    Having been a playing professional and then turned teaching the game ( and swing ) for 30+ years this is by far the best I’ve seen over that time. Have been national coach 10 years. worked with very good juniors. Was always curious and looking for more and more detailed information to be able to help advanced players. Now with 52 I’ll get info I was looking for for years. Thanks for all the work you put in and the sharing of the information. Keep up your fantastic work 🙏👍

    Gr8 video. If I am not straight but I am compressing I always check my hand path/height.... too close to my body & low produces a left shot (PULL DRAW HOOK)... too far away from body & high produces block/fade/shank. I love the gears thing... puts a picture in my head ... allows me to trust the knowledge still knowing there are lots of slight individual differences due to physical differences. Thanks guys

    This is precisely what I was working on today. Finding one’s tempo suitable to keep this all in sequence while achieving the highest efficiency is the key. And being repeatable. You guys have helped me so much. Just improving my grip, setup, takeaway, and right arm in the backswing, I was able to have the best ball striking round of my life recently. The downswing has never felt easier, now that I'm making a quality backswing. Fat shots are now nonexistent. I used to hook regularly, and I haven't seen one in weeks. It's incredible. In a recent round I shot 71, with 32 putts. I made almost nothing, and could not have cared less, lol. You just can't put a price on repeatable, well struck, controlled golf shots. With some better putting, I'm hopeful that my best round of 69 will be broken very soon. Maybe later today? ;) I'll keep watching the videos, doing the drills, and working to improve any way that I can. Thanks so much, for making the game feel easy and fun again.

    Good and helpful video reinforcing earlier videos on shaft lean and the magic move in golf. Question/request: The first golfer's pelvis movement is about 1" back and then 5" forward from starting point (6" total). Could you give us the numbers on his chest and head? I know they're connected, but I'm assuming the chest lateral motion is a bit smaller and the head's even less, especially at impact. Thanks.

    I was wondering when the magic bullet of wisdom (see time index 11:30) about the face being open / you get the impact-flip you need to square the club nugget of truth was going to be mentioned. I still remember a previous video when you pointed out that one of the absolute biggest differences between Pro & AM swings was how quickly and how violently Pros put twisting torque on the handle, at the very top of the downswing, versus AMs, to square the club. That video changed my golfing life.

    I wish this stuff was around when I was in school, AMG Pro vs Ams helped me finally consistently get back to scratch and breaking par without having to crazily rely on scrambling. My stats for a typical 6600 yard course went from 4 GIR to 15, fairways hit from 6 to 12, and have added about 20 yards carry to my driver by consistently finding the center of the club face more often (245 to 265).

      @@AthleticMotionGolf hand position in the downswing. One of the things I noticed was that your tour pros almost always swing back through the impact zone exactly where they started, though obviously with shaft leans applied via rotation. This was a lightbulb moment because during setup I would set the distance via a handle raise for width, then settle into position, by lowering the handle I was able to get the correct distance from the golf ball, set up with correct shoulder tilt and hip open.
      The other thing that helped was seeing that your prod moved their pelvis back to load up, and that they applied both a rotation and slide forward that was still inside the “frame” of the feet, one of my biggest issues besides handle lifting was sliding and not turning and uncoiling into the front leg. All in all this moved my contact from high toe and a straight push with some draw into a basically straight shot. So I picked up about 1.5 clubs in distance, tightened up my irons, and got a better descent angle coming into shots so I could hold greens.

    Hi. You must know already but Padraig Harrington has started putting out some TH-cam videos.
    The quality IMO is very high. The one on the grip was (sorry) the best I have ever seen, passing yours for #1 spot. He like you calls it like it needs to be called. Very simple if you don't have a good grip you won't play good golf so better give up.
    I'm a scientist. The reason science works is that it's a community. People talk, argue and compare ideas. Overall the result is progress and almost everything that makes our lives right now so much better than they were 100 years ago is due to this. (Even the most obvious exception, rock and roll came about because folks worked together and learned)
    The best golf tuition is similar. You give kudos to those who you have learned from and gone before. I think it would be a great idea to reach out to Padraig and mix his insights with your science. I think you are saying much of the same thing but different and if you merge the two the whole will be a great deal better than the sum of the parts.

