...
Give Geoff any dusty old song... Geoff adds his voice to spice up the wonder with depths and heights and perfect harmony and a big dose of freshness... and you've got another masterpiece!
He does all this with such easy confidence as if there was no hard work behind it.
I'll never get tired of Geoff dusting off the old tunes! 🔥🎶💙
Hey be nice I’m that old to remember it when the song was new. lol
This song came out when I was 11. Loved it then. Love it now, especially with Geoff's treatment!
Dusty old song? CLASSIC old song!
Абсолютно верно!!!
Thanks!
Sir! SIR!!!! The arms!! The bass!! The harmonies! You sir need an award of some type
Agreeded
Totally AGREEEEE
He IS an award of some type. And those of us who get to watch and listen are the winners.
@@jenerhart7025 very true
Not sure there is one that cover all those categories.
I'm a new listener of your sound don't know how I missed you but you're fantastic. I have to share your sound with others
I only randomly found him 5 months ago and I've been having a great time going through his back catalog and that of VoicePlay, his a capella group. Really amazing vocals -- have fun!
I swear this man could be singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and he'll still find a way to slip in a "Come on!" in there, somehow. :D
You must admit that it’s fun waiting for that “come on.”
Very first album I ever bought back in the day was "Photographs and Memories"... I think Jim Croce would have wholeheartedly approved of this cover.
Oh WOW! That was absolutely fantastic!!
Geoff’s voice is like wine. It keeps getting better with age.
I'm not convinced he ages.
The older the violin, the sweeter the music!
How about saying "It gets better with time"? Not to mention hard work and practice, practice, practice!
You know you have to brace yourselves when it's tank top 5 Geoff Squad 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Or fan yourself.
Amen
I swear the older he gets, the better looking he gets!
Ain't that the truth~ about choked when I saw him~ damg
Hrs so hot
"Well she's dead, Jim." Ya done did me in with your Bass. When I thought you couldn't hold that low note any longer, you done did it again....even lower. Your breath control is definitely legendary and your bass the 8th wonder of the world. Don't mind me as I sit quietly in my corner and listen to this on loop forever.
TOTALEMENT D'ACCORD AVEC VOUS !!! Amicalement, NELLY, BELGIQUE. 😊
I so wish my dad were still here so I could share this with him. He loved this song.
Ditto!
Another ditto here.
I remember listening to this song with my dad, along with many others Sir Geoff has dusted off and redone. Wish I could share them with him.
You are great...keep up with hat God gave you as a blessing..I hope you make lots of money since that's what this world is about ...truth hurts ....I do enjoy your voice...
Advise...just pick the right woman that appreciates you for what you are
The animating energy in a human never dies, just changes shape... You can share things with those no longer in their temporary physical vehicle through an open, coherent heart. When you relieve the (particularly happy) memories, that rush of emotion is a filament,if you will. Connection .
...
My comments are never as good on songs that I really, really like 🤣 It’s so much harder to be pithy when you’re flailing around like Kermit going full muppet from sheer glee.
I’ve been dreaming of this one since I saw your cover of Big Bad John. Seriously, thank you!
MUPPET PANIC!
Обалденный товарищ, просто неимоверный!
Всем товарищам товарищ! 👍🏻
That voice though. can never get enough 🥰😍🤩
The bull's-eye
It's amazing how Geoff keeps his bass voice while retaining Jim Croce's original key.
What key is in? Very smart, Geoff. 🥹
Fabulous! You are a one-man orchestra! I swear it sounded like several different people were singing! And long hair suits you very well. You are an impressive person!
Великолепно!!!👌👌👌👍👍👍
Don't mess around with Jim? Don't mess around with Geoff. I was just getting used to four, now there is five! My heart and ears can't take much more. Where do I send my medical bills to? Because if I keep listening to this gentle giant, I will need to seek medical advice. Oh Geoff you hurt so good!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Im not messing with him...just know nothing lasts long...we all get old..lso I encourage him to get it while he can
It's like the guys from Sixteen Tons grew up and got scarier. Probably because Daryl joined them. You don't mess around with Daryl.
NEVER mess around with Daryl!
And the guy from Sixteen Tons is one of the survivors that Big John saved.
This thread just makes me happy. The LORE
Daryl’s the man. Period.
@@GeoffCastellucciOMG Geoff, you keep getting better & better. How is that even possible ? Be still my heart ❤
Ты потрясающий,просто лучший в таком формате. Впечатляюще! Очень круто. Отличная работа.

I couldn't have 'typed' (said) it better myself
It doesn't matter how many times I see you guysl and listen to you, I am always impressed all over again! Your attacks and timing are flawless!
Fantastic!!!!! Unbelievable voice!
Hey Geoff! Would you be able to do a cover on Scarborough Fair? I’m really curious what the song would sound like with your bass and all that!
Как классно поёт!!!👏👏👏👏⚘️⚘️⚘️⚘️
No, I would never mess around with anyone with a voice like that. 🎶👀
😅
It’s all four Geoff’s! Including Daryl. We got Geoff, Daryl, Goff, Jeff, and Jeoph.
