- Vanlife in Flagstaff this year has been crazy from being threatened with arrest in the last video from a National Forest Ranger in the Coconino National Forest, having to move camp, getting an unexpected surprise with damage to my tire, turned away in Gallup, NM due to COVID, then finally making it to Colorado on BLM land.

You should go to south of Flagstaff..lake mary road 6 miles south turn right crimson rd (231 fr) stay on pavement till end of pavement turn left stay on dirt road till first road turn right..(296) ..or you can keep going other site.. camp anywhere also you. An walk to lake ( lower lake Mary) .. hope you have great and enjoyable.. also there is lake Mary county store ..

Story Chasing - I was ok the first couple days and then I had to take it really slow. I think I would have acclimated had I been there longer. Highest incorporated city in the US. I had never been to Colorado- probably should have started lower! 😂

I stay in Flagstaff whilst my bus is being built.. too bad y'all posted after you left.. I could have helped you during your stay at Cracker Barrel.. its literally down the street from me.. happy to know that you got things worked out.. Story Chasing I’m meeting up with a friend in Flagstaff. Colorado is my favorite state, so I’m going to try to talk her into leaving Flagstaff and going to Salido! I used to vacation in Ouray ...can’t beat the drive from Durango to Ouray. They call it the million dollar highway. Nothing like the Rocky Mts
FYI....Camping at Willard Springs, south of Flagstaff, north of Munds Park. Just off of 17. Beautiful and no problems. Tall pines.

Hi from Flagstaff, we get so many full timers in and around our city, but Willard Springs is good and has a good signal since it’s on the I-17. Public lands.org is a good site for most areas but I do recommend getting a current map. Flagstaff has been growing so fast :( and it has changed boundaries. A good trick is to stay close to USFS forest boundaries like Coconinco to Yavapai or Kaibab and jump back and forth. Good luck

Go to the coconino national forest page and download the avenza map program then the coconino map bundle. It will show you where dispersed camping is allowed. I’m currently in coconino and although a ranger has visited twice he’s been friendly and hasn’t hassled us about length of stay but he did have a couple of my friends move because they were not in a valid site. Good luck.

What an amazing place. I have never been to Colorado but it's definitely on my list of places to go. My basic van build is almost done. I hope to do some trips before I go full time. Can I ask what sites do you use to find the locations? This is what makes me nervous because I'm a planner, I know things can change especially now, but I like to have a basic plan A and B. Love the hammock. I have one in storage. Thanks for keeping it real and not sugar coating your experiences. It's important for us to know the ups and downs of life out there. I will be solo with my dogs of course, so I appreciate it!

@@AmberJBaldwin it's a 2002 Ford Econoline 150. The motor is in excellent condition. I used to have a class C but opted for the van and a small Travel Trailer. That will be home so to speak. I'll park it at a friend's in Canada as I explore there,, then to Ohio at my sons as i visit there.. But my is my main priority and has solar, water, fridge etc. It's not a high top but I wanted something basic to start out. I may travel a bit then decide to sell it for a ProMaster to add the hightop afterwards. I have both of those apps on my phone so thank you. Maybe we'll meet along the way. 🚐🌄

Enjoying your videos. I was heading back to Iowa the same time was planning on getting a hotel in Gallup until I noticed all the exits closed due to Covid. Sorry about the dork police officer, that's ridiculous. I tried to stay around Flagstaff and found it to be an unfriendly place and I ended up going over to Williams have having a much better experience.

This is so beautiful how I hope one day soon to be doing this but this COVID 19 stuff is just toooooo much with restrictions but I do understand the reason for it stay safe out their.
Phyllis Avery hopefully soon things will return to normal. Out here on rural lands, national forest, and BLM you can almost imagine life free of COVID until you go into town. It's pretty freeing.

Story Chasing I am doing mostly good. Good and bad days. I try not to watch to much news. But you have to once in a while. Trying every day to stay positive and be in the now. Here in Australia lock down is beginning to be less. I just want to get out and travel. I feel the next little while will be a measuring stick as to whether we lock down again or lighten the restrictions. Love your vlogs bye for now

When you were in Flagstaff, you should have stayed at our apartment complex, they don't keep track of unknown vehicles. Plus we have guess parking. That's where I used to sleep before I offical became a resident
I haven’t done that before though I’ve stayed at hotels along the highway. Good tip in a pinch.
Any tire shop or station with mechanic can pull screw out & plug it. Usually under 10$

Kathryn White I think it might be too warm for me especially since I don't generally stay in campgrounds on hookups and with that kind of heat I'd need to run the A/C. This time of year I generally move north or up in elevation. :)

I am sorry that you had such a terrible experience in my city. You are definitely not the first to have this experience and will probably not be the last, our Forest Service Law Enforcement are Tools and are backed by our local city government to utilize their heavy-handed power-trips. I wish you not to think too poorly about our city, but this experience is going to be quite normal throughout Coconino National Forest.

