Hi Mike and Shaun, love your TH-cam lesson videos! Whether just instructional or the 'Live' lessons with a client. This one in particular is very interesting how you demonstrated your hi-tech swing tools(equipment) to help and solve the issue that a PGA tour winner, couldn't resolve. Sharing this video lesson convinces many the value of your expert swing knowledge and concepts you have acquired with the use of these hi-tech swing tools. The motion of the golf swing is rather complicated because of the many moving parts, that it requires conceptually a good 'flashlight' to see what part of the body motion is the 'root cause' of the issue that creates a bad swing path, impact etc...Great work, you out do what many of the PGA instructors that I have taken lessons with back in the 80s and 90's.
Hi Mike and Shaun, I just had my first swing lesson ever. Been playing for 20+ years (39 years old). My lesson showed I was over rotating on my backswing (65 pelvis, 105 shoulders)…haha. Club gets way behind me too on backswing. I’ve made it work over the years but can’t get my handicap below 8 due to some drastically bad shots on a few holes over a round. I’ve been trying to “restrict” my turn and heard you guys say that’s not what I should be feeling. Do you guys have any videos/drills on how to get my rotation down without causing another problem?
Can you guys do a video with gears etc that show proper knee / leg movement in the swing. You referenced proper knee movement in this one. Your videos are awesome, best stuff on line - your videos on rotation were game changers for me. Thanks!
11:16 Given the discrepancy in the overlays, would you say he was standing closer to the ball at address (and maybe even bent more from the hips)? You guys are awesome BTW
I appreciate your videos. Numbers don’t lie. The concept of how long the down swing takes and how much time we have to do what we do is really helpful. Super helpful.
Thanks. very helpful. Can you please create a video or answer the question about ... the lead leg (left leg for Right handers) pivoting on the heel in the follow-through. Does that impact the swing? I see lot of Golfers doing it, esp DeChambeau, Jordan Speith & others. I do not think its solid technique as it can create follow-on unintended consequences. To clarify, its more than the tilt of the left leg, some of which is inevitable but a pivot of the heel. My son has started doing it a lot & I'm concerned about what to do about it or just ignore it. Thank you.
Sounds like a move that long driver Josh Koch describes as a “rainbow” move. In a relatively recent video with Eric Cogorno discussing this move, they talked about the *benefit* of getting more left hip depth in the through swing as a result of this move. I don’t think you have to worry much that your son has this move. Would be interesting to hear AMG thoughts on this move.
Shaun/Mike,your videos are all on the money. Both of you do a great job of explaining what I see from the GEARS SYS.I would like to ask a favor of you by viewing some part of the videos from TARGET to YOU. That angle helps me see the path of the Club and Body,THANKS,keep up the GOOD WORK!
Oh, that head moving away from the yellow line thing looks SOOO familiar! Can you explain why hip rotation causes it or, contributes? I'm backing away and standing up a bit on the downswing which makes for some interesting golf 🥴.
Guys, I really like the video analysis but I was not ascertain from the video and your explanation how this PGA professional was able to reduce his backswing hip turn. You referenced his knee action improvement, but I don’t feel that you adequately explained or showed the differences that led to his improvement.
@@AthleticMotionGolf Yes. I have referred many people to your vids to see what's actually going on in the golf swing but they always wanna know HOW to work on doing what they see.
Or even the Zen Golf approach. They will do a shorter video on YT and then charge $20 (I think) if we want to download the full 1+ hour lesson they gave.
Hey guys! I so love what y’all do. Question: do you believe in an upward directional component of hip rotation through the hitting area? Everyone talks about jump but the only person I’ve ever heard, aside from a random Golf Digest tip, talk about the belt buckle actually pointing upward at the finish is that guy Brian from Tathata. Looking at Tour players it certainly seems their belly buttons and belt buckles are pointed a little bit to the sky at finish. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
So because he was a stand-up for power, slightly shut-face drawer, who had a pull miss, he started to bring the club more inside and swing further outside to protect his miss. So you got him to have his weight & head more out over the balls of his feet, and to keep his tilts, which kept his hands slightly more in-front of his chest on the back-swing, and thus his brain, in a search for power, increased his Right Wrist bend more in the initial downswing, which flattened the club, and he also rotated his pelvis more on the follow-through because his tilts & more upright backswing reduced his backswing pelvis turn - the combo 'neutralized' his path through the hitting-zone which helped him likely reduce ball-curvature and start the ball more on-line. All of this is basically me in a nutshell - and when I work on pure, less curvature iron shots on the range, this is exactly what i'm working on - better equalizing the rotations and zeroing out club delivery. When you work on increasing distance on the range, so much of this goes out the window - you then have to re-group and better sync your body's rotations when you want to deliver pure ball striking. Absolutely love the video. Thank you for posting this.
@@1upadventures Ha! My swing thought is 1) Turn my back to move the club backwards and when my back stops turning, I stop 2) I then swing as hard as a can as I 'slightly' extend my Right Wrist / Bow my Left Wrist at the top of the swing in transition to get the feeling of 'slightly' coming from the inside. That's my golf swing - it produces a 3-5 yard draw. For my Driver, if I want to play a Draw, the ONLY thought I have when swinging is swing IN-to-Out and I pay special attention to making sure I have the feeling in my golf grip that I can deliver a 'slightly' shut face to this swing path - if I can't get that feeling/comfort, I will play my gamer 10-yard driver fade. I'm a 5 handicap - hoping to become scratch, trying to simplify everything and I spend 90% of my practice time pitching & chipping. The biggest improvement in my game has come from completely simplifying the swing - turn back, club & clubface in good position at the top, swing hard. I got my equipment dialled in at TXG (I live in Toronto 5 minutes away from them) and now I just work on pitching the ball from 10-30 yards from every conceivable lie. What I've got from the AMG guys is how little the Pros move their arms in the backswing (on average 8 inches vs 20 inches for amateurs) and that has given me the ammo to just turn my back and then swing hard.
@@wallstreetoneil Thank you Paul, I have this same problem - perfect timing for this too because I was out on the course today. Maybe I should try a few of these thoughts, so thanks for putting this out here
A question, not exactly related, but I've been reading up on hip rotation and ran across Mike Adams and EA Tischler's BioSwing Dynamics. Are you familiar with them and what are your thoughts on their teaching?
Truly enjoy your videos men! I've felt this on the range with limiting my turn. The limit of turn gave me a feel of more solid foundation to push off of back foot into downswing. According to my Swing Caddy 2 it provides more speed.
@@AthleticMotionGolf If I could afford it I’d be there tomorrow. Poor people watch your videos too. I’ll try and figure it out with an alignment rod and a camera.
Very insightful and I think I have gotten away from minimizing hip turn ( hence not enuf coil resistance ) But what does a player do without this high tech graphic of his/her swing ? Use an alignment rod in belt loop is only thing I can think of and that no where near as accurate as the swing graphic
The grip on the avitar looks like Speith ... and he had the recent swing change....am I warm? Best takeaway.....flat hip turn disconnects the golfer from the ground.

