I've watched dozens and dozens of Mavic videos. Each one, including this one, I'm able to pull at least something from. Your simple explanation on shutter speed and ISO was helpful.
ND filter is nice BUT not necessary even in your example. Why did you not just turn down the "EV" setting? Hmmmmm you aren't perhaps marketing those filters are you?
@@jamienorton9172 No, he is not marketing the ND Filters. As he mentioned, the shutter speed NEEDS to be double that of the Frame Rate. So selecting a shutter speed double the frame rate will automatically overexpose the footage in bright conditions unless a ND filter is used.
I am from Germany and normally my English isn't that good but u did a great job my friend... I could understand 80%. Thanks for fast and good information. U got a new fan now .
Hello. I Liked and subscribed. So far, you are the only TH-cam channel making a video that explains with good articulation, how to set the camera. DJI drones, I have experience with. The camera and photography, I'm a newbie but, I do have some good instincts.
Hey, I Recently learned that the mavic will add its own denoising if you set the sharpness to 0 or below. this causes a loss of detail, and blurry images. Its better to set the sharpness to +1 and remove some of the sharpness later with proper noise reduction in post.
Great vid. Awaiting FedEx delivery for my Mavic slated tomorrow - wooohooo. Will be using your vids as guides for initial set up and precautions. Keep 'em coming.
Billy Kyle Maiden flight was a success despite 5-10 mph winds with gusts up to 15 - she performed like a champ. Wife made a few snarky comments as I took her out to about 3/4 of a mile but were well founded. Will tinker with your recommendations in this video tonight/tomorrow.
Great description of all the camera functions, this simplified them all. New drone owner here and quite overwhelmed of all the settings. This helped out a boatload thanks!!!!
I was looking for an end with a perfect image. Instead you left me with an unuseable washed out image telling us to fix it with a filter. So finish this showing how to use the filters on a Mavic to get that perfect video.
You could also multiply the frame rate value by 2x or 3x or 4x and so forth and still eliminate shutter speed issues while darkening the shot. Then adjusting your EV value to 0 or -1 or -2 etc to darken without an ND filter. Good video, fast and informative, well done. Peace out.
What a relevant and well performed introduktion. Im very pleased with the information level in this video. I cant wait to get my Mavic in the air, and try out your tips.
For sure with a camera that has a fixed aperture, a ND filter is a must! Heck even on the P4P its a must on sunny days and that has an adjustable aperture.
Hi Billy I really appreciated the tutorial on camera settings. I just got my Mavic and didn't know where anything was or how to get to it. this step by step walk thru all the setting and what they do was just what I needed. thanks and really enjoyed it. Would love to see a walk through on all the flight modes and how to access them also.
just started using manual setting on my Phantom 3 and done my first test with it. Came out really well and looking forward to filming all my vids with the drone in M :)
Great Video. I can't find any suggestions on the best color profile and style settings for RAW still shots? Everything out there is relating to video. Any suggestions would be great.
For my opinion, +1/0/0 - is the best settings, because of -1/x/x result as soft leaves for example and it could not be restored in post. Also, D-Log - is the best settings for post, such as grading etc.
It may be easier if I just respond in this comment. Basically ND filters have different values (4, 8, 16, 32) and the higher the number, the darker the shade. The ND8 lens is my lens of choice as this will work in all sunny conditions. If it gets cloudy (overcast conditions) use the ND4 lens as that will provide good exposure values. When flying directly into the sun I would suggest an ND16 or ND32 lens, this can be good for sunsets. I hope that helps!
Thanks... I'm a new user and may not experiment with the camera until I familiarize myself a little more with the piloting and navigation aspects... Do you cover those topics as well?
this is for a different category of the mavic but how did you get the distance and height to say feet instead of meters i can't figure out where to change that
+Alex Bulthuis You are basically changing the sensitivity of the sticks. You can change the sensitivity of left stick going up and down as well as rotational.
Just subd. I fly the phantom 3 advanced my second one lol. I checked out your video for a few friends who have the mavic pro. Nice tutorial i will pass it on to my friends. thanks for sharing.
You might want to explain that not all filters are created equal, polar pro you have to remove the filter every time you change a battery, with Taco and freewell you leave them on. Makes a huge difference I have found in flying.