This is AMAZING ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Geoff is an amazing singer, I love his voice and videos!

Gods I miss Jim Croce. He was an artist.
Indeed, he was. “Operator,” “Time in a Bottle,” “I’ll Have to Say ‘I Love You’ in a Song….”
@@markbelcher2972 ..and don't forget he was also "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"!!
Yes.
Wonderful. Thank you
Hardest test for my new headset Low Bass Singer Geoff. Passed the test and could now hear every note, even the deepest ones, which I couldn't hear so well with the old ones. 👍
That is awesome
What a voice.
Me: How many octaves do you cover?
Geoff: All of them.
👍👍👍
👍👍👍
Точно ,Ваш голос уникален!!! Но,,16 тонн" - это невероятное великолепие !!! ❤❤❤
Agreed
Да, мне тоже это нравится. Все они на самом деле.
Wow such harmonies, depth of low notes, great hair and biceps for days Kathy sure is a very lucky woman to be sure ❤❤❤❤❤
Some women have it all.
Yay, another song from Geoff! I'm beside myself with joy!
(So is Geoff, apparently.)
💪😃💪😃💪😃💪😃💪😃
I love your cleverly veiled humor. This definitely deserves more likes.
“Beside myself”…😂🤣🤭Good one, Gretchen. (You are clever and also witty!😊)
I remember exactly where I was when I heard Jim Croce had died. What a huge loss that is still for all of us.
Thanks Geoff for doing this song!
"Time in a Bottle" was our song (my beloved hubby of 38 years and mine). We would dance to it whenever it played on the radio. He would always "dip" me at the end of it. I sang it to him as he lay dying in hospice and I think he heard me. Can't hear it to this day, 14 years later, without bursting in tears. Life is filled with tragic losses.

Love this song and this is a brilliant rendition 🏆🥇♥️
I fell in love with your songs, mostly, your uniqueness...🎉
Every time you go, Bass gives me goosebumps!
My Dad used to sing this song when I was little. I've never been more excited for a Geoff Castellucci cover.
@@einsteinjet hihetlen, mert én csak magyarul tudok.
This one's a total bop! 🥰🥰
Without being, you know, too boppy...which is quite the achievement!
@@patriciaschuman4205 the right amount of bop!
at minut 2:21 Geoff does this thing where he starts the vers very low and moves up and combined with the dance moves it's one of the coolest parts I've ever heard. Amazing!
Yeah, I was waiting for one of the Geoffs to resolve that low note, and then he did, and then I melted into a puddle on the floor!
As a music teacher, I really appreciate how Geoff and the Geoff's cover songs that I have never heard before. I do the research and go teach them to my students! The songs that Geoff chooses are a completely different style than what students are listening to now. They are more thought-provoking.
I've had many students. Tell me that they really enjoy the material!
Do you also teach your students the originals? It would be a great way for them to realize that music from their (grand)parents' generation can be great?
Jim Croce was my idol back in the 70's; thank you for keeping Jim's memory and music alive 💜💙💚
Mine too!!
nobody else wants to go 'awwwww' over the adorable golden dog? because awwwww, so cute!
сногсшибательный мужчина ;)
Да, аж камера дрожит.
Sitting here with tears in my eyes picturing my dad's reaction to this. As with so many of the older songs you cover,he loved this one. Thank you for keeping these songs alive.
When it comes to dusting off old tunes and making them exciting and fresh and new, you don’t mess around with Geoff. 💪🏻
Once again, Geoff, you’ve blown me away with your arrangement. I’ll never tire of you surprising me with a minor chord when I was expecting a major (and don’t even get me started on your love of minor 7 chords 😍). ‘Man of Constant Sorrow’ better watch its back - we may have a new contender for favourite song.
Brilliant cover of this classic song -- well done, Geoff!
Omg, now 5 Geoff's, that's too much!🙈 One of them is enough for me...😂🤩🫶 Geoff is just cool, I like this "Mm.. Mm.. Mm" 👍
Unglaublich, wie kann Mann nur so gut aussehen und dann auch noch so eine Stimme haben? Jedes Video ist ein neues Highlight. Viele Grüße aus Berlin Germany
I'm from Canada, not Germany, but I wholeheartedly agree.
Geoff has made my life better again. Thank you).✨💖✨✨
This guy is a gorgeous man through and through.❤❤❤
How the hell does Geoff get better and better! There has to be some upper limit or the universe will implode.
I gotta say, the camera shake effect timed with the bass parts just makes it 100 times better :)
Oh I don't think I've ever heard his voice when it's not been Uber low... He has a really nice range and a gorgeous voice no matter what note he sings in
I am endless and forever grateful that you caption your videos so well
I swear, every time he has to hit that low gravelly growl... he has WAY too much fun with it, and I love it! I swear can see it in his eyes.
Geoff My wife and I really enjoy your music and videos !
You made my day Geoff! Infinite loop for coding! Thanks again! Keep up the divine work!
Джеффа не может быть много, обожаю такие видео. Будь счастлив, красавчик .
