Here is my honest opinion about what I think of the Marshall Code 25 digital modeling amplifier. This is my first experience with the Marshall Code amps and I have to say it's not bad if you're into higher gain sounds.

Probably the best CODE demo I have seen/heard. You actually make it sound decent. That can't be said for other demos. You can still hear the digital toy-like nature, though (no fault of yours).

I 've had one since they came out. The 25 is for home practice, not so much for "beginners." I have the 50 Watt and I'll tell you right now: Ain't nothing beginner about a 50 watt Marshall that'll chase roaches outta the room when on 3! One could easily use it for gigs in a good size room. What dude didn't mention is the company that helped develop the software for the amp: Soft Tube. They created a Marshall plugin, that won all types of awards for their spot on recreation of a Plexi. So Marshall did the smart thing, and got together with S.T., went into the Marshall vault, and used the tech to clone some of Marshall's most iconic amps. The only thing I don't like about the amp is the line in feature, so for recording I slap a decent mic in front of the amp, turn up, and go to town. Great amp. Great review by the way.

Been at home for the pandemic like everyone and looking at modeling amps and while the Boss Katana, Marshall Code, and Fender Mustang keep getting talked about this seems to have the most appeal between software and ease of use... I want an at home let me dial in some presets and play from there!!! sounds like a winner...

They're good amps, I have the CODE 50. People just get angry because it is (because it is sometimes) a little hard to create really good sounds, but once you get the trick, you'll be alright.
I only hate 2 things about them, one is that on 25 and 50 versions there is no fx-loop, and the second thing is the compressor is really bad (for someone who likes 80s tones like me, you'd want to buy a compressor pedal instead of using amp's).
Trust me, you must work with it for a while.
I have created presets inspired in Rush's "A Show Of Hands" tour, Def Leppard's "Live In The Round In Your Face" tour, Starship's "No Protection" and "Love Among The Cannibals" albums and other 80s inspired presets.
Once you get the trick, it will become pretty easy to get great sounds from it.

My jam buddy had a Code 50 and I had a Mustang III. We both wasted hours of jam/practice time trying to dial in tones. Now we both have Katana 50s - we pick a channel and jam. No more "option paralysis" and the selectable power output is awesome!

I was seriously looking into these Marshall Code amps (the Code 100H actually) a couple of months ago until I found your channel. It seemed nobody had anything nice to say about the Code series, so I basically started looking elsewhere. There was a good deal on a basically new Fender Mustang V v2.0 through a friend of a friend and I still wasn't sure about it until the guy agreed to come to my band's jam space to let me take it for a real-world test drive. Bought and paid for within 30 min of playing and I couldn't be happier with it after downloading some of your presets. I've since played 3 gigs with it and Fender nailed it on the head. I can see why Marshall decided to get into the modelling game (it likely has a pretty hot market vs true tube amps based on price) but I truly can't believe how badly Fender screwed up the Mustang GT series; all they needed to do was take the V2 Mustang series and add bluetooth/USB mobile device support, an app to make things easier and a wider range of effects and they would've been cleaning house. Anyhow, sorry for the long-winded comment; I wanted to thank you for steering me towards the Mustang. Your demo of the Code series definitely sounds better than the others I've heard, but I have no regrets as of watching this haha. Cheers Shane, thanks for everything!

I’ve had this amp for 6 months and I’m completely satisfied with it, I’ve gigged it and it’s loud enough on stage for most gigs. Love the phone app for changing the settings, basically it’s got everything I need in one extremely lightweight box.

Good unbiased review... For those who feel that this amp is not suited for gigging.... Well you are right if all you use is the amp as is, but I use my CODE25 for gigging with no problems. I will admit that I use a DI Box and feed it through the soundboard. No need to "blast" an amp on stage with this set-up. The bass player uses a small 30w amp with the same DI Box setup as well, All the different soundtechs we have had just loves this set-up over mic's as it also helps reduce the risk of feedbacking which happens now and then due to the mic's picking up the drums... This also allows frees up a drummer from being imprisoned behind those plexi-shields... Sorry for my ramblings, but out of the 35 years of gigging, it sure is nice to have an amp like this that delivers a great sound and not killing my back during load-in's and load-out's....

