    Nice post. I own a Code100h and run through a vintage 4x12 celestion G12t75 cab. This little modeler kicks ass. Basically, run it WITHOUT the cab simulator or with the simulation that matches your speaker setup, if you have less than a 4x12 cab. Only with a 4x12 cabinet can you effectively use all the other simulations. I challenge every doubter to set all settings to 5, turn off cab simulations, turn off all pedal modulations and run through every Marshall preamp model without a power amp model. Once you hear the bare bones of every one of Marshall’s historic lineup you’ll get chills upon realizing that once you learn to tweak settings you have a legitimate contender to all the amps that Marshall has to offer. This amp is not for millennial whiners or sissies who seek instant gratification. This amp NEEDS YOU to open her up and dial her in. It will take some time to experiment and truly feel at ease with it. You probably won’t be able to understand her right out of the gate, but if you use Marshall’s Code app, things are so much simpler. Hendrix, Navarro, Page, Waters, DeLeo, Thayill, Santana, Gibbons, Slash, Stradlin, Young, Cantrell, Morello, all all waiting to be unlocked within. This isn’t a toy, despite its size. This is a dream come true for us players who can never afford all of Marshall’s lineup. Get it.

      *CLARIFICATION
      I believe only with a 4x12 cabinet, can the other SPEAKER simulations be used to their fullest. They are still acces otherwise, but results will not be as dynamic.

      Great summary! I think this amp is highly underrated. The fact that it's not getting more love in general I think is possibly a combination of some marketing missteps and like I say in the video, judging the series from from the smaller combos. Again, they are probably great for bedroom playing but the head is a serious gigging/studio amplifier.

      What do you think about the american amp simulators it has?

    • @one1sol
      @one1sol 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well personally, I don’t care for Fender amps and their sparkly chorus and mirrors of reverb. I hate when I stumble upon those setting with my code, so I guess it’s pretty damn spot on for those models. I’m not being a snob, Fender is not my preferred tone. I play hard rock and Marshall’s are made for that. I can definitely dial in Mike Ness’s bassman tone with this code, though. I believe the 100H with a good cabinet is the best option when purchasing this amp. I think the combos are cool for bedrooms, but on stage the 100H is boss and is really not complicated at all AFTER you’ve really learned to use the programmable footswitch and gateway app. I know it’s scary to buy “digital” gear, but this one’s for real. You can buy 1 expensive head and then spend hundreds more on pedals and find maybe 2-3 good times, or buy this, and maybe just a wah or boost after your guitar signal, and find damn near every guitar tone since the 60’s.

    • @RobNY5150

      @@emmanuelmartinez100 I think they are totally useable. I can't compare them to the real thing but there isn't one bad amp model on that thing IMO.

    I read so many bad reviews on these amps but through chance bought the 100 H. Right out of the box I was disappointed with the 100 patches loaded on the amp, however.... once I downloaded the Gateway app and tried the additional 100 In App patches I found they sounded FAR superior to the amp presets. I ended up loading most of these to the amp along with some patches from the My Marshall website which ties into the Gateway App.
    The patches preloaded to the amp seemed to be quite harsh, synthetic sounding and very trebly. The In App patches have a smoother delivery and are responsive more akin to tube/valve amp they modelled on.
    I’m very pleased with the amp so far, the fact I can stream backing tracks to play and practice along to is also a great feature.
    P.S.
    The amp also sounds great with no FX or modelling selected, I run a Behringer Vintage Tube Monster pedal through the effects loop and it sounds superb

    I've had this for a couple weeks. I think everything in this amp was created with the expectation that the cabinet simulations would be used. I have a 2x12 with vintage 30s and found that without cabinet simulation, the amp is so insanely bright and fizzy it's hard to use. The cabinet simulations seem to tame that a little.

    • @blakehatton4990
      @blakehatton4990 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Bad Boys Boogie After EQing it more, I've gotten it better. Cabinet simulation made the bass a little too boomy- I found that gigging, the amp really wasn't too bright. Through the 2x12, I actually had to bring the resonance down a lot.

Obviously if you choose to adjust the settings on the handset, the amp is unaltered. Then if you take you handheld with you where they have a Marshall Code, you can just connect via bluetooth and you have all your settings with you. Perfect.

      The gateway app is a must. A Must! Besides the extra presets, it is the best way to change dial settings and controls. I set up about 15’ away from my 1/2 stack and get the full tone of my cabinet and comfortably work the controls from my iPhone 8. I really need to find a cheapo used tablet and dedicate it only to my Code. There I can make super quick changes to setting during gigs. The programmable footswitch is also a must to turn on/off effects during individual songs.

    Please help me. I have a marshall code 50 and I am very happy with the amp's versatility and timbre. But, I feel that the amp speaker is very bad. I'm looking to take a 100h code and use it with a mx212a with two celestion seventy 80. I would like to know if you has a 100h head and if have already tested it in the code cabinet and others. Does the speaker improve the sound quality? Can you help me? Thank you!

      I've only used the head with my 2x12 cabinet. The 70/80 speakers are decent but I would consider upgrading to like vintage 30s or what I use...warehouse speakers veteran 30s. Speakers make a huge difference in my experience.

    Can you change the order of the presets for easy switching using the pedal? For example, if I wanted to use a JCM 800 tone as a main rhythm tone and also have a clean tone right next to it for easy switching between them both, is that possible on this amp?

    • @RobNY5150
      @RobNY5150  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. You can have a clean preset, let's say as preset 1, and then a high gain preset as preset 2 etc etc. The optional footswitch would make it even more versatile.

      If you read my comments in the description I did warn that the direct recording I did for this was not representative of how it sounds in person. I'm used to recording direct either with BIASFX or the AXEFX3 and it could very well be a result of my (at the time) relative inexperience with the direct recording aspect of the CODE. Please dont judge the amp by the direct recording tones in this video.

    Can you use a single 8ohm 12 speaker cab with the head?

    • @RobNY5150
      @RobNY5150  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      8ohm speaker should be fine because the speaker output on the back of the head is 8ohms. Just make sure the speaker can handle the 100 watts of the head. As long as you're not blasting it, most speakers should be fine but thats why I use a 2x12, for a fuller sound but also two speakers can usually handle the 100 watts easier.

    I have owned my code 25 for a while now, and instead of upgrading the speaker, i'm thinking about trading it in for a code 100 head. I also own a Marshall MG250DX which is a combo amp. can I unplug the speakers and plug the code 100 head to it? the speakers are 8 Ohm. can I run both speakers? is this a good idea?

    • @RobNY5150
      @RobNY5150  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MG250DX is a 100 watt amp so theoretically I think you probably could use it as a 2x12 cabinet for the CODE. However I would recommend getting a separate 2x12 cabinet for the CODE because first, it will probably be a deeper/fuller sound (seismic audio has great budget cabs) and second, in my experience, speakers such as Warehouse speakers are a SIGNIFICANT upgrade to the stock speakers in the MG series (which I did own an MG at one time).
