Clan MacAlpine
Dive into the rich tapestry of Scotland's history with today's episode of "A Clan A Day Podcast," where we explore the storied legacy of Clan MacAlpine! Known as one of the oldest and most revered Scottish clans, MacAlpine traces its origins to King Kenneth MacAlpin, the legendary unifier of the Scots and Picts in the 9th century. From the battle-hardened legacy of Alpin, Kenneth’s father, to the creation of the Kingdom of Alba, Clan MacAlpine stands at the heart of Scotland’s royal beginnings.
Discover the profound symbolism of the MacAlpine motto, “Cuimhnich Bàs Ailpein” (“Remember the Death of Alpin”), a tribute to resilience and unity. Explore historic landmarks like Dunstaffnage Castle, a Pictish royal stronghold turned political center, and Dunadd, where Kenneth consolidated his power. Despite losing prominence by the late medieval period, Clan MacAlpine’s cultural revival shines through events like the 2016 Family Convention, where Michael Todd McAlpin Sr. was recognized as Clan Commander.
Uncover the clan’s unique ties to the Siol Alpin network, their vibrant tartan, and the enduring spirit of their diaspora, who carried their heritage across the globe. This episode is a celebration of resilience, unity, and Scotland’s ancient legacy. Tune in and be inspired by the fascinating tale of Clan MacAlpine!

Edit - 1:10 my Grandfather (Elliott) once told me that his ancestors were 'chased' out of Scotland for stealing sheep. His branch of the clan were based in South Devon, England - so they got chased a long fkin way!

Thank you for sharing this. My family are native Alaskan, and fishing has been in our family as far back as our history. Even our tribble name means driftwood as we fallowed the Salmon runs from Western Alaska and down to the NW coast of Washington state. I've got friends and family on memorials. Back some years ago due to an ineffective regulatory commission on fishing the Alaskan Halibut season opened right as a big storm was pushing in on SE Alaska. Normally most skippers would have sat in a bay nearby to wait it out but we were forced to go out and that night and on into the fallowing morning there where so many emergencies called in that the National guard was tapped to help in the rescue efforts and one helicopter had to land on a rock in the middle of the storm to wait out the storm. I think it was in 1996. I was a kid, and I remember that night. Heering all the mayday calls over the radio as us and one of my uncles where stuck off the coast bucking in to waves that where literally submerging our boats.
