A great tour that showed Vingegaard's continued evolution as a cyclist and excelling in every domain. From two years ago when he dropped Pog on Ventoux we knew he had it in him and he's certainly delivered this year. For me the main thing is that Jonas and Jumbo had a very selective build-up to Tour, while Pog had a busy Classics campaign, and then of course a month off to recover from a wrist fracture. That plus losing time early on meant he was probably expending more energy trying to gain back time each day. I love that Pog is a bike racer to his core, but I wonder if him and his team will change his build-up to the Tour for future years.

Vingegaard said around a week ago to the Danish media, that this stage and perhaps also to a lesser extend stage 16 would be decisive of who was going to win the tour. It would seem that he was right. According to a Danish TV expert/former tour rider who was out there himself to get a "feel" of stage 16. he got passed several times by Jonas, who was out there doing the most difficult parts more than once, to be even more prepared.
Pogacar on the other hand spend most of that day resting, and he has done no other time-trials this year, to prepare for this, unlike Jonas. Jonas has simply been more focused, better prepared and taking advantage of his lower weight and having refined his technique, leaving Pog's brute force behind.

Honestly, as a dane furiously rooting for Vingegaard, I was heartbroken to hear Pogis voice on the UAE team radio. Their rivalry is not like others from past tours. They respect each other, and they know that they make each other better. The best kind of enemies. And thus, deep down, I wanted the tour to be decided within seconds. Pogi is a class all of his own, and he deserves all the praise that he gets and more. Perhaps the later stages were just better for Vingegaard, or perhaps Pogi peaked to early. But oh my what a battle the two have had, and I can not wait to see their battles ahead! We are living in a golden age of the sport, ane we should all appreciate that! ❤

  • @brunoaramburu740
    @brunoaramburu740 ปีที่แล้ว +24

In line with the title of the video, today marked the culmination of a perfectly executed plan from TJV to crack Pogacar. It started 2 weeks ago, when Jonas effortlessly opened a 50" gap with Tadej. Until last Saturday, he let Tadej use every chance he had to attack, and they let him shorten the gap slowly, basically consuming much more energy that it would have taken in a single stage, recall Puy de Dome for instance. I think TJV had perfectly calculated that Jonas would never lose the maillot jaune. Last Saturday, Jonas recovered in the easiest possible way 1" without wasting much energy, and on Sunday he showed how well his legs were, but anyway still decided to hold back and go all in after the last rest day in optimal conditions. These last 2 weeks, Tadej instead was made to believe he was chasing actually a real chance to claim the maillot jaune, and in the decisive stage, he didn't have anything left in his legs after two weeks full of attacks, one after the other. All UAE bought the TJV bluff from the very beginning.

TP is a great rider but this year he lacked training, especially altitude training. He broke his wrist and while recovering he could not prepare himself as he otherwise would have. I beleive the biggest reason for TPs collapse was lack of training most of any of the other factors mentioned above.

2 wins so far this year (won't jinx it and call tdf just yet) First Itzulia Basque country, then Criterium du Dauphine. So I'd say he's peaked twice already.

Great content. I just feel that JV was "cracking" Pogi for 2 weeks. They made the race super hard knowing POGI is 2 impetuous and will go for all the bonus seconds. Burning up himself while JV knew he did not have the depth of fitness to deal with the 3rd week.

Anybody know why Pogi had kinesio tape on his stomach? Not suggesting it was cause for his implosion but he did mention that his nutrition didn’t end up in his legs. Any digestive or muscular issues before the stage that could have been part of this unfortunate stage for him?

I was disappointed you didn't have the Pello Bilbao highlight punching that buffoon "fan" in the head. I hope that guy was seeing stars.
I understand the excitement of the fans, but they're really disrespectful to the cyclists...using flares and impeding their ability to pass. Luckily the debacle with Jonas the car/motorbike/fans didn't change anything on the stage. I think the riders should be given tazers.
Great job Jonas and my boy Sepp Kuss doing his thing...i loved Sepp's huge smile on the final climb before the finish...what a team player!
Up the Jumbo Visma boys 🌕🌑🌕

It was ineos that cracked pogi!! They were lifting the pace majority of the day chasing the breakaway

I think alot of people discounted pogis lack of training from his broken wrist. He was looking great but it obviously had a substantial toll. No doubt he'll look much better next year

It's called he didn't process enough calories and bonked hard. Happens to all of us.

It happens. Jonas is the best rider in 3 weeks at the moment. Obviously tadej is not far behind, he will comeback stronger at next year tour. It will be also nice to see them at the giro and vuelta in the future, i think both will win this races one day.

Hitting the deck made things lots worse for Pogacar, but that error, so out of character for him, appears to be a loss of focus due to fatigue. Had he not gone down he still would likely have given up major time to JV.

I was rooting for Jonas, but it was sad to see Pogi to go like that saying he was dead. He's quite the character and the respect he keeps with his rival is beautiful! The gap will not tell the whole story of this tour.

Human after all...TBH he's been looking "sick" for several days, even on Joux Plane he looked ghostly. After being crushed yesterday everything just unraveled. A spectacular collapse that's seldom seen in GTs (apart from Yates at the 2018 Giro of course).
