      It happened to a friend of mine, a woman and when her father died she was left with a mother that loved her but was not supportive. Trap with a negative system that drow her down all the time (and later on also her daughter) and with a violent brother. She ran, but she never recovered. She was not gifted academically and she was never able to grow a steel-plated skin. Maybe because she was so little when her father died, or maybe because she was sick from an early age.

      Yall are soo wild. She left her grandmother’s wedding to hook up, she lied to her mom and friend on multiple occasions, and she cheated. Think about Nalini’s position in this, dealing with a daughter who constantly disobeys her. You guys act like adults can’t make mistakes and excuse everything an almost 18 yr old does. Yes, she said something wrong in the heat of the moment, was it wrong? Yeah, but just like how everyone’s looking at the trauma for Devi, look at how most likely Nalini was brung. Shes from India, and she most likely had high expectations set on her, because most of the stuff in this show is pretty unrealistic. Nalini probably sacrificed a lot to come to America for Devi’s future. It’s not black and white. It’s so weird when people pick side on two morally gray characters because not everyone is perfect. She eventually owns up.

      @Cosmic Boba even if it is common, it should not be. do u know how it effects the mind of a kid. just bcz u are an adult doesn't mean u can say whatever u want and still want us to not get hurt, bcz if we do the same then we are rude, brat and a$$ hole kids but if a parent says that the. they are trying to discipline their kids? but thats how u not discipline ur kids bcz ur kid is only gonna hate u with ur insensitive words. literally there are no consequences for adults if they act really bad to kids but there should be

    • @Maddie-wb7tq
      @Maddie-wb7tq ปีที่แล้ว +234

      @Cosmic Boba if Devi makes choices that reflects her character then so does her mother makes choices that reflects her character, i won't say that what Devi said was right, but remember, kids learn from their parents. Her mom sh!t talked about her and as a sane human she will get hurt by those words, and it should not be invalidated just bcz she is a teenager who doesn't know anything so say whatever u want to say about her. Teenagers need assurance and emotional support. Her mother also needs to reflect not only Devi, they both should be redeeming for the things they have said to each other.

    • @Maddie-wb7tq
      @Maddie-wb7tq ปีที่แล้ว +100

      @Cosmic Boba Just bcz Devi is a teenager and her mother is adult, she can say anything, in fact her mother should be more responsible of what she is saying bcz she is an adult.
      And there are parents who don't smack their kid and sh!t talk, yeah they are hard to find but Their are and it is bcz they actually took the responsibility of caring for a kid not bcz everyone told them to so they should be doing what everyone is doing (out of topic)
      And there are not perfect parents but there are good parents who know what they are doing.

    • @Maddie-wb7tq
      @Maddie-wb7tq ปีที่แล้ว +121

      @Cosmic Boba and Devi literally lost her father who was her only emotional support system. And of course Devi would get mad bcz her mother didn't ask what she is going to do bcz as much he is the husband of her mother, he is also her father, so she does have a say in what should be done with his stuff, her mother's moving own is unhealthy way bcz she is ignorant, impulsive and inconsiderate. Yeah her mother feelings are valid but just bcz they are valid doesn't give her the permission to do anything she wants. And IF THE MOTHER IS TRYING TO MOOVE ON THEN SO IS DEVI, u are talking like her mother is only one suffering from grief and has the only right to grieve over it. Devi also lost someone she loved.
      And i won't excuse devi's other behaviour bcz they are wrong but acting like her mother being sad and grieving is the only logical thing when Devi also has total right to.

    When a parent acts as if your trauma is nothing, but says all you are wanting is attention, but their wrong. Your not grabbing for attention, your begging for help, you wish for something they never gave, which could be love. My own mother has done the same thing and she remembers things differently, but certain things can leave an impression that doesn't go away, it leaves behind trauma and have lasting effects later in life. I suffered and so has my younger sisters, my mother just doesn't see it, she blinded by her own dramatic nature and playing off that everything is okay. She will victimize herself, when someone points out the wrong she has done, im the only child thats ever caused her to face whats shes done to me and understand what she did was wrong, my younger sisters no longer talk to about her any serious issues that she will perceive as a mental problem, which its not. Context: Devi's mom attempted to sell her father's bike which he was really attached to. When Devi tried to convince her mother otherwise, she flatly ignored her feelings. This really hurt Devi. Whatever Devi said was an expression of all the rage that she had been consuming so far. From her mother comparing Devi with her cousin, her father's death, her leg injury, her issues with Ben and Paxton to her mom selling something that was so close to her father's memory. This is very natural among teenagers and I can totally empathize considering how many times i have said some really fucked up things to my mom and instantly regretted. Besides, I think Devi's mom was going wayy to far disciplining her. She was being inconsiderate and oblivious of Devi's feelings. Small things like these really affect a person especially when ur a teenager. Boundaries are requisite for a child's well being but not to an extent that life becomes too suffocating to live.

