Former WDW Cast Member and I did a backstage tour of this ride. My favorite fun fact is that in the ballroom, essentially impossible to see on the ride, there's a book of Florida tax laws because the only things certain in life are death and taxes
My dad is an Imagineer and there was a period of like a month when I was a kid where we had a Madame Leota mock up head and ball in the back seat of his car when he was coordinating that project.
HOLY SH*T I LITERALLY YELLED, AS SOON AS YOU GUYS STARTED THIS PODCAST I THOUGHT "man how cool would it be to have Dallin on the podcast - who knows though." AND HERE WE AARREEE
I remember once riding this in Magic Kingdom and the ride stopped for a few minutes as we were looking down on the ballroom scene. It's one of the best places for that to happen as you get to fully look around and see all the different things happening.
Yes! This happened to us when we rode it a bit ago too in Magic Kingdom (FL) and it’s so amazing when you get to take it in. I never noticed the dueling guys coming out of the portraits before because I’d focus on the bottom but when you’re stuck there you get to take it all in! Such a beautiful scene, I wish it went slower around it
Another reason that they have those raven animatronics is because some of them are actually cameras, like the one mentioned in the ride from the attic to the graveyard.
15:23 if u want to see a ride encapsulate that concept look at monster mansion at six flags over georgia. iirc a guy who worked on things like the country bear jamboree was comissioned to help design and build a ride at the beginning of the 80s for six flags to replace their old brer rabbit dark ride. they concocted the theme of a flooded georgia plantation house that has been occupied by monsters in the wake of its abandonment. its the most technically impressive non disney dark ride of the era and it traumatized many a child in the atl area. 107 animatronics, some of which standing 13 feet tall, and they manufactured a unique fur texture that was mold resistant so they could have so many furry characters on a water ride
Woah wasn’t expecting to see Offhand around these parts but I’m glad y’all had him on! Haunted Mansion is probably the best, most complete overall attraction in the parks, imo, and I love learning more about it. If y’all haven’t already looked, Offhand has a Halloween video that is about four hours of all of times he has talked about the mansion and it is really a great watch, especially tonight on Halloween. Highly encourage you check his channel out if you haven’t already and like stuff like this!
My youtube worlds are colliding! I rode a doombuggy with Offhand during the Haunted Mansion 50th event and I saw Ryan and Shane live in Philly last year during their tour.
I am a huge HM fan and visited Tokyo Disneyland this past July. The inside of the Mansion is pretty much identical to MK's original HM. It still has the neon spiders instead of the staircase and the original bride. The outside of the house is a little different, it also has a carriage house.
This is the crossover I never knew I needed 😍 I love both Offhand Disney and Watcher and y’all knocked it out of the park! Dallin was the perfect guest for this attraction.
i went to disneyland recently for halloween and waited almost 2hrs for this ride. it was worth it for the 'nightmare before christmas' decorations and animations and i was only on my phone in queue to take pictures of everything.
That “Haunted Mansion was once workshopped to be a water ride” tidbit is just that monster mansion ride from that one Six Flags park. My theory is someone knows that there is creative connective tissue between the two (I don’t remember the details but I wanna say some Imagineers worked with Six Flags) and wherever he got that fact the people who wrote it just overestimated how much the Disney crew brought over to Six Flags with them.
As someone who doesn't like Disney or amusement parks, hated them actually as a child- it is so pleasant to listen to people deep dive and go into rambling detail about the things they love and enjoy. One of the joys of life, special interests. Love this pod! Keep it up 👍
Can’t believe my favorite channels are crossing over! Please please PLEASE invite Dallin back when you cover Pirates so we can hear him cover the lore of Jean Lefitte!
Have the boys thought about how by doing this scorecard they’re also lowkey making a ranking of these rides? I’ll be interested to see what rides end up getting the highest scores
I don't even love Haunted Mansion, especially the overlay, but it is ALWAYS on my must-do list because it's just so iconic and nostalgic, and the lore is so rich. One of my first memories of it is going on it when we were the only ones in the stretching room and that just made it more terrifying as a kid 😂
I agree that the guests die by falling out the attic window into the graveyard. That’s why the caretaker and his dog are scared looking at all of us as we pass him. We’ve just become ghosts. As for the queue, my dad raised my brother and me on puns, so mine was the only family I’ve known that could stand in the line and genuinely laugh at the tombstone puns.
I like that it's allowed to be shockingly dark but also fun and light. The entire ride if you're on it for the first time, you're almost 99% certain you will get murdered until it turns out the ghosts are just drunk 60's beatnik guys with no interest in you.
It's interesting to me, as someone who loves amusement parks, that I'm not a huge fan of Disney. I don't know if it stems from the fact that as a child in the 80's everything was broken when I visited Disney World. I was 6 or 7 years old when we went for the first time. I only have vague memories. But I remember the stretching room actually being the only part of the Haunted Mansion that freaked me out and it was mainly because it gave me a bit of motion sickness. I remember liking the haunted mansion mainly because it didn't break down. 😂. There were so many rides not working while we were there. The ones that did work broke down. We had to be taken out of the peter pan ride by ladders. And we got stuck multiple times in It's A Small World. Which was the worst ride to get stuck on with that god awful song. We waited forever to ride Space Mountain only to have it shut down just as we were about to get on. As a rollercoaster lover Disney was a disappointment to me. At the time they only had Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain neither of which were super impressive. Although not being able to see where you're going in Space Mountain gave it a bit more of an edge. We went back when I was a teenager and I remember thinking everything was either made for little kids or adults I think I was a bit jaded at that point. 🤣 I hope to go back with my nieces someday as they love Disney and have been a few times. We're thinking about planning a west coast trip and hitting up Disneyland this summer.
The only ride I went on twice at Disney World, once during the day and once at night during the Not So Scary event. Also went on the Nightmare version at Disneyland. Absolute legend of a ride!
Note on the moms on phones - keep in mind it’s typically the moms organising everything. Booking the next ride on the Genie +, putting in a mobile order or reserving lunch, etc…it really takes away from the overall experience but that’s the system for now. :/ Also, APH here. HM is my favourite ride but no way I’d wait 60 minutes.
Haunted Mansion has always been my favorite. I have read so much about it. I have tons of collectibles. And, I hope some day to be filthy rich so I can have it reconstructed on some land so that I can live in it!
This was such a good episode! Not to be biased cause Haunted Mansion is my favorite but also including Dallian was a perfect addition for this episode.
Can't believe no one brought up Monster Mansion at Six Flags when Ryan mentioned the rumor that Haunted Mansion was intended to be a boat ride. It was actually designed by ex-Disney Imagineers, so it feels like a non-canonical version of the Disney ride.
I’m so happy to see more content from Watcher! You guys are all my comfort entertainment. I put it on in the background and rewatch old videos all the time ❤
i remember seeing offhand in the title a month ago and saying “i have to wait to watch this bc this crossover goes too hard” and now here i am. i love this pod
I used to be so scared of the tombstone jumpers, but then I found out that they only pop up at breaks in the song and it became so much easier to predict.
As someone who grew up going to Disneyland. I instantly could feel the difference of the stretching room in Florida’s park. And I love that. Also man, I’m bummed Dallin didn’t get to say anything about Jean Lefit. lol
I had thought that the Haunted Mansion had an early iteration of projection mapping for the Madam Leota figured head. So I thought it would be a pass for the Tony Stark test
Going through the Haunted Mansion exhibit before Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and seeing another nod to Greek mythology with Daphne from the story of Daphne and Apollo was an amazing experience
I’m sorry; but having to read Haunted Mansion facts and history to Offhand Dallin would be fucking *terrifying* I’d rather square off against Jean Lafitte…
The first time I went on it I was in my 20's and the Ballrooom blew my mind. I didn't know peppers ghost trick then, but even knowing it now it holds up. Amazing.
Former WDW Cast Member and I did a backstage tour of this ride. My favorite fun fact is that in the ballroom, essentially impossible to see on the ride, there's a book of Florida tax laws because the only things certain in life are death and taxes
That's hilarious I love it. I love imagineers sense of humor
This is a crossover I never expected to see!! Let's go Offhand Disney!! So many good boys
SO TRUE!!!!
I watched both of them before but I cant believe the two came together
This is the best
Me yelling at the screen when Ryan questions Dallin's love for Living With the Land "HAVE YOU NEVER WATCHED ANY OF HIS VIDEOS?!"
Right?
Getting THE singular Haunted Mansion Boy to do this was brilliant. This show is great and FRIGGIN OFFHAND IS HERE ugh I’m so happy
Love Offhand Disney! So glad you’re having Dallin on the podcast (especially on Haunted Mansion)!
My dad is an Imagineer and there was a period of like a month when I was a kid where we had a Madame Leota mock up head and ball in the back seat of his car when he was coordinating that project.
I am living for Dallin's "the fucking moms from Kansas....." 45:28
Two of my favorite people in one podcast, I am a happy girl!!
He rarely swears in his videos, so I was very pleasantly surprised.
@@gr33ngirlseaRarely? Has he ever?
HOLY SH*T I LITERALLY YELLED, AS SOON AS YOU GUYS STARTED THIS PODCAST I THOUGHT "man how cool would it be to have Dallin on the podcast - who knows though." AND HERE WE AARREEE
well, now you have to have him back when you get to Living on the Land, if you weren't already planning on it.
I remember once riding this in Magic Kingdom and the ride stopped for a few minutes as we were looking down on the ballroom scene. It's one of the best places for that to happen as you get to fully look around and see all the different things happening.
Lucky. Yeah, that goes by too quick.
i dont think I've ridden haunted mansion in magic Kingdom without it stopping at least once 😂
Yes! This happened to us when we rode it a bit ago too in Magic Kingdom (FL) and it’s so amazing when you get to take it in. I never noticed the dueling guys coming out of the portraits before because I’d focus on the bottom but when you’re stuck there you get to take it all in! Another reason that they have those raven animatronics is because some of them are actually cameras, like the one mentioned in the ride from the attic to the graveyard.
Dallin on WATCHER... It's like seeing Laverne & Shirley on Happy Days. Love Offhand! Dallin and Shane are brothers from other mothers.

