That’s what I want to do for my kitchen countertops! Regarding the product you chose to use on top of the contact paper in the kitchen, is it safe to use so close to the oven? It isn’t flammable?
@@Cass_Unfiltered I've been using contact paper on my counters for about 8 months now. Zero problem by the stove, and I have a gas stove, so we're talking it being around literal fire. Just to be safe, I did put a silicon strip (the kind they sell to prevent crumbs and drips between cabinets and stove sides) between the stove and the edge of the counters, but I don't think it's necessary. The useless Verathane water-based finish is the only thing to do have done any damage.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I focus more on making quality videos that are informative vs. just for views/likes. The section isn't that big, so go all the way and do it all 😂. This will give you peace of mind because the surface will be smooth, and you could slide the appliances over the contact paper without damage. I would HIGHLY suggest.. Go to Dollar Tree and get those brown furniture felt pads for the bottom of both appliances if you could tilt sections over to apply them. Can you mop the floor after polyurethane? I am looking to update my RV on a severe budget but I want to keep it for a while. Trying to find out what sealer works best
Are you using it inside of an RV, of course. If you are talking about outside, which will deal with different environmental changes and weather, I would google that to see if it's recommended per the manufacturer.
@ShanettaDIYLife " Outdoor "was stated in question, so yes, it would be on the outside of the rv over fiberglass body panels. Assume a thorough cleaning would come before any materials could be applied.
Oil based is fine for a wood look contact paper but on any paper that is light, the oil based "clear" has an amber look and doesn't work well on light color or light pattern paper.
I'm flabbergasted by the amount of effort that went into this for the benefit of other people. Seriously impressed. I wanted to comment to let you know a couple of things. For starters, I think you used "Stone Coat Epoxy" and "Stone Coat Countertops" as hashtags or something because that comes up next to your video in the search. That was a smart idea two years ago when you made this but now Stone Coat has paid all these regular folks to make TH-cam videos that appear to be them doing things themselves to show or teach others (exactly like what you did in your video) when really its just a hidden ad for Stone Coat. They're sneaky. I know this video is old, but if it were me I'd want someone to let me know. So if your views have dropped on this vid, it isn't because people aren't doing their counters anymore. It's Stone Coat's weird new marketing ploy. So you may want to fiddle with your hashtags or whatever is marked "Stone Coat" and see if your views don't increase. Please feel free to delete my comment since I know I'm talking about things I shouldn't out "in public" here, lol. But I wanted to tell you because Lord knows you went to the ends of the Earth and back to test out a bunch of these in what had to be the messiest, most expensive school-project type experiment ever and Stone Coat has caught on to the fact that people want to see stuff like this and they're hijacking it. So, just a heads up. Sorry I wrote a novel here, lol. And thanks for testing this stuff so we don't have to.
I appreciate the novel 😀. I don't monitor my video views like others, however I didnt use any stone coat hashtags. They have been pushing their brand via YT ads and YT has attached my video simply because I am using similar products. It's no way to stop this as this helps them (stone coat) attach to viewers who are looking for similar videos like mine. I appreciate you telling me 100% 👏👏💚💚
Hi Victoria! Yes, this is the main reason I used it on my contact paper floor ,( plus the kids). It forms a layer that is smooth and protects it from being damaged. Check out my contact paper Playlist for other related videos with this on my floor for 1 year. Thanks for watching 👀
I’m looking to put on contact paper for my kitchen counters, I’ve already done it once but I used a small roll so there’s a lot of lines. I’m going to try it again and this time with a bigger roll. Do you think if I put polycrilic over it that it wouldn’t get stained?? Bcs there were some stains in the one I just had in it from cooking and stuff.
I can't 100% answer that simply because I make sure to wipe up spills to avoid any staining as this process is still very new to me and I don't want to have to redo anything 😅. I make sure to protect the surface before using heavily dyed products. Polycrylic form a glass like surface, so maybe 🤔
As long as the contact paper isn't in direct contact with constant water falling on it I would say all of them would work. It really boils down to personal preference. I used the oil based poly for my contact paper on floor DIY.
How does this stand up to scratching? Like dog nails or chair scooting? I’m trying to cover my dark floors but I have three big ol dogs that run across it at mock Jesus 😂
Lol, Well at the time I had a baby in a walker and two dogs that seem scratch as they walk on purpose and it held with no issues. When I removed the contact paper years later, every piece was 100% intact and come un in sheets.
You can use them on coubtertops, but I would suggest a more durable option like epoxy resin. I did this to mine and will upload a new video soon on how to do this as well. Thanks for watching.
@@ShanettaDIYLife I’m planning on using contact paper for my kitchen counter tops. Everyone seems to also say epoxy resin is the best because it is very durable, however, I’m renting. Do you have any experience or knowledge with removing the contact paper when it’s been sealed with epoxy when it’s time to move out?
