Unofficial request/petition to have Byron’s mom come onto the podcast as a guest. It’s always interesting to hear her viewpoint compared to Byron’s and has some of the most fascinating perspectives when it comes to talking about theme park rides
That would be so sweet. I’d love to see it. I think that would be great for days when it’s only the two of them. They could bring her or Ryan’s brother to get some extra perspective.
Yessss!!!!
Mother’s Day!!
Never expected Ryan would get another wear out of that Indiana Jones costume.
Right! I’m surprised no one else is mentioning the treasure hunt episode of unsolved as where it comes from. Iconic.
If I had a nickel for every time Ryan randomly dressed up as Indiana Jones, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Never stop this series!!
I havent written before cause im never sure if people actually see comments on here but i just needed to say that this podcast - and all of the Watcher videos and podcasts - are so engaging and truly fun and refreshing - a lot of that has to do with Ryan who is absolutely peerless in the energy, honesty and unpretentious charm he brings to all of them - but also to Byron with his shaggy dog enthusiasm and Shane, the epitome of laconic irony. I am a theatre director and filmmaker, but most important, a total Disney theme park nerd, passionate foodie and lover of all things ghost and bigfoot related and watching and sharing time with all of you really makes my day so much brighter and more enjoyable. So even if you dont see this, thanks so much for all you do to make TH-cam a happier and less plastic place.
This is a beautifully written comment I love their content too it's reliably good quality
I love that they’re able to appeal to people who KNOW amusement parks and people who have never been to one. It’s not dumbed down but also not too technical.
Love the outfit, Ryan 😂 Should do themed outfits whenever possible
Second that.
55:10 legit made me tear up. As someone who doesn’t have kids and is midlife missing the days with my parents when I was young it got me how much detail your mom can remember and how it was obviously a great moment for your family.
That is wonderful i have been loving hearing these tales its very sweet and it makes the video feel more personal and cozy
I loved that moment as well! So sweet and such a nostalgic memory and so well told. Special time when we were young and had wonderful parents.
Meanwhile, I almost cried laughing when Ryan described clotheslining himself on the height cobra 😂
Two kinds of people lmao
My wife and I came back from Disneyland last night and while we were in line for Rise, the ride broke down. We received free lighting lane passes and decided to use it on either Rise or Indy. As much as we love Rise, we ultimately chose Indy and didn't regret our decision after we rode it. We've ridden Indy numerous times, and yet no matter how many times we've been on it, it's always a blast! Yes, it breaks down a lot but that's part of the experience for Indy lol. It's nearly 30 years old and yet one of the best rides in the resort. For me, Rise really depends on surprises and big reveals and after awhile, it doesn't have that same magic or same amazement you get the first time you rode it, imo. Dont get me wrong, it's still one of the best rides of all time. But so is Indy.
Funny the reverse happened to us last year . What a lame long waiting we had for Rise and was not working right and cast members wee not in proper script . Soooo we went to Indiana Jones
Nice! I definitely think this ride is special.
On my last trip to Disneyland Indy broke down right in front of the last scene and we had to be evacuated. When I rode the next day the ride had to be stopped because a foolish guest dropped their giant hat on the tracks (I know since it was the car in front of us), though they let us go through twice more in a row to compensate. Did I still queue up again even after all that? You bet!
Really love this podcast, haven't been to Disneyland in years and I live down the street but this series has definitely reignited my interest in the parks so much that i had to get a ticket for Disney nite tonight. Please keep this podcast going
The closer I live the less I go!! Lol
YESS!!! I always eagerly look forward to these each Tuesday and am so happy for these longer episodes. This is my new fav podcast and a great source of comfort. This passion project sparks so much joy and is a wonderful, essential contribution to the coasterhead community. I really hope that this podcast gets the long lifetime that it deserves.
I look forward to an episode on Tower of Terror. I'm a massive 20,000 Leagues fan and would be thrilled if you covered Les Mystères du Nautilus one day; maybe there could be a special episode going over some walk-through attractions?
Big love to Ryan, Byron, Sophia, and Matt
Yes! I had the pleasure of doing the walk through when I went to Paris! It was a little difficult to enjoy though because my friend who was in a wheelchair felt bad for blocking the walk way and wanted to leave. Still a beautiful attraction
I've only been to Disneyland once when I was a teenager and I am in my 30's now. The Indiana Jones ride is the only thing I truly remember about Disneyland
As a kid In 2004, I wore my platform flip flops to try to get on Indy and still wasn't tall enough. I was absolutely crushed. Love the pod!
