      if the other lights in your scene are of a higher luminance, you can use small dedicated eyesights without polluting her face and the eyes will just pick up the reflection.

    To take your final point further, I don't think anyone, anywhere, should be talking about "shooting a classroom", regardless!

  • @DL_YouTube
    @DL_YouTube 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I am a little slow... are you saying it's bad that this style of lighting and use of haze is overused and tiring? Or that it's just tiring to analyze all the time because you've done it so much that you want to pass out? Love your lessons, I watch one of your episodes once a day before starting my day

    • @daniel.lopresti
      @daniel.lopresti 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as lighting goes, I'd say this is the only "practical" (no pun intended) way you can light a classroom with side windows, for a normal interior day look. As for haze, it seems to be tooootally overdone in the narrative world these days, even where it's not really justified at all, or doesn't make sense in the context (IMO). I guess that's what he was getting at.

    • @DL_YouTube
      @DL_YouTube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The light meter is one of the DP's most important tools. It has served the craft for generations. False color is an interesting new tool, but I often question the efficacy of its information. I can remember using wave form monitors, years ago, once the video taps improved on film cameras. However, it is after all a rec709 standard. Any in-camera measuring device is hindered by a single reflected point of view. There is nothing like getting out from behind the camera, to walk the set and get a feel for where the light is coming from, where it changes, and what the foot-candles are in a given space. To truly get a sense of what the light is doing, from an incident POV, it behooves the working cinematographer to get up and move in the same space as the actors. To suggest that using a light meter is a pretentious waste of time is a silly point of view to take. I sincerely hope you were joking...
