the baby has also a bigger plot and theme purpose. If you just killed a pregnant women without any reason it would just be grotesque. Here it plays into the narrative that these women are picked by Immortan Joe because of their beauty because everyone of his children has some handicap or illness. He wants the "perfect" baby.
