My Man I do believe you just showed me my problem ( 2001 Dodge 5.9 cummins ) same sound, At first I thought rubber was peeling off my front drivers side & I was fixing to have a blow out, but I had no flat & the noise stopped. Later after about the 3rd time I started hearing the grinding. Then I thought all the things that you did. Although I was lucky enough to find your video.
I think you saved me a lot of time & work. I cannot think you enough. But I was lucky to get about 700,000 miles before this happened. Again, Thanks GD

Had this sounds earlier today while cruising at 60mph. Got home, put it in 4wdH, rolled it in reverse and drive about 10ft. Truck is jerking as if the tcase is binding also making an awful clanking noise. It’s a manual shift tcase but only shifts to 2wd and 4wdHigh. Will not disengage 4wd and will not shift to neutral nor 4wdLow. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for this very informative video. I’m getting ready to pull my transfer case out for this exact same noise.

Thanks for posting this video. The noise I'm having, is the noise you were getting when you had the t-case out and moving the shaft back and forth, but mine is doing it when you let off and coast. My noise goes away when I shift into 4 high.

Thank you for this video. I have a 2014 Ram 2500 with the Cummins. I have had a clunk since brand new that got slightly more noticeable in the driveline. It's at lower speed getting on and off the accelerator. So, after seing your video I decided to use 4 wheel drive and the driveline does not clunk. I'm thinking there is slack in the transfer case chain or something out of spec. Have you heard of this before? Thanks
Is there a specific transfer case that you would recommend replacing it with?

I’m pretty sure I’m having this issue. For a quick fix to keep me on the road and getting to work for a couple weeks, can I just put a new clip in and run it?

What would cause the drive shaft to be so stuck in the back of the transfer case that it took a come along and a hammer to beat it out and have to tap the new drive line back in?
By the way nice video. Thank you.

    • @AutomedicGarage

I would say corrosion on the splines possibly messed up splines on the slip joint.

@@AutomedicGarage I guess I needed to explain further. Sorry.
My aluminum drive shaft was bent creating a bad vibration. That’s the one I had to pull. New drive shaft had to be tapped in, there is still a slight vibration with exceleration. From what I understand there is a bushing in the tale shaft. Can’t find any overhaul videos of my Ram 2500 BW44-47 transfer case to help me out. Coincidentally that bushing is no longer available. Could the vibration have distorted the bushing?
