Always. I'm a Kennedy in NC, from a branch that settled Eastern NC prior to the American revolution, around 1735. William Kennedy, born 1690 in Ayrshire Scotland. A cousin of ours was a historian by craft and professor emeritus of history down at Augusta University. He wrote much of the family history, and much was handed down, being an old Southern family of prominence in NC. I read a sketch he wrote of the chief of Clan Kennedy coming over to NC in the late 1800's and staying a while with my 3rd and 4th great grandfathers, John Bryan Kennedy and his father John Thomas Kennedy. John Bryan was a Confederate veteran of note and a doctor, John Thomas was a planter, Colonel of NC Cavalry, sheriff, builder, educational leader, state senator. I grew up being taught and desiring to learn family history, I was unaware that the chieftain had actually stayed with them until a couple of years ago. My great uncle, General John Thomas Kennedy, West Point grad and CMOH recipient also wrote a short history of the NC branch of the family.
The Kennedy's branched off from the De Carrick's I believe. I think we were also cousins of the Bruce's even before Robert The Bruce. The Bruce's also descended from the De Carrick's.
@@commanderNSO You're right, I thought we were kin to JFK, but actually, the "Kennedy" we are part of was derived from the name of a Breton warrior chief, Cunnedah, who was sent as a mercenary or something to Galloway, there he assimilated into the local Gaelic culture and his name became "Kennedy", which the same name, but not the same line at all.
Really loved listening and learning about my ancestors.
Me 2! Hello family! 😊
It’s a great day to be a Kennedy.

My last name is Carrick, and my dad is always talking about how much he hates "the Kennedy's". Boy, did I have a surprise for him...