@@AmberJBaldwin Because I have spoken to many different campers that have come through Flagstaff. I used to volunteer at one of our community outreach programs, before Covid-19, and this is quite common. There are, based on the descriptions of the men, about five different Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers that like to profile people. I generally give the advise to any one that I meet that is camping here that if asked they should have a mailing address memorized, preferably from out-of-state, to give these Officers. They like to state that you can't even reside in the forests surrounding Flagstaff for even one hour. And residing in the forest is defined by them as not having another physical address. It is very hard to get this to turn in your favor if the Officer decides that they will issue a citation as the federal court here in Flagstaff is incredibly biased and the judge is bullheaded. It very rarely ended well.
I am grateful that your experience was not as bad as the norm, but I do hope that by explaining this I can help another person who wants to #VanLife or go to a Nomadic lifestyle to avoid a situation like this.
I am not trying to turn people off to my lovely city but trying to inform.
Put an app in your phone called US Public Campgrounds and that will end your problem....... No fancy resorts just free and almost free boondocking sites.
I use it all the time as my n#1 choice
there is a fee for the app on the phone with ability to put it in satellite view. but free on a laptop

@@AmberJBaldwin If you are still in Flagstaff Willard Springs Rd on I-17 is a really great spot just a few miles south of Flagstaff and Marshalls lake down Mary rd south of Flagstaff...... In the winter go to Quartzsite to the long term area

Sister Sherry Travels I have roadside assistance and I have a spare tire, but the last time I used it when I was stuck in sand with my Class C, they charged me $300 to get a tow out because I was more than 100 feet from a paved road. It's in the fine print apparently. :)

You are SO close to one of my favorite drives! Hwy 50 E / 69S / 96 E/ 165 S ending at I-25 near Colorado City. You will see Bishops Castle along the way but the drive itself is the ⭐️ i don’t know how much time you have but it is well worth the investment. Stay safe enjoy the eye candy everywhere.

Penny Thostenson More so snakes than anything. I usually carry a walking stick with me just so I can push the snake out of the way should it get too close to me or Lily.

The way the paw is written is 30 days is when you are considered a resident of the area. This is why they have a 14 day limit. Besides the wear and tear. I am sorry you had this experience. I have had no problems in Flagstaff and live discount tire. 🥰There are some beautiful places in Arizona but some of the law enforcement officers are not the best. And I know they say 14 day limit in each forest. However if it is as large as that one you might be able to do the milage thing. I think it maybe 20 miles. I can't remember but I go from Sedona to Flagstaff. Then I love yo see the Strawberry, Pine area which is still in same forest. Anyway have great travels.
Arizona is the worst place for any kind of camping. The police are extremely corrupt in that state.

The normies don't want van dwellers around. Doesn't matter if you're in a 100k rig, they don't want full timers living free. Unfortunately these days, you really can't or shouldn't be totally open and forthright with your personal life. To many people are out to ruin us. I've been van dwelling in North Idaho for 2 years and the authorities will definitely be harrasing anyone with out of state plates. A lot of people think that just because they have new expensive rigs, they won't be hassled. I've seen a lot of these rigs parked at Cabela's, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, Flying J and Love's truck stops. The van life has already jumped the shark. Many long timers with channels are now moving into the homesteading community. Even today, the mindset is that these communities don't want drifters living in or even around "their" community. Places like Lake Tahoe, which I spent 1 month there 2019 summer season has now posted No Camping signs at everywhere you go. It's really a shame.

That was terrible about the Forest ranger. I would issue a complaint about his behavior. That sucks. Be careful about the sun, remember your at 7K feet and the air is totally non protective. Yeah the mask is a great idea. Good luck in Idaho!

Flag has seen more than its fair share of wildfires from random people camping in the woods (very much not saying you're one of them), so I actually applaud Flag PD getting people out of the woods. I'm sorry you had a craptastic experience with them. I've only ever had good experiences with them.

If you plan on spending some time in Colorado, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Cuchara, CO. It is the neatest little village. My husband and I actually own a cabin there. It's our secret getaway. It's not very touristy at all. Make sure to check out The Dog Bar while you are there. There is also a small ski resort that was abandoned for many years. The county just acquired it and is making it into a county park. It's a fun place to take a hike. I’m so sorry. I live here in flagstaff and things have gotten crazy. Some of the officers are total assholes here too. Used to not be like this sadly. If you guys head down towards lake Mary and past that area I think you shouldn’t have any issues.
