God I’d forgotten how many times they cut to the same shots of the Dalek city or to show that they run on static electricity from the floor. You could make a drinking game from it
I think what's important is that while yes the original wont go away, because this is likely the only time we will see these episodes colourised officially its a shame when liberties are taken and oddities are added for seemingly no reason beyond making it more appealing to fans of the new series or at least people who are not that interested in 60s who in the first place. (also just saying the Tardis console always has and always will be green)
There is an art to editing down a Doctor Who serial into a shortened movie format omnibus compilation. A number of the old omnibus format edits of Pertwee stories the BBC aired for repeat viewing in the seventies, like "The Daemons" and the "Sea Devils," are just as enjoyable as the full six part versions. I would argue that the 1 hour 45 minute omnibus edit of "Planet of the Spiders" is superior to the full episodic version. I can, in theory, see a 90 to 120 minute cut down edit of "The Daleks" working, depending on what was cut and what was kept . . . certainly working a lot better than the 75 minute botched abortion we got. However, either RTD or the BBC seem wedded to the idea that these cutdowns must not exceed 75-90 minutes, to the detriment of the story.
I think the War Games colourization will at least look better. The clips in the trailer have much more realistic tones and the superior visual quality of the layer 60s seasons will insure there isn’t as much loss of detail or weird smudging that the Daleks has. As for the actual edit that’s a wait and see kind of thing, let’s hope they’ve learned a few lessons…
I had my thoughts, maybe I'd give this a purchase at some point to have a try of it, but thanks for the video. I think I'll give it a pass. Not sure how The War Games in colour would do.
Thing was when the original video realeases where released they did cut down versions of some story's then they put the story's in episodic format now they are shoving them back in 90mins and with choppy editing
Finally a video giving this train wreck the critique it deserves. While I’m not entirely against the idea of colourising & re-editing classic who stories, the Daleks in Colour in my opinion is one of the worst products I’ve seen from this franchise. The editing in it is atrocious. None of the story beats are allowed to land, the pacing is way too fast & all the added music, sfx & Dalek voices stick out like a sore thumb. Since the run time for the war games in colour is confirmed to be 90 minutes it baffles me why these remakes are cut down to a length less than half of the run time of the original.
The repetitive editing of this version actually made it feel longer despite the short length

@BH-98 And the bits where they kept on cutting back to that scene with The Doctor and Ian in the jungle
You're not missing the point you've hit the nail on the head

Another great video! Love the iconic Nick reference at the end too. 😄

The colorised versions of classic who looks way too garish i will stick to the original format
good video Will
Yes- wasn't a fan of the colorisation- they really ballsed up Tristam Carey's gorgeous soundtrack
I'm not a fan of the editedcut-down colourised versions I have to be honest I prefer the black and white originals.
