    Thanks so much for this video. After my boyfriend had a small crash the only ossue was a gimble vibration error. This video was the only one we could find that helped us resolve the problem!

    Thank you so much! This seemed to help fix my issue with the really bad gimbal shake after I auto calibrated the gimbal on my phone and then did this.

    It is interesting. I had motor overload problem, changed the ribbon, but again every now and then problem returned, and I had jello effect or image vibration every flight (for just few seconds), there was nothing to do anymore. The other day drone tells me to calibrate sensors with DJI assistant and I do it.....no more gimbal overload issue or jello vibration....works like new now. It is hard to understand but it does help. THX man for sharing this video.

    Hi everyone,
    Just to give you some feedback on DJI after-sales support that I contacted after a "Gimbal motor overload" problem.
    After 60 flights with no issue (I only had a very small crash on flight 3, but then the remaining flights were trouble-free), the "gimbal motor overload" issue suddenly occurred after a firmware update.
    I tried everything, upgrading the firmware,,starting the Mavic upside down or sideways, which worked for a few seconds only, but to no avail. The problem seemed serious.
    I contacted DJI last saturday, had a reply the following day on sunday ! They asked me to do different things (firmware upgrade, IMU calibration, gimbal auto calibration) but it didn't fix the issue and the gimbal auto-calibration wouldn't even complete, stopping at 31%...
    They then asked me to send the Mavic back to the Netherlands (I live in France). They issued a UPS label and I yesterday dropped the Mavic at the nearby UPS store, it is now in transit.
    So, first thing is to mention that up to now they have been quite reactful.
    I also asked why this gimbal error could occur, and this is what they replied :
    Hello Michel,
    Thank you for contacting DJI NL Technical Support.
    Good to hear that you have already a case number for this case. aside from that here's the typical issue below with the gimbal.
    1) The gimbal shakes or its direction cannot be controlled. The reason may be that the flat cable socket inside the camera, which transmits data between the gyroscope in the main board of the gimbal and the IMU of the flight controller, get loosened or has a poor contact. In this case, the gimbal compartment needs to be replaced. (The gimbal main board is integrated to the gimbal and the gyroscope has been calibrated before shipment. The gimbal board cannot be removed individually; otherwise,the gyroscope cannot be calibrated.)
    2) The gimbal cannot center after auto-calibration and its Roll axis needs to be adjusted manually. This issue occurs because the firmware of the gimbal main board has not been upgraded. The earlier versions of firmware do not have the storage function, which requires the Roll axis to be adjusted manually after every start-up. To resolve this issue, send the drone to DJI to upgrade the gimbal main board to the latest firmware (internal software and firmware).
    3) A jello effect occurs. It may be caused by the Pitch-axis error and can be fixed by using the IMU advanced calibration in the DJI GO app.
    4) A black screen or red screen occurs, or a half screen is displayed during shooting. The cause may be the image encoding error on the gimbal main board.
    5) There are white spots or black spots on the screen. This issue occurs because of the black FPC flat cable error.
    6) The video jitters. In this case, there may be an error with the Pitch axis motor.
    7) When the Pitch axis points downward, the camera is obstructed, which results in pitch movement delay or video shakiness. The gyroscope needs to be calibrated or a jig is required.
    If such issue still occurs, send the product to DJI for repair.
    If you have any questions, please feel free to contact DJI Europe Support, Mon-Fri 8:30AM - 5:00PM (UTC+1) via the following three channels:

    This is calibration of the front Obstacle Avoidance System and not gimbal. Gimbal calibration can be done via DJI GO App under the gimbal menu.

    • @aapower4530
      @aapower4530 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly right. This procedure is for the forward facing and downward facing vision positioning system, NOT the gimbal. In fact, you can complete this procedure successfully with the gimbal detached from the Mavic. To calibrate the gimbal, it's via the DJI Go 4 app (Gimbal tab --> Auto calibrate)

    • @justuslm
      @justuslm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      He never said it was a gimbal calibration, but that this fixed his gimbal problems. You have to understand that in DJI drones, since everything is one unit, many things work together.
      The gimbal, for example, uses attitude information from the Mavic's IMU as well as compass information (don't ask me how it uses the compass, but interference will make the gimbal go drunk).
      Even though it seems weird, it is possible that the optical flow sensors are somehow connected to the gimbal.