Sounded better than Ive read it does.
I try to steer clear of most modeling, but recent amps have been showing that modeling has arrived. This generation especially ( should I use the "Katana" word? ) has been hitting home runs.
Given the pace that technology makes advances, one can't help but wonder how they will sound in 4-5 years, especially when the manufacturers start taking it seriously instead of making it a low end bottom barrel product.
    Hold that thought...
Then consider the effect those amps will have on the tube amp market. : ) ... Maybe not run out and buy that stock huh?
    Thanks Shane!
This was a very enlightening review.

I'm glad you had fun with this amp, i've got one and i think it's fun. It's only a little modelling amp for home so it does have some shortcomings, as you mentioned, but it's easy to use and easy to get a good sound. Some of the ridiculous presets are fun to try just for a laugh, for entertainments sake. It's loud enough to be a problem at home (!!!), but as you mention, not meant for use with a band. I think younger players will embrace the controls and output of this amp but if you have a history of valve amps it's not really suitable. Good one Marshall and thanks Shane for your outstanding demo!

Besides some digital and SS amps, I have a large collection of valve amps. Mostly Marshall. This afternoon I set up and plugged into my Plexi 50W (1987X) It reminded me that the tube amp era isn't over yet. The tone brought almost tears to my eyes. I wouldn't drag it around to gigs though. Great video, as usual. I have high hopes for the new Origing Series. The 50W head is on order. I'll let you know my experiences, once it'll be delivered.

    Good review.
I sent my first Code 50 back thinking something was wrong with it. The second one was the same. So I decided to spend some time with it. I selected the worst channel, channel 23 Virus and completely altered it to my liking. It took 3 entire days. Now it's close to being my favorite clean amp. For $250 ($299 2019) and three days of learning and adjusting I now have my go to non tube amp for cleans. I adjusted the Tremolo and Reverb and noise gate and well just about every setting. Not really all that difficult.
Ha! I made my own MFR Name for this amp, I call it EDOC JAZZ! I put this on the grill so every time I look at the amp I read EDOC JAZZ. Which it is, a fairly good Jazz amp.

Thank's for sharing. I've got the Code 25 and it's a very good little amp for home training. Easy to use and edit presets. Some glitches with Blustooth. Most of all => the Marshall sound (You like it or hate it). I like this sound but imho Fender clean are more smooth and sweet. At least Marshall is constant with this sound and they do not try to emulate all the world's amplifier like some other SS cheap amp.

You could plug your dsl in and say its the code and people would still say it sounds crap because 90% of people commenting on these reviews are all gear snobs. Are you gonna gig with this amp? Probably not. These things were not made for that, they were made for home use and beginners. And for the price these things are perfect for exactly that. My first ever amp was a solid state 15w ashton and this thing blows it out of the water in every aspect. These amps are a lot of fun and sound good, some models sound great and some not so great.

Honestly most people love the tone and sound till they find out that it's a modeling amp.

@@survivor1155 I have gigged with my CODE25 in fairly big bar venues using a DI Box to feed it to the soundboard with success. I usually get "you got to be kidding, that small amp?" at the end of a gig... I have the 100 watt 2x12 and it is stellar-with tweaking. I also use a MXR equalizer in the effects loop which really helps dial in my tones. Some of the amps a shine more than others, in my opinion. The JTM 45, Bluesbreaker, and Silver Jubilee are my favorites but I have found really cool sounds playing with all of them! For comparison I own a mustang 1 v2, Katana 50, Spider V 240 as well. They are all great in their own right. I think the Spider series gets the worst rap overall, but the “V” series is really impressive when you take the time to dial it in. I have to breakdown and just buy a Helix or Kemper next, lol!

I got one of these for 60 bucks at a pawn shop. Maybe because I paid so little, I didn't expect much, but it exceeded my expectations. Had a Mustang III and the Marshall tones sucked. They rock on this. The highs are a bit too high and the lows are a bit too low. But that can be dialed out as Shane said. Presence is more important than treble for removing the ice pick.
All in all, a nice little amp that I use for going room to room and in my TV room. Use it much more than I thought I would. My Katana mini doesn't get much of a workout anymore.

Now that‘s what I‘d call a Review ... thanks, Shane. Not sure if I should get the 25 or 50. People say that the 50 sounds kinda bad, not very clear, because of the speaker they built in. 🤔

Thanks for a great review - fantastic little amp that sounds great when run through the PA. No need to thrash the nuts out of it that way. Love it!

