The people saying, "Kill the animals" are not actually psychopaths who enjoy killing living beings. "Saving the animals" is a hidden trick in Super Metroid that requires going in the wrong direction to find and save some animal characters. Anyone trying for the best possible time would never do it, they would opt to "Kill the animals, save the frames."
There have been a few elite runners who deliberately handicapped themselves this way but still got the world record (for a short time). This history is why saving/killing the animals is such an exciting decision for many people, and why it's one of the most popular donation incentives for GDQ events.
Thank you for this! This video came up on my suggestions and decided to watch since i am replaying this game. I was horrified at the “kill the animals” statements. Now i wont feel terrible watching and supporting the channel

The reader's young link impression was actually pretty darn accurate IMO. Not quite as sharp and piercing as the real thing, but still very good.

Heh, around the 14 minute area she read a donation from a "Chris Houlihan"... that's the name of the kid that won that sweepstakes to have his name put in the game(but the room can only be found through glitching and similar means).

+Uchiha Madara It's a failsafe room. It's where the game defaults your destination to if you can't be put anywhere else.

Very inspiring. Just finished my first playthrough after watching this and am happy to say that I managed to pull off the Ice Palace trick. Still, I returned later to get blue vest.

Two things about Patty here. First, thank you. Now, I can never not see a cowboy hat with the wise men. Second, I found the video from Kholdstare that was referenced during the Ice Palace. Can't help but feel good watching him get it perfectly clean after a lot of time into it.

One of the most influential games ever. It's like almost every top-down action indie game owes something to it. Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, and Hyper Light Drifter just to name a few.

Whaaaaat, holy fuck! I, honestly, had no idea that elder guy was a bald elf, I always saw a dude in cowboy hat. I mean, the kid you chase down with the boots in Kakariko is wearing a cowboy (ish) hat, so I just never questioned it...

Same here. I don’t understand the reference at all.
It’s referencing something in Super Metroid. When you are finishing the game you have the option to save the animals before you are done or you can bypass them and end the game. It’s slower to save them which is why they typically don’t in speed runs.

quick question which they probably mentioned in the begining, idk. But if it's 100% completion, why didn't he raise his bombs and arrows capacity. also does this game have a wallet upgrades like uhh... is it minish cap?
+Sesshomaru474 No wallet upgrades. Bombs and arrows have been ignored since 2003 or so. There's no corresponding inventory item for bombs and arrows either.
Sahasrahla isn’t bald but he is wearing a hat. In the manga you can see he’s wearing a hood similar to links but semi skin tone to his own.
I always get confused at the different runs for this game. I am assuming this run is 100% glitchless. there are other 100% runs for this game that use EG or other glitches right?
Amazing run. I have a question about the controller. Since mine is about 25 years old its starting to not work quite well anymore.. where do these guys get their controller from? since they use it so hardcore, i guess they're controllers are done much faster than mine..
There are cheapo third party replacement controllers you can get on ebay for like $10. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and wanna repair it, there's a rubber bit that separates the buttons from the board in the controller that wears down over time. Getting replacements of those is even cheaper.
At what time and how is the boomerang obtained? I must have totally missed it.

After you get the power gloves (after the dungeon where you get the second pendant) you can go to a graveyard area on the map, push a tomb and go inside... you will drop on the other side of that broken wall.
I am sure they are some goods there, like rupees and probably arrows/bombs.

On the last gannon, i think I remember that if you dont run to be right by him after he teleports, he will stay put. Like try to be as far away from him as you can and he stays at his first port i thought... am I wrong?
He'll always teleport after each attack and there is no way to know where he'll show up.
right, but I think you can avoid him immediately teleporting back to back if you stay as far away as possible the first time and don't run toward him when he appears, i think there is a buffer of a few seconds after he appears. i dunno seemed like i remembered that, maybe not

+Davey wavey Super Metroid was an upcoming speed-run. Throughout the game, there are friendly animals you find that teach you certain abilities. During the final phase in the game where you have to escape the planet before it blows up, you can come across the animals trapped in a side room. It's completely optional to free them before the planet explodes because it doesn't do anything, but it wastes more time. And considering these are speed runs, it's more optimal to not waste time saving them. So the people that were donating money were putting money towards either having the player waste time saving them or ignoring them and letting them die when the planet blows up.

At the end of each GDQ event, there's a Super Metroid run, and people donate and vote whether to save or kill the animals at the end of the game.

They are in a hidden room in the escape sequence. It's ridiculously unlikely to find them without a hint or weird chance. (Obviously your comment is 4 months old so you may already know this.)

Allen Warden The magic bat makes your magic go twice as long. “Half magic” is the name of it, but it actually gives you twice as much magic. The bat is confused and actually does the opposite of what he curses Link.
So it’s a good thing to get half magic.

As a general rule, if the title doesn't say otherwise, in-bounds glitches/zips are OK, but going out of bounds isn't. OoB is generally considered a separate category, since in many games it lets you walk directly from the start point to the end flag, thereby negating the entire point of the game (Link to the Past being one such example). That said, there are some games where even OoB glitches don't save much time. so there are always exceptions.

There is a category for literally everything in the game. All maps, compasses, bomb and arrow upgrades, etc. And guys still manage it in about 2 hours.

The chest in your house, the chest on the screen after you find your uncle, and the chest with Zelda, all either contain the Lamp or a blue rupee, but they're all scripted to get the Lamp first. Not opening the first two chests means the one with Zelda will have the Lamp.

It's a bid war between killing and saving animals at the end of super metroid. Choosing to kill or save has no actual effect on the outcome on the game, other than the time. Not saving them ("killing" even tho you don't actually do anything other than not rescue them) saves I think 21 seconds on a run.
If you save them you get a tiny animation at the final cinematic where a small (8 pixels?) purple dot leaves the planet at the same time as your ship.
