My go-to after-shave balm. Inexpensive and widely available. As an added bonus, it soothes razor burns and irritations.

This is probably one of the best aftershave bombs I’ve ever used. I have extremely sensitive skin and I have to do a pretty lengthy routine just to get my skin ready to be shaved. And even then my face breaks out or has horrible razor burn. This cream definitely helps alleviate it along with skin bracer. It’s almost the only thing that works.
Edit: I have now finished my original bottle. Now I have removed the logos, and cleaned it, and I am now using it to store my aqua Velva aftershave.

I swear by Nivea products, i have very sensitive skin and every other make i've tried brings me out in spots not just balm but face wash and exfoliating scrub and moisturiser too. So Nivea will always be my first choice.

I love this stuff, and as you pointed out it's one hell of a bargain.
I generally splash a mixture of cold water, witch hazel, and Masters Bay Rum on my face (I mix them in my palm), and then follow it up with the Nivea Sensitive Balm just before the last bit of the splash evaporates. I also use it as a face lotion on non-shaving days.

Hi Nick! I've been using this for years and it did a fantastic job of calming down my irritated skin and razor burn from shaving with a cartridge razor. I also really like the delicate scent which is not too overpowering. The ingredients are also very nice including hamamelis or whitch hazel as it is called which helps to desinfect and support the healing of the skin. When I started DE shaving and discovered Proraso I also bought a sample of their ASB from their "sensitive" white line and I think it works even better. In addition I really love the scent of the Proraso white line. You should give it a try.
    Greetings from Germany

Been using it for twenty years, it's hard to tell if it has changed but the bottle definitely hasn't much. It works well, you need the tiniest amount too... a bottle lasts me most of the year.
I want to say that I think it used to have more alcohol in it and was a bit stingier but I'm not sure if I'm misremembering it.

Great stuff. Perfect for when you're shaving at night and you don't feel the need for a scent big scent. Just rub on some alum and protect with Nivea. As much as you love Nivea, you may find it nice to have a lil' bottle of Stirling with hazel balm as well, because you can use it to reinforce or even replace the Sharp Dressed Man scent. I actually got a complement today and I didn't even shave... All I did was put some SDM balm on my face because it felt dry. The Nivea soaks into the skin a bit quicker and easier than the Stirling, but the Stirling stuff is still great for your skin and may even be more hydrating/lotion-y.

its really good, I swear, it even helps for beard growth that too soft hairs in starting and then harden's it slowly slowly, I really recommend it to be used by starters specially because it helps hair growth and I think he said he used it as a moisture, it would be that the hair growth in his hands will be probably more than the normal

Picked up some more Nivea after shave balm today. Some retailers are discounting it here in Scotland and I managed to pick it up for £2.63 , a total bargain. Surely the packaging and glass bottle would cost that alone ? Anyway it's an amazing product and why would you use anything else at this price. Keep up the good work Nick , I love your channel and your reviews of products.

I've heard you rave about this stuff before, and your raving about HGTAM soaps was spot on so I will be trying this soon. I have some proraso sensitive balm left, but it's dwindling quickly. I really like it, but would prefer to be able to use cash in a B&M rather than CC online so I hope this lives up to your praise! I hate to admit, but I've switched to VanDerHagen soap (after watching your mild/warn review) for the same reason of avoiding using a CC online. I LOVE HGTAM, but am paranoid/conspiracist about buying online anymore...

As a guy with very oily skin after shave balms tend to give me loads of pimples. What's more is that I just couldn't shave everyday while using this very product as it didn't help with reducing post shave irritation at all. Once I switched to splashes (specifically Pitralon) with enough alcohol in them to get you drunk as a skunk by simply smelling them, my issues were immediately reduced significantly. Nowadays I truly swear by my beloved "stingers"! I'm not an isolated case though as my best friend made the same experience.

Nick, did you ever try Neutrogena after shave balm ? It is good, protective, heavier than the Nivea. It takes a while to soak in but your face feels so good for many hours. I just love the stuff. They also make the same thing with sunscreen in it !!

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been using Shea Moisture's tea tree aftershave with good results, but as I have picky skin that tends to be oily but somehow also really dry during winter, I thought I'd supplement it with a balm to ward off the dreaded post-shower/shave skin flakes. I had pretty much written off all of the name brand shaving and skin care products that are readily available in stores, but Nivea seems to be the exception. "Sensitive" is usually a distant afterthought in products marketed for sensitive skin, but this really left me moisturized and smelling great and with no residual redness or dryness, even 12 hours later and when paired with the alcohol-free astringent. I'll also try it with Thayer's. I guess my only disappointment is that it doesn't have any SPF so I need an extra layer of lotion on outdoorsy days. But I'm just shooting for the moon I suppose. You can't expect everything from an aftershave lotion...but this one comes close!