I have a Marshall code 50. A lot of the boxy and harsh tones come from the speaker and can simulation. I changed my speaker to warehouse speaker t75 and turned the cab Sim off and boom! Great tone!

I think it sounds fine but with the phone app it is possible to dial in your tone.... Great review and I have to say it's not bad. Would be just fine in a small tight venue.... Thanks Shane!

Now demo the 100 watt code combo please. I already have one and love it, but I'm keen to hear what you think of it. BTW, the 100 watt combo has a larger screen, effects loop and a speaker out option. Just saying.

There is a lot of competition but its not bad in any way and good in many. I have one which I use at home and fortnightly with the footswitch for jams (with a LOUD drummer) and it copes okay and is very light and easy to carry. I bought it to replace a 5Watt valve amp which was lovely but much too quiet on clean to be heard. I initially tried the 50Watt Code (which is probably the one I should use) but I wasn't using much of its volume at all so traded down as I find the 25 cuter (the cheap finish on the 50 is somehow more obvious). I find when jamming that I only use about six presets but tweak them to reduce the jump in volume between a lead and rhythm tone. Also I need to use the footswitch - the App is easy to use at home but isn't really usable when playing in other peoples time.

Cool video and a cool little amp.
I have been considering the Line 6 POD GO unit, and still on the fence whether I wanted to get it. I am looking for something the records really well, especially using an over driven sound and heavier distortion type solos. Thanks for doing the video...Gave you a Sub.

Awesome video Shane!!!! I did think about buying this amp when it came out last year. It’s sounds like it would beat out a Mustang GT 40!!! 😂 🤣😂 Oh well I can always sell that GT 40 and get a couple of pennies for it!!! Awesome work Shane and yes I will take your advice from now on!!!🎸🎸🎸✌🏾🤘🏽🤙🏾✌🏾

DMSProduktions Well to be honest, the next amp on my radar is a Fender 68 Deluxe Reverb!!! The Mustang serves a purpose as far as practice/fooling around amp that’s not too loud. The Marshall Code was something I was looking at before the Mustang. The deciding factor was Mustang producing better Fender amp models better than a Marshall and since I already own one, the Mustang made sense.

I just re watched this for probably the 3rd time and caught a look at the head stock on that guitar. A Love Rock special on a Gibson shaped head. WhaT? Couldn't figure out the brand. I expect some of your viewers like me around the world would like to see a episode on your Guitars that we have never seen before as a brand. Gear hogs love to see what they don't have..

I am interested in getting the code 25 and trying to fit it into a gutted marshall lead 12 head cabinet. I have seen photos of the internal amp and it’s not even a full chassis, but a partial chassis with exposed pcb circuit and a power transformer mounted to cabinet. Made of junk particle board. I think the code chassis mounted in a lead 12 plugged into a larger cabinet would sound much better!

  • @user-os3ko9fw3c
    @user-os3ko9fw3c 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have the Code 100 Head paired with a Laney 212 Cub Cabinet. When playing through an extension cabinet (or through the combo speaker if you have the combo model) the "CAB" should be left off. The cab simulation is only for headphones and playing through a digital interface. Marshall doesn't make that clear in their manual and all factory presets have it set to "on" in the default mode. So to get a good sound I think you need to start with the cab model turned to off and check the noise gate setting (too much gate makes it sound sterile with no "character" in my opinion). Still trying to get a "natural" and "full" sound out of the amp...it's been a tedious task as I'm a bit new to this stuff and apparently the resonance and presence can make a big difference so I need to mess with those.
All I really want for now are five kick-*ss pre-sets so I can jam rhythm:
    1) Clean (w/ a bit of chorus) (as if I EVER play "clean" lol)
    2) AC/DC (Back in Black song/album)
    3) AC/DC (Highway to Hell song/album)
    4) AC/DC (High Voltage album)
    5) A generic heavy metal guitar tone.
Finally, I want them all to sound as good as when I play through my Engl Rock Master lol.

I find this code amp a very useful good sounding amp and feature packed . A great amp to have for private practice for sure. No , I will not make the gigging tube amp comparison vs this code amp . 2 different tools for different applications . At the price point , you cant go wrong . Looks like loads of fun .