For the falling ice effect, I think I remember hearing someone saying that it is to get a smoking debris effect you would see if you broke a chunk of stone and have it fall apart. I think it was supposed to be dry ice, and not water ice to get the desired effect, but the temperature draws in moisture out of the air which created the conditions to cause rust.
You guys not only kill it with the content, but you guys just continue to bring on awesome guests. I love that you're bringing in all the "Who's Who" of the theme park community
This podcast helps me get through the workday😮💨
I LITERALLY JUST FINISHED WRITING AN ESSAY ABOUT THIS RIDE!!!!
😭😭😭
just out of curiosity wat was the essay about/for?
@@kyannareevesIt was about the misrepresentation of Archaeology/ Archaeologists in media. I was supposed to write about the Films but I wrote about the ride instead. I got to look into the cultural inspiration for the ride like the inspiration of Mara and the structure of the temple. Also the ride lore taking place after the events of Temple of Doom (cause it’s set in India) It’s a class on debunking Pseudoscience it’s a lot of fun.
I’m going to Disneyland for the first time ever in a week. This is getting me even more excited and I hope I can ride Indiana jones!
Did you get to ride it!? Let us know 🎉
Went to Disneyland with my family at around 4-5 years old. My mom is a huge rollercoaster person, and this is one ride my dad isn’t sacred of so we went on it probably 5 times over the course of that trip. I was so terrified of the ride that I rode it with my eyes squeezed shut and my head down from the first moment you see Indy until it was over every single time we rode it,
I never saw the ride. Luckily for me that meant I got to ride it for the first time all over again when we went back a few years later when I was older and braver lol.
loving the length of these recent eps!!!
Ryan, Gen Z knows who Indy is! We saw Crystal Skull (woof)
Best series ever! Been waiting for Indy!
Guest request: Molly McCormack of Mammoth Club. She is super charismatic and knowledgeable in both Disney and Universal!
“The glory hole” *insert childish grin* 😂😂😂
Omg Indiana Jones YES I just rode the Tokyo equivalent last week
Oh thank God I'm about to have an anxiety attack over trying to vote in Alabama. Need this.
Good luck! 🫡
Im not even that into amusement parks but Ive been loving this pod! Very informative and entertaining :))
It’s so cool to see people I’ve been following on social media for years in the theme park space showing up on this pod. I love the theme park community and nerding out with yall.
So back in 2019 my friends and I went on this ride and the ride broke down near the boulder and it was pitch black and the music and sound went out as well. We were sitting like this for a couple of minutes and I knew we were close to the boulder but couldn’t tell how close we were to the drop. Turns out we we right at the drop because the lights were still off but the music kicked in and we just dropped into the darkness which is way more scarier than seeing a boulder coming at you 😂
Just came back and my sister was given a decoder card, didn’t even ask, so can confirm they still have some on hand.
Time to listen again :)
AHHHH my favorite ride in Disney Land and the first one I rode multiple times! Super excited for this ep (and two hours?? We are spoiled)
Me looking up ‘how much does it cost to sponsor a podcast’ cause I love you guys, I especially love listening to you talk about Disneyland rides and I just want this pod to succeed
I just wanted to point out that Dan Aykroyd is the only celebrity you guys mentioned that makes sense to be there for the opening: he has a cameo in Temple of Doom!
Pilot here:
When airplanes are certified for commercial passenger use they are required to be able to evacuate everyone within 90 seconds as the likelihood of higher death tolls increase after that amount of time on a burning plane.
So all these requirements around takeoff and landing about not leaning back, unplugging your phones, and having tray table are all to ensure that nothing will impede people’s ability to evacuate because seconds count!
Basically everything in the flight attendants preflight announcements/ video have to do with saving lives so make sure to pay attention!
Hope that helps!
I'm so excited to go to starwars night in April! You guys just remind me why I love Disneyland so much, and I couldn't resist going again another year in a row!
Everyday I wake up hoping for a new video from either pod watcher or FYA - I’m obsessed w these 🙌🏽 they’re perfect to get myself out of doom scrolling, I play them while I clean and just need entertaining, funny, interesting, and surprisingly educational content!
ive been waiting for this episode my whole life. best ride ever
Same!
Just leaving another positive message here for y'all, love this podcast, love the energy, love the enthusiasm and respect your effort soooo much
My favorite Indiana Jones ride memory is Grad Nite, I'm in the front row and behind me sits my classmate who has an amazing, operatic voice. He starts singing along with the choir sections of the soundtrack and gave us basically a live accompaniment to the ride. I didn't realize it was him singing at first since he melded in with the actual soundtrack so well.