    That last thing yall did with the weight shift board was really good. There's sooo many golfers who would benefit from learning to do that drill correctly. I remember when I figured out how to do that move and it was truly a pivotal moment in my evolution. It immediately creates speed and most other good things everyone wants in their swing. I ingrained it by learning shawn Clement's perpetual motion drill. I still use that drill to this day out on the course when I start feeling off.

    Guys, in quite a few of your videos you stress not overturning the pelvis, chest and maintaining spine angle in the backswing. A video showing all of us how to find the natural top of our backswing would be a great help.

  • @3rdmillenniumfuture607
    @3rdmillenniumfuture607 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great video, thanks guys.
    It would be cool to be able to see our hip rotation and sway when we watch videos of ourselves. Obviously it would be impossible to get the same precision as GEARS but just a simple check that hips were rotating in synch with the sway like you say is essential would be a start.
    I think the hips are not too difficult. You could put a bright fluorescent clothes peg on your lead hip. I think this would be quite easy to pickup and see the moment when the hips stop rotating in one direction and start in the other.
    The sway is a bit trickier. Perhaps the belt buckle may work. Or perhaps it would be easier to video from behind and put a marker there, perhaps another clothes peg on the belt in line with the spine.
    I'll try some things out but if you have any tips on how to measure direction and amount of sway on a video it would be much appreciated.

  • @FitFast8
    @FitFast8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the main reason AM's end up with a curved pelvis trace is because they believe the right hip joint is the centre of rotation. When they use this flawed concept, the centre of the pelvis moves significantly towards the ball in the backswing. In reality, for the centre of pelvis to move more or less laterally, the right hip joint needs to be pulled well behind the initial starting position in the backswing and visa versa for the left hip joint in the downswing. It's quite good to think of the centre of the pelvis and hips joints moving the same way as the upper body; you need to pull each shoulder joint well behind your head so the base of the neck travels laterally (and if you didn't the base of neck and head would move significantly forward towards the ball).

    The hardest part of re-centering and forward sway (to me) has always been the arms becoming disconnected and trailing behind the body. So the whole body goes forward, but the right arm seems to fall too much away coming down. I know it can be from getting arms too much behind you, but even with it more strictly in front it still is often my main issue.

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its from letting the arms move across too much on the backswing normally

    • @MrMikeRodriguez
      @MrMikeRodriguez 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AthleticMotionGolf yeah. The sort of thought I have when I get this re-centering feeling working effectively is:
      I think of trying to very early get the club going towards trail side until it gets pressure on that foot, then I try to feel almost like I’m lifting the arms up over my shoulder as if it it were something heavy. Importantly have to use correct muscles in back, legs, and abs for this to maintain posture and not stress lower back, etc.
      I lift it to the point where the momentum from it actually pulls my whole body back towards front foot. At that point, the body basically wants to unwind fast into the downswing without a lot of effort. Sort of just a recoil.
      I think it’s perhaps similar to like a “tossing object over your trail shoulder towards target” analogy. Except you don’t let go and you don’t let it throw you off balance.

  • @nelsonjames1272

      I’ll disagree a bit for the sake of clarity. This does not happen correctly for most golfers. But it is very learnable when it doesn’t. Instead of trying to work on pre-impact hand positions, I think it would be wise to have an idea of how the position feels after the impact. You could also have a stronger grip and have the ball back a bit in your stance.

    A shank is NOT caused by an open clubface at impact. The clubface can be open, square or closed at impact and shank the shot. The path can be inside out, outside in or inside to square and shank the shot. A shank is the result of hitting the ball in the hosel of the club. It is caused by the player moving the club closer to the ball at impact than it was address. The Brits call it socketing. I'm 71, have played for 58 years and taught for 40 years including tour pros. You guys are great but wrong about shanking.

      Lots of ways to shank it yes :) Ive been teaching over 20 years and an wide open clubface will definitely cause a shank.