I picked this up on your recommendation and I like it a lot. Because it's a weak scent (nice and clean, just not strong), I pair it with my soaps that have scents that I can't match aftershaves to. Sometimes it seems to strengthen the scent of the soap and make it linger. I have to ask, have you tried any of Stirling's aftershave balms (specifically the balms, not the splash)? I have the barbershop, and I love the scent, and it gives an amazing cooling effect. Also, I've been picking up more Nivea products in general since your review. I admittedly always overlooked it because it was so cheap, but I have yet to use anything I didn't like. They all seem to be great products that are made even better because you can get them at our local drugstore, or even grocery store, which is where I've been getting mine.

I have really sensitive skin and I shave my legs/underarms/what have you (yes, I'm a woman) and all the "after shaving" products for women destroy my skin and I end up in tears. Hello, I’m new to aftershave. I’ve been shaving for 10 years but have never used aftershave. I’ve always had sensitive skin, especially under my chin, my chin, and about my chin. I’m looking for something that helps with the sensitivity, bumps, redness, etc. As I stated, I’ve never used aftershave, from the videos I’ve reviewed, I’ve noticed individuals applying it around the neck. If I were to use this product on my face after I’ve shaved it entirely, am I going to want to apply it all over my face, or just around my neck?

Hey Nick, I really enjoy the Nivea balm because of the scent and alcohol free soothing performance. I really enjoy the Nivea shaving cream as well. Have you tried the Kiss My Face moisture shaves yet? Great ingredient list and fantastic performance as well in my opinion. I'm curious what you think. You should do a lather and shave review!

hey nick, great review! my personal favourite is the exact same balm but in the "sensitive cool" version (not sure if it is available in the US). it just gives an additional cooling sensation which feels really nice.
oh and another thing about your nivea sensitive shaving cream! for some reason you can't buy this shaving cream over here in europe (!?!). seems odd but i could only find the "original mild" shaving cream...
    greetings from germany :)

How is this with oily skin, prone to break out with pimples? I found that using too many aftershaves with drying effects, tend to cause my skin to break out with pimples.

I don't recommend the NIVEA aftershave balm. I recommend the Gillette aftershave GEL, this is a great product, I always used in Perú, but after some time it become more expensive. When I start to use it, its price was 7 peruvian soles ( like 2.5 dollars) it was in 2000 year. But now in Perú it cost 30 soles aprox 10 dollars. Now in 2020 I am in Spain and here it's more difficult find the Gillete Aftershave and it cost like 8 euros and only I could find it in "El Corte Inglés". happily i was able to find its replacement: BABARIA AFTERSHAVE GEL 3 EFECTOS and only cost 2.25 euros. I recommend it!!!

I bought this in Mexico and I noticed that it is German, very good ingredients. I do not know if it is paraben free but I like it (my be the FSC pine drawing or the letters PAP means that it is paraben free, I think this may be kind of certification. I will appreciate if if you make a review of Florena Men ENERGY After Shave FLUID mit Guarana 100ml 3.4floz which is German. Thank you.

Hmmmm... never tried nivea products. Seen them everywhere, thought they maybe soso. Ill have to give them a try. I'm drawn to barbershop fragerances in general. I use an unscented balm after shave after I shave then after half hour I'll use a classic after shave like Pinaud Clubman---Great stuff.
But thanks again I'll try it, especialy since its cheap and easily atainable

Hey Nick, have you tried the nivea sensitive splash? It's just as refreshing and replenishing as the balm, just a little lighter although I probably still prefer the balm. And still no alcohol of course

I have a problem with razor burn on my neck and I want to get a lotion or after shave to help the irritation and dry skin. My question is, what would you recommend and would the smell also clash with the deodorant I use, Old Spice Swagger. Great videos by the way!

I say give it a try. The scent is mildly floral to my nose, but not in a feminine way. It's nice and clean, and not overpowering.
Overall, I find it relatively neutral and It seems to dissipate quickly.

I wanted nothing to do with this stuff because it was not "traditional" Plus I have somewhat oily skin and didn't want to get this stuff into my pores. Being new to wet shaving I would cause irritation to my face because of a lack of good technique. I finally gave in to Nicks advice and purchased the Nivea post shave balm. Now with only a few exceptions I put on the Nivea before applying one of the myriad of aftershaves and colognes I now own.

I have very very sensitive skin. I never use after shave because , 1. I have extremely sensitive skin. 2. I also have oily skin. It also doesnt help out i live in central florida. My question is this, after a shave should i wait a while maybe 10-15 minutes to apply this balm or any aftershave? Or will i be fine if I applied it directly after a shave. My set up is currently. Futur with feather blades and a pure badger brush from the art of shaving with caties bubbles gardenia. pleasae help lol

I love the irony, that more women than men use this product, as a primer foundation thingy, as it holds their makeup better than those 50+$ products :P You women, let us men have something for ourselves for a change, gez :D

Hey Nick, I had a few questions about the Proraso aftershave products. Is there any difference between the aftershave balm and the liquid cream aftershave? Which is actually more effective and how does it perform compared to the Nivea sensitive balm?

Recently switched to DE shaving and have been using alcohol based witch hazel aftershave ever since. I had the Nivea laying around and tried it today. It was horrible, I got no relief for skin irritation, quite in the contrary the feeling got worse. Never going to use it again.