I meant just on this, since ya sayin the filters are great, or mention in the description the other vid that explains, as you know many people arrive at this vid, not seen the others. The freewells have been great a bud is using the taco's and great, so will see what dji comes up with, but they aren't making them, it's oem. Keep up the nice work!
when i press icon above record button (with the 2 arrows) nothing happens - does controller and drone have to be on for this to work? I though I could go ahead and do all settings on the app directly...
Hi, very good video!! I have Mavic for two weeks and my videos are very bad....no focus!! One question, are there settings for camera and others settings for video? or are the same? Thanks in advance Daniel
Hi thank you four your video is normal when you fly a Mavic Pro Platinum the camera move when you turn the drone please can you let me know if I can stop that thks
Hey, Nice vid, thanks. I have a question, though. Why can't you just increase shutter speed and get away without ND filter? What are the cons of that? Thanks.
+Психолог Никита Григорьев The reason to set the shutter speed double the frame rate is because it helps us record video that contains natural movement. If the shutter speed is too slow, you’ll get blurred movement, if you shoot at a shutter speed that’s too high, everyone in your scene will look as if they were recorded in stop motion. Does that help?
Thanks for reply. Hmm.. I get motion blur, but I never had problem with fast shutter speed. Never saw footage, where everything looks like stop motion.. Is there any vid on youtube about it? Or at least an example? Would really appreciate the link
If you are shooting still objects you won't see many problems. I shoot Real Estate with a Ronin M and a gh4 and most of the time I set it to aperture control to get even exposure when going from room to room letting the camera adjust the shutter speed as needed. Good video Billy posted on shutter effects!
Thanks Billy...got confirmation that my Mavic is on the way. Don't you have one of these exact vids on the camera settings for the P4P or do you use the same settings for the P4P....I know the sensors are quite different, so I was curious. Thanks again man
Im new to this drone thing but have some experience with dslr photography... This may be a dumb question but what does fps have to do with the shutter speed in manuel photography? I thought fps was for video?
+Salvatore Angarone Shutter speed is still used during video. It should be set to twice the FPS (i.e. 30fps yields a shutter speed of 60) to achieve the best results.
How do you reset the camera to default settings? I am trying to get the numbers you provided and not working for me. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
I had the same problem. I was able to get it to 60hz this way. Reset camera settings> change it to 60hz first> proceed with other settings> mine stayed on 60 doing it that way. Hope this helped!
I have a Phantom 3 Pro and have attempted to shoot video of different things that flow smoothly on first viewing them on my computer, but when I copy the video to a disc, the video gets choppy in playback. I believe the computers can't read all the data fast enough, but how do I make any movies without this choppiness? Thanks ahead of time.
Hey man, could you tell me the best video setting for mavic using Litchi app? I use the DJI GO Pro mostly on my flights, but I started to like the Litchi app more and more, but there's not many video setting guide for Litchi as there are for the DJI Go Pro app. Or can I just apply the DJI Go Pro video value settings on Litchi and it'll produce the same video quality result? Appreciate your guide on this. Thanks.
My opinion but, I would NOT use the Litchi since it interferes with the DJI Go 4 APP. The Litchi is a Way Point application which the GO 4 APP does very well. You don't need it so, save your money for the Mavic.
Great video... couple of observations: It would be great to see the sliders move or mouse pointer indicate what features you are talking about. Fortunately I know them but not everyone does. Another one is I find it l=misleading to end such a good video with the overexposed image and the necessity to purchase ND filters. Not necessary, the shutter speed value should be "at least twice" of the frame rate but it could be much more... that's why you can go much higher ;-) Thank you, keep'em coming!
I've watched dozens and dozens of Mavic videos. Each one, including this one, I'm able to pull at least something from. Your simple explanation on shutter speed and ISO was helpful.
Thanks Chad!
Would have been helpful to see you pop a filter on at the end to correct the overexposure.
agreed
Yeah this way you still have no idea what it is like, the sample clip does not specify a filter.
ND filter is nice BUT not necessary even in your example. Why did you not just turn down the "EV" setting? Hmmmmm you aren't perhaps marketing those filters are you?
it does sounded like he is marketing them @@jamienorton9172
@@jamienorton9172 No, he is not marketing the ND Filters. As he mentioned, the shutter speed NEEDS to be double that of the Frame Rate. So selecting a shutter speed double the frame rate will automatically overexpose the footage in bright conditions unless a ND filter is used.