Hey guys, love your work but just a comment on this format for the podcast. In future episodes could you include more of a verbal description and have less reliance on the Gears visuals for audio-only listeners? Finding it really hard to follow in the car or on my commute without watching the video. This format is obviously great for your regular videos, but was hoping the podcast would be more catered to audio only.
Thanks for the comments, Jeremy. We're going to go back to our original audio-first style for the podcasts. You're right, it's too difficult to follow along without having access to the videos. So we're going back to doing a separate audio only version for the cast👍

Basically if you turn too far back, you don't have the time in the downswing to get the hips from WAY closed to WAY open. More than likely, you won't open them enough. That would limit your ability to generate speed through impact.
I’ve watched a couple videos over the last couple years and, after struggling to find the consistent improvement I was looking for, I’ve watched as many of your videos as I could for a couple days straight now and my swing is feeling 1000 times more natural and comfortable. Do you have any recommendations for GEARS equipped facilities near Kansas City?
I hate that you guys are making podcasts out of video’s. It is so frustrating listening to your podcasts in the car when you are referring to things that we can’t see. Just my two cents, but please keep videos and podcasts separate.
During the backswing and downswing while the pelvis turns one way the hips turn the opposite way. No where in your teachings do you acknowledge the difference. Instead you imply the hips and pelvis to be the same.

It is quite easy... right knee goes in . Left knee goes out and left. Not much logic to it actually. Most important is shifting your pressure.

proper knee motion which creates the proper hip tilts which creates the correct rotation :)