We usually have less control over our emotions and words at that age. Yall, IN the show the mother did say that for her losing some fucking music sheet.
    Devi didnt cross a line, She just wants a parent, somebody who is meant to guide and love her so she grows into an amazing person to love her and care for her. Her father cared and loved for her.
    Imagine your a child left and stuck with somebody who doesn’t love you, doesn’t even want you. Then turns around and says it was the heat of the moment. NO PARENT should ever treat their child like that.
    The mother fully deserved those words, those works awakened her sight to being able to see her child needs to actually be loved.
    Lines where already crossed when her dad died infront of her.
    Never thought I would have to edit a comment; please try to refrain from acting like babies in the comments and taking this too personally and deep. I’m not saying Devi is an amazing little angel, but I’m just saying people don’t need to treat their kids this way and say what refers to this edit, as when I first saw this short I saw others say “Devis mom never said that”. So please, at least try to be a decent human being and leave it be. Like the high boys at my school would say; “it’s not that deep.”

    After my dad died I'd argue a lot more than usual with my mum. My dad died a few months before my college entrance exams which are brutal in my country. I'd always been an honors student but grief took a toll on me. One day I got incredibly angry at my mum and told her to go to hell (she was basically saying that I amounted to zero due to my inability to focus on my exams and my drop in mock exam grades) and she said "keep saying that and you might send me there just like you did with your father". I told her I wished it was her that died that night too then.
    I take it back now ofc, but you all have to understand that the parent that remains should give their child double the love, affection, care and understanding. Otherwise they don't feel loved and cared for so they want to a)fight back and hurt you back and b) bring back the other parent who they think could give them those things

She wanted to hurt you worst. I hope you have gone no contact or at least low contact with this awful woman before she destroys whatever life you make for yourself. I feel Devi's pain tremendously. I lost my dad 3 years ago due to drugs and alcohol addiction. My dad was my best friend, the only one who worked in the house, and was the best father I could ever ask for. My mother never did anything to help out, and I still to this day believe it was her fault for my dad not being here anymore because he would've never gotten depressed or became addicted to drugs if she just cared about him more. I still blame my mom for everything and my opinion will never change. I often feel like Devi, and sometimes wish my mom was the one who suffered because no one in the world could replace my dad. He was the only parent that cared about me and my siblings and my mom couldn't give less of a damn. She will never change and I have to live like this for the rest of my life. I know I may sound selfish and inconsiderate, but this is how I feel. The pain never goes away no matter how badly you want it to.😢

    Honestly, both of there pain isn’t looked at properly.
    For Devi, almost the whole fandom looks at her as a “cheater” and being “crazy” instead of people realizing what she actually went through. (For the people who don’t know, she lost her dad at an orchestra concert from having a heart attack. She also got legs paralyzed for some time.)
    For Nalini, it was hard for her to take care of Devi on her own. She was being both the mom and dad for Devi. She onky wanted the best for her. She was also hurting a lot when she was “dating” doctor Jackson and she just wanted to feel loved. Also, Devi was being very disrespectful to her too.
    Edit: Also, Her mom shouldn’t have said that abt her own daughter. The mom might be going through a lot too but she shouldn’t have said that and it was all because she lost a dumb music sheet. bffr, shm🤦🏻‍♀️.

    When your child says this when they are old enough to have a memory and a conscience, you KNOW you messed up somewhere are a parent. I said it to my toxic ex-auntie after she not only verbally abused me, but left me out in the doorstep when I was 5 years old. She was awful to my mother, father, grandparents and sister, and she never apologised for it. I don’t care how old I get or how long it is until I see her daughters (my old cousins) again. I do not regret telling her to die and I hope someday I am told by her daughters that she’s fulfilled my wishes. She caused too much pain and suffering to our family and I’m scarred by how she acted. I’d go far enough to say that if she doesn’t die of natural causes, I hope the smoking and the drugs kill her off.
    I don’t usually wish this kind of thing on people, but she has lingered around our family, stalked us online, sent nasty comments to my grandparents for nearly 5 years and has brainwashed her kids into acting just like her…

    I can relate so much to devi my mom is so disrespectful and complains about how we mess up her life and plans when I came home with mail and my neighbor came up to us the next day saying I dropped some she called me useless and wishes i would use my brain I wouldn’t say this to my mom straight up I love her but sometimes you can’t control your anger.