DALLIN!! YESS!!! The crossover I never saw coming...so hyped for this episode!
NO WAY, LETS GOOOOO DALLIN! Loving this new podcast and Offhand Disney!!
This is the crossover I never knew I needed 😍 I love both Offhand Disney and Watcher and y’all knocked it out of the park! Dallin was the perfect guest for this attraction.
Haunted Mansion talk with the expert himself is my favorite Watcher Halloween 2023 anything
i went to disneyland recently for halloween and waited almost 2hrs for this ride. it was worth it for the 'nightmare before christmas' decorations and animations and i was only on my phone in queue to take pictures of everything.
Dude! Offhand! I met you in line for Space Mountain earlier this year. This is a fun colab for me.
That “Haunted Mansion was once workshopped to be a water ride” tidbit is just that monster mansion ride from that one Six Flags park.
My theory is someone knows that there is creative connective tissue between the two (I don’t remember the details but I wanna say some Imagineers worked with Six Flags) and wherever he got that fact the people who wrote it just overestimated how much the Disney crew brought over to Six Flags with them.
love how ryan also made a “this is like the zapruder film for ___” reference in both watcher podcast episodes this week
As someone who doesn't like Disney or amusement parks, hated them actually as a child- it is so pleasant to listen to people deep dive and go into rambling detail about the things they love and enjoy. One of the joys of life, special interests. Love this pod! Keep it up 👍
loved seeing dallin on here! if/when you guys do living with the land, PLEASE bring him back. he’s the perfect contender to fight for it’s honor
Bro seeing you guys nerd out like this is so fucking good, you guys have so much passion for this and I love it
52:57 LIVING WITH THE LAND IS LITERALLY SO FREAKING GOOD.
Can’t believe my favorite channels are crossing over! Please please PLEASE invite Dallin back when you cover Pirates so we can hear him cover the lore of Jean Lefitte!
Didn't expect to see Dallin on here but you can't have a haunted mansion podcast without Mr foolish mortals himself
You should have shown an top view of haunted mansion, the mansion we all see is so small, and the rest is a giant warehouse, it’s kind of funny to see
Oh, the PERFECT crossover for this season!!
the crossover i would’ve NEVER expected BUT ALSO THE BEST CROSSOVER
my absolute favorite collab, i just know i will be rewatching this ALL the time
OFFHAND DISNEY?!?! I never would've expected this 😭
Have the boys thought about how by doing this scorecard they’re also lowkey making a ranking of these rides? I’ll be interested to see what rides end up getting the highest scores

