Perfect album. One of the best British albums ever, Waterfall is a masterpiece, Made Of Stone, Shoot You Down and This Is The One are timeless classics. You’ll dig this album. Make sure you include the full 9 minute version of Fools Gold too.
My little co-worker Valentina (25 yrs old) turned me (61) on to their song "I Want To Be Adored" so I bought their greatest hits cd. Lots of really good stuff on it. Thanks Sweetie!
Great tune, but it's always sounded too thin and toppy compared to the album tracks.....probably because it was recorded by Peter Hook in his own studio.
I played this album so much when it came out in 1989 in Ireland and then when I worked in record stores too, now 35 years later I still play this song in my car , I have never tired of this album ♥️
Aw man, this song is such a mood! One time I heard this song playing at Banana Republic and I freaked out. Whoever makes their playlists is awesome. Such a fantastic album.
The Stone Roses were a punk band that had a psychedelic edge. The songs on the first album were reworked over a five year period finally being recorded after ecstasy hit in 1988. This combined with John Leckie's production gives the record a spacious sound with propelling rhythms. Magic.
Jangle sounds good this morning, about to try a new pedal this morning. A Timmy clone , v1 Danelectro Transparent Overdrive… maybe it jangles… maybe not. How ‘bout some more jangle, more of The Church, Reptile album or The Mighty Lemon Drops, At Midnight or Where Do We Go From Heaven (Laughter album). Be well everyone.
One of the best albums of all time in my opinion. Manchester produced these the smiths joy division the happy Mondays inspiral carpets James the list is endless 😊
Theres a big Manchester Orientated Tributes Act gig on 2X a Year in Manchester called ADORED. It's usually a 12 Hour affair wi and a lot o fun, have you been to it?
You got it JP, having seen the Roses many times Live, when this song is played the stadium/hall whatever is a sea of smiling faces and people dancing 🙂
Summer 90, my friend's cool older sister Kat sells me all her Cure stuff for peanuts, explaining: "I'm into the Stone Roses and Bob Dylan now." I was baffled but overjoyed at those oversized Robert Smith posters. Now I'm much much older and she's an Italian princess, much much older as well. I'm sure she still bangs the drums.
Yeah, a brill track on a top album. Great playing, melody, energy... Even as a Scouse, I deffo had to doff my cap to the Manc boys during this period. A whole host of excellent bands were knocking it out the park. A fave of mine being, New Fast Automatic Daffodils. Give there track 'Beatlemania' a spin. Boss stuff, man.
Ian brown said you make what you want of the lyrics. Some think athus is a song with drug referances, as a lit of songs back then were referneces to drugs. An absolute classic. 'She' is the drug .
Greatest debut album ever in my opinion, second coming is brilliant but gets poor reviews. Breaking into heaven is amazing up there with i am the resurrection
The song is summed up by the line "You're all out of time" because she's banging the drums, she's keeping the time. Great song but I'd have preferred a 3rd verse instead of just chorus chorus chorus no matter how catchy it is. Great album.
I remember reading somewhere that that verse was dedicated to the Rolling Stones, who invited them to be their opening act at some concert which they refused.
After hearing it first ~35 years ago, I still maintain that the opening guitar chord after the opening bass riff sounds a little flat. Anyone else agree?
Other Stone Roses songs require you to get caught up in the legend. Being a fan of “I Wanna Be Adored” requires you to adore Ian Brown. In order to love “I Am The Resurrection” you need to believe that Ian truly is both the resurrection and the light. You need to accept the fundamental truth that, in 1989, The Stone Roses were the greatest band in the universe. This isn’t necessary for “She Bangs The Drums.” “She Bangs The Drums” does not require you to buy into the myth. That’s because “She Bangs The Drums” is such a perfect pop song that it will have you ranting that the Stone Roses are the greatest band in the universe even if you hadn’t already been told a million times that they were the greatest band in the universe.
That was enjoyable. But if you get in the mood for something brutal there's always the song *Schweinfurt* (which has a lot to do with pigs for some reason) th-cam.com/video/Cwrd98StGHM/w-d-xo.html
I profess to liking three or four tracks on their debut, plus the standalone funk-fest of 'Fools Gold', but if ever an album was hyped to the hilt it's this one. It just isn't that good!
The Stone Roses didn't make a bad album. I've said this many times, but you will like all of the Stone Roses and Kitchens of Distinction albums. Ian Brown is a bit of an asshole who is full of himself, but if you can get past that you'll be in for a good ride.
Fun fact…. My cat Brooke loves this song. Every time I crank it up she goes and sits next to the speaker.
I had a cat that was the same way about Sonic Youth's Goo, especially the song Scooter and Jinx.