I don't but ( don't do that yet as I want to try 1st) that would be a good idea for a new video. I love experimenting! I've started to redo my kitchen counters that have epoxy resin on it and it does come off. It's labor intensive, but I'm not sure if the barrier from the contact paper would make it easier. Stay tuned 😉
I don't drag furniture, so mines has no issue. The longevity will depend on the user overall. My kids and dogs go about normal life while playing on these floors.
Let's be honest, dragging a chair or anything across any floor will do some sort of damage 😬 if you don't have felt pads underneath. However, I did drag a heavy chair I updated over my contact paper floor and nothing happened, but I immediately applied those felt pads I mentioned because who wants to risk messing it up and doing it all over again? Not I 😅
I personally would do resin because I personally want the protection resin gives. I can wipe the counter 1000 times without needing to recoat down the road.
I would say yes as long as you don't get the product on the counter or where ever you want to do this. I showed me removing this from a floor and only had to remove a little residue. Just be careful and good luck

I appreciate you telling me 100% 👏👏💚💚
Does the polyurethane hold up well with animals? I have 5 dogs and I'm worried about their claws scratching the floor.
I wish there was a scratch test because I’m trying to prevent rips in my kitchen
Rips?
I'm thinking of putting contact paper on shower surround, what one would you think would be best for that?
As long as the contact paper isn't in direct contact with constant water falling on it I would say all of them would work. It really boils down to personal preference. I used the oil based poly for my contact paper on floor DIY.
Can I still peel up the contact paper when I’m ready to restore the floors back to original condition at move-out?
Yes, If you only use two thin coats like I did you can. Anymore would make it harder to remover based on other experiences.
Thanks so much for this reply! I look forward to documenting renter friendly DiY when I move in a couple of months. This has been very helpful
Is the 1st one easy to pull off when comes time to do so?
I was used the oil based version and took that one off. You would have to try and see.
If I want to use on counter tops the 1st & last is a good choice right?
You can use them on coubtertops, but I would suggest a more durable option like epoxy resin. I did this to mine and will upload a new video soon on how to do this as well. Thanks for watching.
@@ShanettaDIYLife I’m planning on using contact paper for my kitchen counter tops. Everyone seems to also say epoxy resin is the best because it is very durable, however, I’m renting. Do you have any experience or knowledge with removing the contact paper when it’s been sealed with epoxy when it’s time to move out?
@@alyssaqueenan6122 epoxy will not come up, epoxy is permanent
I don't but ( don't do that yet as I want to try 1st) that would be a good idea for a new video. I love experimenting! I've started to redo my kitchen counters that have epoxy resin on it and it does come off. It's labor intensive, but I'm not sure if the barrier from the contact paper would make it easier. Stay tuned 😉
That is not true and many people who have never tried to remove it says the same thing. A new video debunking this myth will be uploaded soon.
So how does it hold up to furniture on the polyurethaned contact floor?
I don't drag furniture, so mines has no issue. The longevity will depend on the user overall. My kids and dogs go about normal life while playing on these floors.
Can you use it on your countertops, the fourth one looked the best to me.
You could
I have a question what about things like chair dragging wouldn't the peel ones be easily strached off?
Let's be honest, dragging a chair or anything across any floor will do some sort of damage 😬 if you don't have felt pads underneath. However, I did drag a heavy chair I updated over my contact paper floor and nothing happened, but I immediately applied those felt pads I mentioned because who wants to risk messing it up and doing it all over again? Not I 😅
@@ShanettaDIYLife thank you
Thank you for this ❤
Are any of the coatings for contact paper on a countertop food grade?
Not to my knowledge.
This video was very helpful in an overall explanation of how each product work. Thank you. 3/13/24
I'm happy to hear it helped you in some way.
Which product would you recommend to seal contact paper in a kitchen counter?
I personally would do resin because I personally want the protection resin gives. I can wipe the counter 1000 times without needing to recoat down the road.
@@ShanettaDIYLifewhich one is that?
Is the contact paper floor slippery without any polyurethane coating?
No
Who puts it on floors??
thank you SO SO SO MUCH ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Is this ok for rental
I would say yes as long as you don't get the product on the counter or where ever you want to do this. I showed me removing this from a floor and only had to remove a little residue. Just be careful and good luck
You can use contact paper on a floor?
Yup, Edith seeing is believing 👌 Check out my "Contact Paper on floor" Playlist. I have many informative videos. Thanks for watching
I’m a retired teacher, so I know! 😉
Will uv resin stick to it?
I can't answer that.
@@ShanettaDIYLife because you dont know?
Correct
Who puts contact paper on a floor? 😳🙄
If you have to ask this question, I'm unsure why you watched the video.
I just did it and it’s a really quick fix until you’re able to get something new
talking too much just do it i just need to know if i could put poly on contact paper
You should be grateful for the FREE information.
😜
Amazingly informative! Thank you!!
