Everyone keeps saying "Go into the trades" but that ship has already sailed. I have friends who went to trade school last year chasing that bag and now they both work at Walmart because no one wants to apprentice new hires for trade jobs. Tradesmen are enjoying all the work they're getting right now and adding an extra employee to their crew just means another person to split the profits with so they'll only do it if they're getting more work than their current workforce can handle. The end result is even the trades have become hard to get into because everyone currently working in the trades knows it's about to be flooded with new applicants so they're hoarding all the work and getting that bag while the going is good. I don't blame them, but it just really goes to show that there is no easy meal ticket in today's job market.
Thank you!! Every time I go on a video like this there’s always some boomer in the comment section telling everyone to go into trades and make six figures breaking your back. Trades shouldn’t be the only option and it’s not even a guarantee for success.

unemployment figures are fudged numbers. The numbers only include people that got laid off from a job and is currently looking for work while collecting unemployment. Once, their unemployment is off they drop those from the number. They just assume they found job when in reality most don't find one and t hey exhausted the unemployment and they're either homeless or living with family or friends. They're hiding the fact that the economy is bad and the jobs they're creating are just labor jobs that aren't careers.

So despite having been out of work for two entire years because not even McDonald's will respond to my job applications, I am not included in that figure.
@@kaijuultimax9407 No, unemployment is strictly based on what you paid into it. What you're talking about is welfare. The unemployment rate is only people collecting unemployment. It doesn't count people on welfare or anyone that isn't working. The people that are getting unemployment once that runs out. They take you off the unemployment rate which is why you see big drops after a while and they will report the economy is improving when in reality it's not because they assume the people that exhausted unemployment must have found a job. In reality they can just exhausted the unemployment and then end up moving in with either parents or friends or if they don't have that support they end up in the streets. I got 2 degrees Accounting and Finance graduated in 2015. I couldn't get internships nor entry level jobs. The main reason why Gen Z which I fall in that category are not working or don’t want to work is because we are fighting for better conditions/pay at these companies! However back then in the 90s these companies had more to offer there employees, they also recognized hard work loyalty and all that. The companies would also pay you for what your worth and would want to keep you. Now they want people to shut up with their head down and work until they die and us being GenZ definitely don’t think that’s right.

Gen Z are lining up to do what we do. I hear the words "dream job" quite a bit. Very long hours daily, we all left home in August, and we will get back home mid-December. We're compensated very well for our work. We have different positions, but as an example, I'm a touring live sound engineer. The kid sitting across the table from me right now is a guitar tech.
Ive worked for a large roofing company for 10 years now but I’m in the office I’m an estimator. There are a lot of construction jobs out there where you don’t have to be outside killing yourself. The thing is if you’re in a good spot stay with the company and grow there instead of job hopping. Also I highly encourage people to visit the business you want to work at and speak to someone face to face. This is old school and highly appreciated by the folks who run these companies who are also old school.

I’m 39 and have been married to a 47 yr old mechanic for 11 years. He rebuilds transmissions. I met him 14 years ago and he opened his shop 20 years ago. I was going to beauty school when we met but I dropped out because I got pregnant. I had a miscarriage, we still continued dating, and eventually got married. He told me to come work with him at the shop. In 2016, I was put as second owner of the business. We have no children so we just invest our extra money in farmland property. I think the best thing to do now is self employed trade jobs. Many men he fixes trucks for are landscapers, construction contractors, HVAC, roofing, siding, drywall and plumbing repair workers. Taco trucks too. Get your license/training and open a small business. It’s hard on the body but the income is good.

Nice attempt, recruiter - trying to sell us on the work culture bullshit. Shaming those who want to work less and enjoy their lives and families and friends NOW; after having been through a pandemic that has shown us that life can be taken away at any moment. And trying to encourage people to do that side hustle bullshit: work more and exhaust yourself more so you get the "EXPERIENCE" that "will pay dividends you will enjoy in your later years" when you will be too old and probably too ill to enjoy it.
And how are we supposed to live NOW? How do we PAY OUR BILLS WITH "EXPERIENCE"? Especially when you're telling us NOT to be picky about pay. I mean, why don't we all just become volunteers? No pay at all. Just experience.
_Not being picky about pay_ is PRECISELY how people get exploited and end up having to quit or strike/protest or just end up mentally, emotionally, and physically burnt out. People SHOULD be paid more for what they are doing WITHOUT having to work more; there is enough wealth in the world for that to happen. It HAS happened in the past, and it DOES happen NOW for those privilged enough. We are NOT slaves. Slavery is illegal.
The more you are willing to work and just accept the bullshit pay, the more you will be exploited and get nothing for it. Accepting this problem WILL NOT solve it.
We SHOULD be standing up against this bullshit and demanding better. We exist for far greater purposes that just "hustling" 24/7/365.

I don't blame them, but it just really goes to show that there is no easy meal ticket in today's job market.

unemployment figures are fudged numbers.
I'm part of that number, I got a computer science degree in 2022 (if you know anything about the tech job market, you'll know this means the degree isn't even worth the paper it's printed on) but haven't been able to get any work since graduating, but because I live with my mom I don't qualify for unemployment because she has a job and unemployment eligibility is based on household income, not individual income.
At that time there wasn't much where I live but now it's rare to find internships or entry level jobs. There's less in my area and too many people with degrees running around looking for work. My best advice for those needing money, sell digital courses (or even tutor/teach classes) on skills you already have. For example, if you do hair, know how to cook, play sports as a hobby, etc. Build an audience around that thing, then teach other people about it

The Great Resignation is over and no one is quitting anymore bc there is nothing, meaning no space for those looking. 7%? that means 93% are hired, those numbers are completed fabricated, its more like 70% arent getting hired
Construction is not safe either, at least with new construction. Same with truck driving. Where I’m from new construction projects are taken over by Mexican and Guatemalan migrants. Hard workers, but the point is that the trades aren’t as “safe” as people thought it was going to be. AI might not take your construction job, but they will outsource migrants for cheaper labor.
The cost of a used semi alone is nuts let alone trying to find hauls which usually you will need to contract with company it isn't cheap. I do a lot of carpentry work and it is hard to find jobs let alone find one where they are going to pay you big bucks to do work, people are broke they cannot afford to pay extremely high prices for your labor plus the costs of materials.

Even in 2010s applying to jobs via indeed or other systems wasn’t how to get even an interview. You need to network or directly connect with people. Even better is a friend or connection. Or work on projects and make them public. Most jobs are real but they hire like 1-2 people. No one wants more resumes.. when you post a listing using hiring software you get so many resumes that the challenge he is deciding which ones to even review. This is why direct connection or standing out matters. No hiring manager wants to have more resumes on hand.

Apply to as many government jobs as you can. State, county, local, federal, whatever. In many cases they are required to actually sift though every single applicant and will almost always get back to you with a direct response. Whether it’s positive or negative. Government jobs aren’t just thrown up willy nilly, if you see something advertised then it definitely exists and they need someone for that role. No such thing as a fake job posting on a government website. However, the main downside with government hiring processes are how long they take. Because they have to comb through every applicant it can take months to hear back.

The main reason why Gen Z which I fall in that category are not working or don’t want to work is because we are fighting for better conditions/pay at these companies! Also these companies only want workers they can take advantage of. For example not having to include a benefits package, not paying a good wage, not offering a good work life balance etc). However back then in the 90s these companies had more to offer there employees, they also recognized hard work loyalty and all that. The companies would also pay you for what your worth and would want to keep you. Now they want people to shut up with their head down and work until they die and us being GenZ definitely don’t think that’s right.
