I’ve been pulling the handle for years because it feels powerful. I get away with it with short irons, but I hit a lot of blocks and pull hooks with my driver. It’s a difficult habit to shake. I’m going to give this method a shot.
Hi Dan! I’m a new subscriber and I love your stuff and teaching style. I have definitely been a victim of modern golf instruction and fell for all of the concepts that you tell people to stop doing, especially the “hands stay back and the body turns them into impact” junk. I have two quick questions that I was hoping you can address- 1- Do you think that “the club head gets to the ball first” is a good swing thought for the release (to avoid getting the handle/hands out front)? If not, what’s a good thought as I’m trying to rewire that part of my swing? 2- Following your methods, I’m having great success with my irons, but I’m still struggling with my driver and FWs. I’ve noticed that if I make a deliberate effort to keep my chest pointing behind the ball through impact (almost like a laser from the buttons on my polo would point a few inches behind the ball), that I crush it long and straight. Is that just coincidental or does this align with release that you teach? Thanks, man. I’ll do what I can to help your channel continue to grow.
I’m happy it’s helping you! Thank you for your comment. Yes, feeling clubhead first is a great thought, it will start getting you into the correct sequence. Also, keeping the shirt buttons back is good too - bigger clubs off the ground may require a more out to in feeling as well. Great job! Stay tuned and keep me informed!
Dan do you believe we should just swing our arms as fast possible on a slightly inside path in the downswing? With just enough grip pressure to hang on to the club?
No because the arms can drag the club. It’s our hands that we can move fast! The elbows just have to come down to do that…which most people will do because most are former handle pullers. I do like the grip pressure part. I’ll have a training aid video on coming in the next week touching on this..thanks for the comment!
How do you learn this without being together- love the concept, it “looks” easy on the videos, but don’t know how to start practicing it and ingraining it. Hints??
the losing of the angle almost feels like a casting from the top. When I do that feel, I hit the ball better, and much farther. Casting feel isn't bad.... just do it at the right time in the downswing. For me, its at the start of the downswing. Everyones feel is different.
IN all sports, tennis, baseball, hockey, golf we are trying to get the end of the stick to the ball and it should be done right away as it is the farthest from the ball! If you were to square an exe on a tree the head of the axe would get there before the handle, you would never put the handle and chop down the tree!
Short and sweet was told I was doing it wrong by not holding on to angle messed up my swing for years became very inconsistent and a dramatic loss of power

Dan, your message needs more frequent videos to get out there.

@@danaltongolfinstruction Wish we still lived in North Raleigh - Leesville Road area. I would come in for a lesson.
I'm on other side of USA now.
@@tomsettles6873 that’s right where I am too! Stay tuned and hopefully we can keep helping!

Yes - there’s no sports where we hit the ball from behind us! Spot on. Axe is a great analogy as well!

Try it like this, you’ll hit it high and far! Thanks for letting me know🙌🏼
@@danaltongolfinstruction can you please tell me if you are releasing all the angle of the right hand into impact or past impact?
I’m releasing all angle, yes.
Into impact
People think this is casting. It’s not. You have to let the club angles out. No pro holds the angles.
