Is there anything wrong with what the Doctor did?

Disliked this episode. Both the doctor and Clara seemed so out of character. Him refusing to help for no real reason, and she getting angry because he wanted to allow them to make a decision on their own. Felt very much like forced conflict by the writers to try to punch up a boring story

I felt very confused when Doctor decided not to help, too.

@@K_InTheWaterhe was pretty sure they would be okay regardless of the choice made, and without a major threat to the planet, he stepped back and told them that it is their world and their decision on how to handle it. If there is no threat to the planet and the people he cares for, he takes a stance of non-interference. It is technically on character for the Doctor. When he chose to step back, I knew there was no threat, and he was testing humanity, something he does often when given the chance.

I felt bad for both the doctor and clara in that moment, because she was right that what he did was messed up, but also he genuinely believed that he helped in the best way he could. he wasn't exactly in a very comfortable place himself in that situation; they made the right choice but he got blamed for being cold and distant, but if he intervened and couldn't stop them making the bad decision, he would've been blamed for that too
so he made his decision based on his past experience: he was there when the fate of his planet rested on one man, and he's the first doctor after 11 to remember that gallifrey didn't actually fall that day
he tried to help by giving them autonamy. the fate of the humans, after all, should rest on a human the same way the fate of the time lords rested on a time lord. so he took clara, the one human he trusted the most in the entire universe (at least in that moment), he gave her the burden of an impossible decision so that she could have the gift of making the right one, and she was in every right to hate him for it

Might want to let him take you back to your own time period before he leaves

"I'll smack you so hard you'll regenerate"
At least Jodie didn't get that kind of abuse. Well, not from the cast.

13 got exactly the treatment, the writing was terrible, the scripts where terrible the acting was terrible.

@@samuelfawell9159I think Jodie Whitaker did the best she could in the given circumstances. If you’ll remember the old saying, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sous ear? If the script, the direction and the production are not up to scratch, what can you do? 🤷🏻‍♀️

As bad as an episode it was, this bit was actually pretty good and i enjoyed it a lot when i watched it years ago. I think the doctor deserved the telling off he got from Clara, even if it was for some stupid reason

There's a video essay about this episode weirdly being a pro-life allegory. I don't know how accurate that is but it's an interesting video

This is why Amy is the goat. Don’t get me wrong, Clara is a good companion ,but Amy made the hard choice like that with the whale when even the doctor didn’t even have the answer to. And Amy was right because she paid attention and followed her own wit

It's amazing that she trusted the doctor in literally everything else, but when he did this, she threw a temper tantrum because he didn't hold her hand. I'm not saying g this was good writing, by the way. This was one of the stupidest episodes ever.

I disliked the episode for a few reasons, but to answer your question, yes, the Doctor was wrong. What Clara was said was correct. As her friend, he should not have put her in that position, let alone a minor (student Courtney Woods).

Clara was a child always looking for the doctor to make the hard choice so she didnt have to. when it’s up to her she stomps her feet and throws a tantrum like a child. Definitely not mature in any way dispite her always pretending she’s the more grown up. this episode pissed my off…

I read this somewhere, and I think it apt. “Fear makes children of us all.” And you can’t doubt that Clara was scared snitless through this episode. This anger was the after effects of the massive adrenaline rush that the fear stimulated. Some yell, some curl up in a ball and cry, some just silently walk away. Or, as in Amy,’s case, some want to snog the nearest male. Also, I have to ask why the Doctor brought Clara to that point in time in the first place? Was he trying to test her abilities? Was he trying to show her how hard it is to be the Doctor? Was he being arrogant and show offy? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I ignore the existence of this episode, and of "Love and Monsters". Both are exceptionally dumb.

Give season 10 and the specials a go. 12 has an arc. This is his first season where he's cold, abrasive unsure of himself. By the final he's warm, compassionate, kind and found the purpose to his life. I didnt enjoy his early characterisation and really didn't like Clara either, but giving late Capaldi a go really changed my mind

I’m on a love hate thing with 12. It hit a rocky patch or two with the whole she’s my carer, she cares so I don’t have to line and the emotional cue cards. Also the trying to hide his feelings for Clara with those barbed remarks. But, there were moments of pure Doctor magic too. 🤷🏻‍♀️
