I’m still using my old style (teal?) big shot with the extended platform, the biggest problem I have is that it has some screws loose 😂 or more accurately lost, so everything is a bit wobbly and the surface of the handles are peeling and even though I use it quite a lot, and I have a set of replacement cutting plates ready to go, I’m still using the really worn old ones out of habit. To be honest, the whole thing looks pretty sorry for itself but still cuts brilliantly 👍
I was soooo hoping instead of all talking about the machines you would DO something with it! I purchased a sizzex plus machine and have never used one.
Betty - this video is specifically to explain about these accessories- I do have a video that runs through all the basics - have a scroll through, it’s called Beginners Guide to using the Big Shot.
Hi just watch your video with the ¨New Platform¨ and wondered why I have this big clumsy platform, you just explained it in your 2nd short video. I just received my NEW machine with the old platform. It was ordered thru Amazon. I actually want to know how to make my own dies. As a painter I was hoping to create my own images in combination of the geometric shape that I can purchase!
Thank you! I just bought a second hand big Kick it came with the magnetic and hinged thingies. It also came with warped plates!! What size plates should I purchase?
Hi there. I bought a new big shot with the Base Platform and the Thin Die Adapter Plate. The thin Die Adapter plate has since warped terribly but I can not find a STANDARD SIZED replacement anywhere. Do you happen know if Sizzix makes them and where I could purchase it from?
I have all the platforms. I'm old. But, the newest platform is shredding on the sides. Some of my friends is the same. We are careful. Problem is I can't get a replacement. They all are extended plates. I had even old Vagabond platform too. I find it confusing with the thin clip on layers
I have just bought the chrome cutting plate, so excited to get it…but it won’t work with the ‘new’ baseplate! The sandwich is so thin I can push it back and forth with my hands, no handle needed because no pressure whatsoever! I’m at a loss what to do! The thinlets plate you get with the new baseplate very quickly got chewed up around the sides which does show on card so I can only cut in the very middle…I thought the chrome plate would replace it….. it no. I tried adding it in but now the sandwich too thick! Any help appreciated…please?!
Hello Sharon! I hope you are doing great! I just watched two of your videos because I received my Sizzix Big Shot from Amazon today. I was really surprised to find out that the extended platform is actually an old version. Would you mind explaining the difference between The Big Shot and The Big Shot Plus? I’m wondering if I should return this one. I would appreciate your opinion very much. I’ve never used these machines at all. Thanks so much!! Valarie from California USA
Yes, all the machines now come with a simplified platform (as a lot of people didn’t like the hinged version). The new platfoms are less cumbersome and less complicated. The Big Shot Plus has the largest platform, the Big Shot is smaller. I have a video comparison on both you should check out if you’re not sure which is best.
Hello Sharon, thanks for your explanations. I bought a big shot foldaway years ago and it came with what you refer to as the “new platform”. Today I have been looking for a replacement of the thin die adapter which has recently deteriorated with the upper film getting separated from its support. Even on the Sizzix website I can only find the “universal platform” which looks like the hinged platform you refer to as “old”. Is this only in Europe and do you know how I could get a spare “new” platform?. Many thanks
Hi, I’m confused. I’ve just bought my platform new and still got the multipurpose with the tabs. I cannot find one without tabs except for the magnetic one. Did they discontinue as soon as released?
No, both are still available as far as I know, I guess they just go in and out of stock depending on where you are, and not all Sizzix retailers carry the accessories.
Hi Sharon, thanks for your videos on the big shot plus, I’ve just received mine yesterday and had a play cutting out Tim holtz snowflakes thinlets yesterday with varying degrees of success with different card. Anyway, my problem this morning is one of the clear cutting plates is warped badly. I put them away in the plastic bag they came in last last night and this morning one is warped. Can you tell me what I’ve done wrong please or advise me what to do? Is it possible to straighten it out at all? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, I loved your videos..x
Hi Andrea, just keep rotating and flipping your plates as you use them- the pressure from the machine will keep them even enough. Not sure why they would warp when stored unless you put them near a heat source, but just keep using them and they should be fine.
Hi Sharon…I have the big shot plus, bought last year, and am wondering can I use the base platform for the standard big shot and not need the adapter A or B that came with my big shot plus. Thanks!
You can - it’s not showing on the website at the moment but here’s the link - shrsl.com/3vaml. You can also buy the older versions if you have the new one and want the versatility.
Hi Sharon! Your videos have been so helpful. I purchased a Big Shot (with the writing on the top) and it did not come with any platforms. I want to use this to cut alphabet letters for scrapbook titles. What platforms should I purchase? Thanks 😊
Hi Laurie. You will need a base platform - if you get the multipurpose platform with the tabs then you just need that, and two clear cutting plates. If you get the platform without tabs, then you will also need a thin die adapter, then two clear cutting plates. Hope that helps! Both types of platform are readily available from Sizzix directly or retailers.
hmm this is interesting. I have a Big Shot with the shorter platforms, which I've had for years, but it doesn't work as well as it should, so today, I bought a new one and it has those extended platforms, so thinking that this extended thing is new, it is in-fact, old. I feel cheated 🙁
So glad you posted this because I have picked up the old one second hand to try
Thank you! I did in fact pick up a 2nd hand big shot, and this solved a lot of questions! ❤😊❤
I have the extended platform with the two tabs. I unscrewed mine at the hinges and find it much more user friendly.

Thanks for the clarification Sharon. Crafty tips well received 😊
Thanks, I have the older model that I still haven't used. You are Amazing !
Great informative video 🥰 I like the old platform better than the new ❤️ thanks for sharing and happy crafting Hugs xx

Thank you for sharing a helpful tutorial 👍❤

What is the difference from a metal adapter shim vs precicision plate
I've got the old big shot with that platform and then I have the smaller big shot, neither one of them cuts very well even though I put shims in. Xx
Can you emboss with this too???

You still need to use the thin metal adapter as well as the base plate. The chrome plate just replaces one of the cutting pads.

I look for a sizzix big shot machine and there are so many to chose from how do i know what to by
Have a look through my videos as I have videos on all the machines which should help you choose what’s right for you

I don't believe Sizzix sell that on it's own, but you could always email their customer service team to check.
Thank you Sharon 💙💙💙
Thanks for this Sharon. Can you use the precision base plate with the big shot plus?
It’s not recommended, the Plus already has greater pressure, so technically shouldn’t need it.

@@sharoncurtis thank you I’ve been doing that. One is now flat the other a little bowed but I will persevere. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Can you disassemble the hinges plates? If so do you think there's value in that, making it less cumbersome?
Yes you can, and I know lots of people have done that.
Hi Sharon…I have the big shot plus, bought last year, and am wondering can I use the base platform for the standard big shot and not need the adapter A or B that came with my big shot plus. Thanks!
Yes you can use the platform from the standard BS in the Plus.
Can we buy the newer version to use with our current machine?
You can - it’s not showing on the website at the moment but here’s the link - shrsl.com/3vaml. You can also buy the older versions if you have the new one and want the versatility.

@@sharoncurtis thanks so much! It’s the one with the pink writing on the handle. Wish someone had a bundle for these.
do you love the magnetic platform?
I know lots of people wouldn’t be without it, but personally, I never use mine.
@@sharoncurtis well then i can wait to decide and ill trust ill be okay ...i just ordered a Sizzix foldaway.