Well explained. It will be a huge benefit to me as I have recently purchased a Mavic Pro 2. Thanks

tons of info and straight to the point. Thank you
Appreciate the tips! Merry Christmas Billy!
+Todd Covington Merry Christmas to you too Todd!
Best guidance on the internet. Pacy, accurate ... thanks Billy.
+Max Flight Thank you sir!
Nice and straightforward, no pandering to click affiliate links. Thanks much.
I watched many videos, you and the guy of drone Vally, you are both extraordinary, thanks
+Ashraf Kabesh No problem, thanks for the kind words!
I like these short and concise videos, thank you
What a relevant and well performed introduktion. Im very pleased with the information level in this video. I cant wait to get my Mavic in the air, and try out your tips.
Great video! Jut bought the Mavic Pro yesterday and this helped out a lot!
Thank you Chris!
Mede Blac I ordered it January 8th and got it on the 24th with overnight shipping.

You're a God sent. Great info Billy
Good material. Thanks, and subscribed!
Awesome video Billy, Man you just made things so much easier for me. Kudos. Thumbs up and a subscriber now.
Oh yea I do have a nice set of filters too, :}
Thanks Billy for the concise tutorial - subbed!
Dude, great video thank you
Damn thanx Billy!! Used these similar settings on Mavic Pro for my Transient Video!! buajajaja keep em coming man, love it.
Thanks man!!
Great video. It taught me everything I needed to know about the video capture with no rubbish chatter. Thanks.
The way you say post is lovely
That's 9 minutes I'll never get back. It was going great until the part where you need filters to make these settings work.
Just to bring the shutter speed down, otherwise everything else works fine
Clear and concise info! thanks! :)
+PierreTL You're welcome!
Great teaching 🤩👌

Great video. Very informative
Great job, thanks. I wish you woulda thrown an ND filter in on the end there to show us what it woulda looked like.

+alrestauro You're welcome!
Just saw this video... Thanks for the tips. I'll have to try them out.
Great video. Immediately subscribed!
Thanks dude!
haven't bought the ND filters yet. Can you post a walk through on how and when to use them? When do you use one over the other?
It may be easier if I just respond in this comment. Basically ND filters have different values (4, 8, 16, 32) and the higher the number, the darker the shade. Billy Kyle perfect
+Chad LeClaire Awesome glad I could help
Thanks for posting this!
No problem Shawn!
Very informative, thank you.
+Miles Hunter You're welcome Mike!
thanks for this 😊 what is video caption? why should we turn it off or on?
+Mattia Antonelli It's just a description for the video. I find no use for it
Billy Kyle thanks! I don't know after today's update if is better to film in D-Log as i do until today or switch to normal.
Which update are you referring to?
Billy Kyle today i've received a new update for d log feature and something more. Don't you have received it?
Great video!
Very helpful! Do you have a video showing some of your post process too?
Awesome! Thanks.
After setting your ISO and Shutter Speed manually, how do you determine which ND filter to use?
There is a nice polar pro app in the Google app store that will help you decide (10 months later, I'm sure you've found something by now).
Thanks... I'm a new user and may not experiment with the camera until I familiarize myself a little more with the piloting and navigation aspects... Do you cover those topics as well?
very useful, thank you for your time.
Sure thing!
Love your video thanks
Thanks Angel! Really appreciate it
can you do a review on the mavic pro remote controller monitor hood
I haven't seen this product. I'll have to look around for it.
it is in the dji online store
New to the whole photography game. This helps a lot thank you! The mavic pro is way too advanced lol
First class video many thanks Have you any thoughts / tests on different filters please? TY
+Tom Milne The best set of filters is the polar pro cinema series lends
this is for a different category of the mavic but how did you get the distance and height to say feet instead of meters i can't figure out where to change that
Click the three dots in the top right corner to access the general settings. Look for "measurement unit" and change it to imperial.
thanks ! also where can i change the yaw like how fast the drone turns left and right can't find that either
+Alex Bulthuis That can be changed in the EXP settings as well
Wheres that? i dont see anything that says exp? i clicked the three dots and then can't find anything that says where to change the rotation speed...
+Alex Bulthuis You are basically changing the sensitivity of the sticks. You can change the sensitivity of left stick going up and down as well as rotational.
Very cool video 😊 can you tell me it is normal for mavic pro that when moving drone the picture gets really distorted?
Does video caption mean it puts the telemetry in the video or photo?
Just subd. I fly the phantom 3 advanced my second one lol. I checked out your video for a few friends who have the mavic pro. Nice tutorial i will pass it on to my friends. thanks for sharing.