I always took “she bangs the drums” for when you see someone you really like or are in love with that makes your heart race fast.
i can agreed that

I’d even go as far to recommend you react to the bonus track “Elephant Stone!” A PHENOMENAL tune! Has always been my #1 favorite Stone Roses song
Great tune, but it's always sounded too thin and toppy compared to the album tracks.....probably because it was recorded by Peter Hook in his own studio.

In the UK in the '90s the arguement was who was better, Oasis or Blur? My answer was alway The Stone Roses.💯
Each song on this LP is great. As you continue, you will come to experience its greatness. 😂❤
An incredible band, its a crime they didn't make more albums. I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. Totally blew my mind!

A truly transcendent psychedelic pop masterpiece!!
Such an infectious bassline only rivalled by I Am The Resurrection.
Worth repeating: This is an obvious call for the Greatest Debut Albums list.
Some albums are just made to be played in sequence. This is one. It's a classic.
Glorious. I thought it was about Mo Tucker from V U.
That whole album is fantastic.
Great assessment man...ive never really focused too much on lyrics, you describe it well
Great reaction. Great song.
Can you tell me what that cool display is you have in the background?
Reminds me of college in late eighties early nineties - miss those days so much it hurts
Love love love this gem. ❤

The Church would be great. Maybe also the La's, some Go-Betweens, or even (dare I mention a local band of mine) The Chills?

@@SPKdesign1 I wanna I wanna I wanna be adored!
Whoever recommended this, they're right, every track is worth a listen.
Speaking of drums, the drummer Mani is a Beast.
Reni, Mani is the bassist.
@@JaEDLanc oops.

their best tune by a mile :)

Well, you have to appreciate the music...plus they had to put up with growing up in Manchester
A track to hear if you haven't already is 'Flowered Up's iconic 'Weekender'. DO IT! 😉
One of the better songs in the album. That, I'm the resurrection, and Made Of Stone.
It’s the perfect album no better or worse songs just favourites
I hope you do their song Fools Gold soon. Amazing song.
If so, make sure it's the extended version!
Very good!!! Personally, "Love Spreads" is my Stone Roses' favorite...
now are do many people randomly finding the dtone roses 35 years later ill like anf watch everyone i see they dre in my top 3 with pink floyd anc gnr
Sounded like a theme song for an 80s or 90s tv show. Kinda catchy.
smiles innit bruv

BIH is their masterwork.

I agree, at that point it just repeats and my gut said something should have happened there, something.
Could you please react to Blur? Like Country House, Beetlebum or Charmless Man. Love your reactions!
After hearing it first ~35 years ago, I still maintain that the opening guitar chord after the opening bass riff sounds a little flat. Anyone else agree?
Great album. Sadly their second didn't live up. But there was business issues

I've always considered this band a one-hit wonder, and this was their hit. wonderful track.
One Album wonder, more like it. EVERY track is stellar.

It is.
They were better live.
@@paulcollins5586 I never saw them, but i don't doubt it!
@@Owlstretchingtime78 Nah...they always sounded better on record. Brown's voice let them down live.
Agreed
I was hoping there would be no drums. That would've been funny.