      Sean Mclean yes we know BUT after doing this my gimbal stop going berserk

    • @c.andrewits2774
      @c.andrewits2774 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      it was probably an issue more with the vision sensors. Its not a gimbal calibration but since all the sensors work together, re calibrating the IMU is also a good idea. I had a drone that would point the gimbal all the way to the right (relative to drone).
      Re calibrated IMU on the app and the gimbal became centered.
      The firmware can also have some devastating impacts on the overall functionality of the drone. But in my experience most gimbal issues people are having come from a light or medium crash with no visible signs. Firmware alone has never shown to have any gimbals go dead. Probably a combination of flying in sand/dirty conditions and then doing updates, the two get tied together.

    I crashed my mavic pro. The camera still works but it don’t move at all. When I took it for a spin the footage of the gimbal is horrible it’s all shaky and when I fly it fast you can see the camera moving as the drone moves. Can that be a ribbon cable problem??? I do get a message on my screen saying gimbal motor load too large. Please check if the gimbal clamp has been removed? Or the gimbal arm is broken ?

    I think your calibration seems to be a little wrong. When you look at the pictures in the assistant app, no. 3 shows how to do it NOT. You have to point with the aircraft at the center of your screen and pitch the aircraft to the blue squares. Maybe the results of the calibration are much better when doing it like its shows at picture 1 and 2 in the assistant app...
    You also see the instruction at the upper left corner how to do it right... nice animation.

    Forward Vision sensors connect to the gimbal control board. Thus the forward vision sensors communicate with the main board via gimbal control board. Thats why this type of calibration is able to correct certain gimbal malfunctions... as for gimbal problems occurring directly after FW update... Thats dji's screw up. Look at how many ppl get it shipped and repaired by dji for free..?

    Hi again everyone,
    So I also had this gimbal motor overload issue. It happened suddenly after a firmware update. No particular reason, I had a small crash 4 weeks before, but then had 60 flights with no issue.
    I contacted the customer service, which asked me to send the Mavic back to the Netherlands (after having asked me to do several things which didn't work).
    This is the chronology :
    - Day 1 I contacted the customer service
    - Day 2 they replied, asking me to send the Mavic, they issued a UPS label so that I just had to drop the Mavic at the nearby UPS collect point.
    - Day 3 the Mavic was sent
    - Day 5 the Mavic was received by DJI
    - Day 12 they confirmed the Mavic was received (!!) and would be soon investigated
    - Day 15 they said it should take 2 working days to have it repaired, free of charge
    I can then now expect a 4 week time lag between the first contact with DJI customer service and the Magic repaired back to my place, free of charge.

    I noticed you were moving it incorrectly. The correct way is to hold the Mavic perfectly still, in the center of the screen area, at the correct distance away. You then tilt it at the angle you need (while holding it in center), to follow the square. You don't move the craft around the whole screen, following the square. If you watch the little video on the left, as you are doing the calibration, it shows the correct way to hold and orient the Mavic.

    • @ausviking
      @ausviking  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacob Flint thanks Jacob, in the video I wasn’t trying to calibrate the Mavic, I had a problem where my gimbal was freaking out mid flight, and if I was looking at my screen it looked like it was falling out of the sky, what I believe this process is doing is somehow resetting the gimbal....just my thoughts as my gimbal never did it again after this, also the video is not where I did it the first time it is just to show that if you were having the same problem as I did then this may help

    • @jake24680
      @jake24680 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds good. It's kind of out of the screen. I just noticed this was a long time ago. Sorry. Thought maybe i was giving advice, but you already have the problem cleared up. Mavic is such an amazing machine.

    My gimbal after it flew does this flaw ( th-cam.com/video/WzR8TA9fcDI/w-d-xo.html ), when I turn it on before flying it initializes correctly and not from problems, after it has flown and I turn it off turning back on and taking the shots you see at the end of the video and reporting the error "gimbal overload, check that you have removed the block". Can this defect be solved with this calibration? Thank you so much and excuse the trouble :-)