if you are in a darker environment should you use a lower resolution?
You might want to explain that not all filters are created equal, polar pro you have to remove the filter every time you change a battery, with Taco and freewell you leave them on. Makes a huge difference I have found in flying.
+print4apet I've made various videos on them, explaining how they work. DJI's ND filters for the Mavic are on there way now, can't wait to try them.

When you turn the drone on, hit auto take off, then on the screen touch the screen at a far off point, it will focus on it...
Hi thank you four your video is normal when you fly a Mavic Pro Platinum the camera move when you turn the drone please can you let me know if I can stop that thks
which filter should I use with these settings
+Poppi3579 ND8
which brand is best?
+Poppi3579 I like my DJI ones
thx
What causes flickering outside when flying lower to grass and smother surfaces in sunlight?
Billy what is the AFC button on the Mavic Pro Zoom's function?
are you able to adjust the E.V. in manual? it looks like that control went away from the video.
+Chris Courtemanche No. you set the other values in order to change the EV
How do you straight the view angle ?
Nice video Billy. I've been trialing the PolarPro ND filters for the mavic. They seem to work well. Cheers.

How can I turn on the shutter sound when taking a picture.
can you please link to the filter
Where do you find a ND 2 filter?
How do you reset the camera to default settings? I am trying to get the numbers you provided and not working for me. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

Has anyone ever told you that your voice is similar to the "Casually Explained" guy?
+morgish Never hahaha is that a good thing?
Billy Kyle yep. Check out his channel. Guy is hilarious.
Cheers again for this video. Have subscribed!
+morgish Awesome. Thank you!
Hi Billy. My anti flicker setting is stuck on 50Hz CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GET IT ON 60HZ AS YOU HAVE YOURS?? Thanks
I had the same problem. I was able to get it to 60hz this way. Reset camera settings> change it to 60hz first> proceed with other settings> mine stayed on 60 doing it that way. Hope this helped!
My shutter speed is all really small fractions like 1/50 rather than 50, how do I select 50
Great info, thanks for sharing! Can you tell me where my settings should be if I don't do any post? Can I do post through Imovie?
Yes. You'll be able to change the values of saturation, contest etc with that software.
how come my shutter speed is in fractions? like 1/100 or 1/80 which should I pick
I have a Phantom 3 Pro and have attempted to shoot video of different things that flow smoothly on first viewing them on my computer, but when I copy the video to a disc, the video gets choppy in playback. Ok, thank you. I'll look into it. BTW, good job on your video. :-)
+SgtKing King Thank you!
Rick can you tell me why am not seeing the anti flicker icon nomore
Great thanks!
Thanks, how far do you push +/- EV before you need to switch out your ND filter?
+Russell Wiltshire Photography Anything under -1 or over 1
Hey man, could you tell me the best video setting for mavic using Litchi
app? I use the DJI GO Pro mostly on my flights, but I started to like
the Litchi app more and more, but there's not many video setting guide
for Litchi as there are for the DJI Go Pro app. Or can I just apply the

video quality result? Appreciate your guide on this. Thanks.
My opinion but, I would NOT use the Litchi since it interferes with the DJI Go 4 APP. The Litchi is a Way Point application which the GO 4 APP does very well. You don't need it so, save your money for the Mavic.

Daytona 6263 i think i see it now. Thanks for the info. I'll give a shot to NDF
Billy, I go into the Anti-Flicker setting and it will NOT let me change it from 50hz. I can change all other settings. Any ideas?
Dug around on forums and found the answer. You must have camera settings on AUTO to change the Anti-flicker settings. Weird!
That is really weird....
