      I don't think she didn't like it I think she was uncomfortable. She's gotten a lot more self-assured and since she formally dated a fellow Indian & had more family (& Indian friends... All female which helped...) around her, she has really been emersed in it which definitely removed any doubts and questions remaining.

      we as nation have 2 levels of challenges for our own self image of our identity & not letting others control our narrative of our culture and identity: 1) West & Nri's descendance, jinhe hamare cultural ego/ self image ko ghol dena hai taki ek clear rasta ban jaye for influence, so we see ourselves, culture etc through their eyes & wants to make us a Subject to their world, & accept their stereotypes, their image etc on us. And want us to live their fantasy. 2 ) Western minded Elites working in film industry and otts (& Common People also) in our own nation who already have accepted doings of 1st type & encourage and promote it

      Maitreyi’s half saree is awesome but the dress material is not the flowy kind for dance hence she struggles with her leg movements a bit and even hinders her running with Ben. But she managed somehow , guess they wanted to film regardless of her costume struggle because of the huge sequence with all artists.

    The character development from the first season where she was making fun of the girls doing Indian dancing and now her doing this dance with her cousin whom she used to dislike for "being too Indian" is astronomical
    Edit: Sorry guys, I meant that the song the girls were dancing to in the first season was bollywood. (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong)
    Edit 2: sorry, for the confusion, I was wrong the girls in the 1st season weren't doing Bollywood, thank you for educating me. Because there is still some debate in the comments whether it's tollywood or kollywood, I will just leave it as "Indian Dancing."
    Edit 3: Okay I have no idea which one it is, but regardless the point still stands. Th character development from her hating her culture to embracing it is huge.

      @@serenedystopia3488 I think Saami Saami is just a good female-led wedding song, since the word “saami” can roughly be translated to “darling” or something similar, and the song is really popular in India as it stands regardless of this show. Also, I think this song is perfect for the dance routine. I could see myself dancing to Saami Saami with this choreography and feeling it matched the song, especially since there are some moves from the video song in this.

      @@-cosmixnebulae-7398 i mean sure I get that but this is a show that is marketed heavily for Tamil representation and there are like a plethora of Tamil songs perfectly suited for use in the sequence. that's like playing a Bengali song during a traditional wedding in Oriya.

    • @hmmm713
      @hmmm713 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@serenedystopia3488 this is only a problem if you think of representation from this awkward narrow minded perspective.
      This is a Tamil dub of the song. The song was extremely popular all over India in it's different dubs. No Tamil person was saying it shouldn't be played at a Tamil wedding because it was originally Telugu. That's a stupid narrow minded view of the diversity in this country.
      Why should people view everything shown in Western media that isn't white, with a perspective that it should show the highest amount of "representation" as possible or it is not giving justice to the people it's showing.
      In other times, they would have used some Hindi song from 20 years ago to represent modern South Indian music

    honestly, i get that they have the cultural representation here, which is extremely cool! But lets not forget the character development of Devi, the fact that she wished for her mom to die, to not leaving her, and how the fact she hated her indian culture at first, how she hated her cousin, to embracing her culture, and dancing with kamala, ahh it makes me so happy (yes, someone from the comment reminded me that lmaoo) getting over paxton , true, shes was a jerk at the start, but the way she started navigating through her messy teenage life (she still is), is some extremely good character development to me, and then how she is starting to embrace her culture, makes me feel proud on something that isnt real HSHSHSHS
    Edit- no need for yalls to start a war-
