If all commercials could just have you do the VO dub that you did for the first minute of this video, they'd exponentially be able to raise sales for any product. That was awesome.
"Throw in anamorphic flare?"
"You check the tires. I'll check the gas"
"Oh, brother"
"And gooooo teaaaamm"
Man, thank you so much for these detailed breakdowns and the “why” behind each choice. It’s so frustrating trying to find solid information on lighting setups and angles when most TH-cam channels only focus on gear. Thank you.
My pleasure.
What camera do you shoot with?
Wow...surprised but happy to see you here, Carl!
@@wanderingdp classic; love seeing that EVERY time
You probably dont care but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account..?
I somehow forgot the login password. I would love any assistance you can give me
@Diego Calvin instablaster =)
Honestly your videos are the main reason on why I go on TH-cam😁
Dude I just have to tell you: I freakiiin love your sarcasm!! What the hell, it's so fun and you manage to still respect the art
Yutime “Brothers” [Director’s Cut]
Thanks, man!
Awesome ! Thanks for this
That room scene with the light rays was a dope way to create interest in a boring scene 😍
Actually I just realized that moving lights actually serve the story. I imagine they tried to simulate the moving car lights. That's actually very clever. Thank you for the great content, as always.
Absolutely loving these breakdowns!
this one channel is all you need.. thanks man for all these breakdowns :)
your breakdown of the room lightning for the first frames of the ad: gregory crewdson de-mystified. brilliant. now usher in the sad character and finish the setup.
Found this channel at 5 in the Morning. Good start, good day
What are you doing on TH-cam at 5 in the morning?
What's the name of the commercial?
Come here late but really liked this one. Using anamorphics and a “messy” style really seems workable, even in an ad. So many times the exposure and focus was a bit off but they went with it. Learning a huge amount from your videos - my latest focus is “balance” - nobody else really teaches this stuff.
top stuff as usual. informative!
Your humor cracks me up
So much great info. Love it.
I haven't even watched and I know it's gonna be good
Your humor today is on fire :D. And you can get slight hints how rough it is on a real set..."you are the one who is getting fired"...it shouldn't be like that...but I can just imagine - I have worked at audio Postproduction...and you can feel it. NOW I am in a voice Over studio and it is the nicest atmosphere you can think of. That is why I don't want to work for feature film anymore (in sound Postproduction) My focus - besides the voice Over Studio is making youtube videos again soon. Which can rough by itself. But thank you that I can learn again and agin how to shoot and grade professionally. Just seeing the Histogram in Resolve helps so much to know - what is the right ballpark. Also your comments validate this then. (Sorry for my rough english - I am not a native)
I swear half of me clicks every day for the commentary. You check the tires, I'll check the gas! LOL, I'm done
SAME HERE lol
Great content as usual 👏👏👏👏
Oh shit, my new favorite teacher!
Could you possibly talk about colour grades or colour palette and why they choose certain looks for projects ?
Yess would love car snip its breakdown :D !
Love your channel and always have! Keep it coming. I learn so much from you. But just gotta say, that lens might need a tune up in the technical aspect but I think there's something to be said about the characteristics around the image. At the end of the day for the sake of the story we are solely looking at the car on the table, and I think the effect sells the story. Just a comment, open for discussion. Thank you for helping all of us who care get better!!
This was one of the best episodes EVER. So many knowledge. Soon I will be a patrion member...I would prefer it here on youtube is that possible? And another question ..the "Thight and tubes"...I never knew what tubes you meant...am I right that you mean the "TITAN Tubes?" Thank you for clearing this up - and sorry for beeing such a newb...but I am coming from the sound department...as I have stated before ;).
And you also need a voice over by Alan Watts! Couldn’t agree more! Haha love your videos!
Awesome video!! Hey what camera
Do you use to film your TH-cam videos?
Would the practical on the desk be there to justify the close-up of the little car on the desk? When planned the shot of the car on the desk would be pretty important to the story of a kid growing up to be a car driver, I would think. That lamp on the desk is like the mini key light for the car. Just a guess as to why it would be there in the first place. I might be wrong.
why don't u ever give links to the actual commercials?
great breakdown! may you explain how in the initial shot the right window/curtain was toned to be teal? gelled light or only colorgrading? THANKS
Can you start linking the ads?
Took a bit of digging but found it. Yutime: "Brothers."

Man you should really teach in cinema schools if you're not already. You make DoPing looks so easy and fun :-) (and also bring a full truck load of precious information and details to pay attention to).
Sit in room with 30 kids or bring upstage lighting to the great unwashed masses via the tube.
I vote tube
Would the desk lamp reflect the light back behind it on the wall as the sunlight changed over time?
This is the way.
Merch slogan:
"When in doubt:
Haze and Rays"
I'd buy the t-shirt...and maybe a mug too
I support this 😂
I like it
does anybody know where i can find the link to this commercial?
Yesss 👌
Do you always use diopters when shooting anamorphic? Also, which would you recommend on a budget?
Shooting anamorphic limits you with a huge minimum focus distance.
For anyone interested this ad is directed by Nik Hollywood and here‘s an official breakdown on his IG: instagram.com/tv/CE9re59KDN5/?igshid=jasohdyxg02m
Its not available anymore. I couldnt find this ad and his instagram. Can you share it?
There's a slight glitchy chanel seperation thing going and I have no idea what it is but it looks so good.
Are you talking about the image in the commercial? For example in the first frame with the bedroom? Like the slight chromatic aberration? I've seen this effect on ANDBERRY's channel in the clip with the black girl where I believe he used an anamorphic adapter or lens. Might be that.
Oh and it should be an older lens, they give the aberrations more. I don't know if the anamorphic part helps with that...
There can be 3 factors causing chromatic aberrations: anamorphic lens, especially wide open, diopter (close-up filter), and digital post-enhancement. Sometimes all three together :)
anyone know the name of the actual advert or where I could find it
Yes, please!
Yutime “Brothers” [Director’s Cut]
Would you mind putting the name of the commercial in the description? Otherwise it's super hard to find. Thanks!
Yutime - Brothers (Director's Cut)
Ooollll right everybody hehlo
give link for that add plz !
❤️❤️❤️
¨Skipping leg days¨hahahahahhaha
What do you mean when you say "its all frame work"
Keep watching (or listen to the podcast) and you'll get it. It's basically a term he uses to refer to the spine and techniques/choices about cinematography regarding, lighting, how its shaped, when and where is used in which way, etc. Like the "right way" it is used in the commercial world. Upstage lightning is like the starting point but it builds up from there.