Very, very nicely done....beautiful and tight.....thanks for sharing, sir!
Juste fantastique ! Merci de nous donner le plaisir d'une si belle voix en solo ou accompagnée... Félicitations depuis l'Ariège ❤😊
That scat at the end was a nice touch 😂
Am I the only one who'd like to hear Geoff (and VoicePlay) really scat sometimes? By that I mean improvised, rather than arranged nonsense syllables. I grew up listening to jazz and know how tough it is to scat well. But Geoff and the guys are such skilled singers and musicians that I know they could knock it out of the park if they tried. I bet they'd have a lot of fun with it, too.
BONJOUR ! J'ADORE VOTRE VOIX, VOTRE TRAVAIL MAGNIFIQUE !😊
RESPECT, ADMIRATION, NELLY, BELGIQUE ! BON WEEK-END
AGRÉABLE À VOUS ET VOTRE FAMILLE !!!😊❤
Love it! Let’s hear Ring of Fire!
THIS GUY JUST KEEPS GETTING LOWER AND LOWER. BRUH MY APT LEGIT SHOOK WITH THE DEPTH OF THAT LAST BASS NOTE.
Господи, какой красавец! С обалденным голосом❤
И песня отличная , с глубоким смыслом 😂
Please, please more songs like this one! This style suits you so incredibly well, Geoff!
Best wishes from Germany
Thanks for showing us these songs, Geoff :)
Would never have heard them otherwise!
Thank you. Jim Croce doesn't get enough remembrance.
I see there's a new Castalluci vid, I click. That's all I need to know.
That being said, another triumph! The voice and the range are a given, but I love the minimalism in this one: no props, no costumes, just Geoff.
And to top it off, switching up genres yet again. We never get the same old same old from Geoff, he's always keeping it fresh.
"You don't mess around with Geoff" :)
love it geoff !! i love your individual songs !! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💪💪💪💪💪
OMG, another song! It gives "16 tons" vibes, but is even better (eventough I thought that wouldn´t be possible)
Grettings from a german fan❤
Great range.
I loved this song when it first came out. This and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, drove my parents crazy. Now I love it even more😂❤ and please, consider doing Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. Your voice is so great.
Me: *casually puts this on repeat*
I can't believe does this young man how's the voice that he has I love all his music
Perfection!
Удивительный, прекрасный голос!! Чудесный клип, впрочем, как и все остальные!!! Давно слежу.
There is no need to imagine Geoff's vocal capabilities. But the plastic of his body attracts no less attention. Geoff does not make complicated movements, and does not even move from his place, but it is impossible to take your eyes off him. Geoff has incredible energy. You can feel it even through the computer monitor. ❤
What the heck even-? How does he DO that?? It's like Geoff has the Midas Touch, but it's his voice. Everything this man sings turns to pure gold~
Ikr? I always either like his covers just as much as the original or (as in this case) even more
OMG! It's been a while since I have listened to your videos.. Always a wonderful surprise. Just awesome
One of my all time favorites and your version is a worthy cover that honors Jim Croce.
Omg, that was amazing! That bass voice just keeps getting better and better! 😍😍😍😍😍
When I was a kid, it was a testament to how much I loved a song, if I skipped a couple of lunches at school so I could use the money to buy the 45! Lots of singers have been loved and some forgotten over the years, but Jim Croce has never left my playlist. Delighted to see one of my most recent faves do such an excellent arrangement and cover!
I loved this song before this version but this is amazing. I love it even more.
This is a great song for his voice! Again, Geoff nails the song with a rich lion-like voice that makes every male jealous!
Geoff - I went back to listen to Croce's original since it was so far back in my past (I was in Jr High when it came out) and I really love the changes you put into this. One of the biggest choice differences in this arrangement that works so well was highly dialing back the guitar. You said you wanted it to feel more like a 'fight song' and upping the percussion to be so dominant really helped with that. Croce's original felt more 'folksy, with a fun, boppy rhythm. All the added stomps and claps kind of gave this a bit of the feeling of something sung at a sports arena. Very smart way to pump up the 'testosterone' while adding some truly gorgeous harmonies (something I would NOT associate with the kind of song sung in arenas).
And I love the choice to give 'Slim' a higher register than what had come before. Kind of made him sound younger and a little naive in comparison as he 'entered'. I need to come back later to mark the spots where I especially loved the changes of notes and bluesy flourishes you added. Need to note down the time spots to indicate them well. BUT overall - absolutely awesome man! (Gotta call you 'man' - fits the time period! )
I think I might have commented about it before, but the 5 of you come across as the guys from "16 Tons" gone to the 'Dark Side' And not just because of wearing black. I think the rhythm of this song has a little bit of that swingy beat to it (instead of 'boppy'). Very hard not to groove along to this with the shoulders as it plays. Yeah - GROOVE is the true feel, not 'bop'. But the resonance and 'buzz' in the starting hums, also gives this a bit of 'dirt'. Feels appropriate for a NY Pool Hall with just a touch of 'dive'. I'm sure that floor that Jim was laid out on was 'sticky' from beer even before the fight went down.