Heck yeah! Very smart to have Offhand Disney as a guest for this episode! Please bring him back for more!
Great team-up!

this podcast makes me so happy. I've always loved theme parks and like rides, but hearing people who know so much talk about it is so interesting 😊

I’m really enjoying the For Your Amusement podcast!

I would argue that Haunted Mansion passes the Tony Stark Test as it revolutionized the daily capacity of riders on an amusement park ride.
I bet the butterflies in the back were Shane’s idea
the collab I never expected omg
I have never clicked a video SO FAST, yo! The collab I never knew I needed ❤️
As someone who grew up going to Disneyland. I instantly could feel the difference of the stretching room in Florida’s park. And I love that.
Also man, I’m bummed Dallin didn’t get to say anything about Jean Lefit. lol
WHAT A CROSSOVER
Definitely not a crossover I expected but am very happy to see!!!
OMG DALLIN!!!!!!!! So excited for this one!!!!
OMG MY TWO FAVORITE CHANNELS COLLABORATING OMGGG!!!!!!!!!!!
As a fan of both my heart is so happy
This is the most wildly unexpected cross over I’m stoked
awesome episode, no one better to talk about Haunted Mansion with!
OMG can someone sponsor these boys already, I crack up every single time!
this is so clearly a world class attraction
I had thought that the Haunted Mansion had an early iteration of projection mapping for the Madam Leota figured head. So I thought it would be a pass for the Tony Stark test
Living with the Land is unironically my moms favorite ride of all time
Going through the Haunted Mansion exhibit before Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and seeing another nod to Greek mythology with Daphne from the story of Daphne and Apollo was an amazing experience
So psyched to see Dallin on here!
Omg best guest ever
I’m sorry; but having to read Haunted Mansion facts and history to Offhand Dallin would be fucking *terrifying*

Offhand Disney!!!