Love the ride. It was awesome riding it as a teenager in the 90s. You did miss a bad though - Painted Plywood in the Dart Room! It always looks so cheap compared to the rest of the ride.
The DisneySEA version has sculpted relief faces seen earlier in the queue that blow compressed air at you before the giant skull smoke ring. I always hope they could replace the plywood at Disneyland for a stone-like wall with sculpted elements.
Let’s gooo, my morning bus ride podcast!
It's my drive home from work and drive to the theater podcast! 😊
since yall were asking about whether you can get the decoder cards, last time I was there I was just genuinely nice to a cast member when no one in the queue was listening to her, and she just slipped me a card like a drug deal lmao
OMG! How have I lived my whole life without connecting the other car backing up thing! 😂 I actually fell for that one in an actual grocery store parking lot a couple of months ago. I was with my Mom and had to convince her I wasn’t having a stroke or on drugs. Fantastic podcast as always!
I've been waiting for this one, this is my favorite ride in Disneyland
My family had carried an annual Disneyland trip tradition since I was born. When I was old enough to ride Indiana Jones it became a regular tradition to start our trip with Indy, and end it with Indy. That’s right. From rope drop, until the very last minute that we’re able to get on any ride it was always Indy. My parents aren’t together and our annual traditions ended as well. But when my own daughter is of age, I hope to carry that tradition. I will always love the sounds, smells, visuals and rough and ragged terrain of that wonderful ride. I’ll recite Sala’s instructions and words of caution to a T, I truly feel at home when I ride that ride!!!
I'm so glad you mentioned Patrick Begorra!! I always check if his little house is decorated whenever I go to Disneyland and I love telling my first-timer guests about him :)
Absolutely love this discussion about Indiana Jones Adventure! It's one of my all-time favorite attractions, and hearing Scott Gustin's insights added so much depth to my appreciation for it.
I'm still so bummed that this ride basically started refurbishment last year right when I made my way all the way down to Disneyland in 2022.
And hey, I'm Gen Z and I loved the Indiana Jones movies growing up.
Indy is one of my top favorite rides! I was blown away by it the first time I rode it and even when things aren’t working, I still have fun.
I was in my car on a terrible commute one day listening to the Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack and was pleasantly surprised to discover that the musical cue you always hear with Mara is actually the Ark theme!!
love this ride . happy for another ep too :D
I love this podcast so much pls never stop the theme park weirdos need it
That dinosaur ride is nuts. It rode it for the first and only time last year without knowing what to expect and it was terrifying 😂😂
I watched ride throughs and knew there was the big photo op scare moment and still freaked- my on ride photo is me, alone in my row, mid duck and scream while the group in the row behind me are cheesing and posing 💀
I just got super sick on it, the theming itself was great though
Let's goooo!
my delirious mind thinks i’ll be on this podcast some day and you keep doing all my ideas!! lol don’t worry i still have a banger attraction hmu…
This is my favourite podcast of all time - love seeing all my theme park favs on here ❤❤❤
I love that Ryan dresses up. ❤
I always have to say this, but the intro music makes me so happy
40:15 hey, I recognize that model 🤪
I also made a model of the ride vehicle (and it moves) which was the bane of my existence for a full week getting it to work lol.
Indiana Jones and THE Scott Gustin, never clicked so fast!
Man how cool would it be if they employed some sort of eye tracking tech at the beginning of the ride so that if everyone in your vehicle actually didn’t look into the eyes or Mara, you’d get a different (but equally cool) ride experience in some way. I could just imagine families coming off the ride being like, “dang it, we all decided we weren’t going to look into the eyes of Mara this time, which one of you did it?!” and some stinker little brother just keeps looking into the eyes and messing it up for everyone else every time they ride lmao
About 2 years ago I went on the ride and while I was in the queue I decided to finally get a pic of the Eeyore sign. A cast member noticed and gave me tips on the best place to stand and where to look and when I got the picture, he asked to see it. Once he confirmed I got it he whipped out a translator card and gave it to me! I was so surprised and happy and thanked him a ton. Still carry the card under my ID in my wallet because it's just such a special memory.
Every time I get off Indiana Jones I feel confirmation that it’s my favorite ride of all time
I’d been waiting for this video since the first one of this series and man I was so anxious when it came out 😅 but as always you guys fail to disappoint!! Love this pod, keep it up boys!!!
Hey hey, is Gen Zers know about Indie! I'm studying archaeology because of him *wink*
Countdown to Extinction was arguably right up there with Indy. Its current version Dinosaur suffers from Karen complaints along with the old Alien Encounter
favorite part of my tuesday is new FYA uploads!! my new favorite podcast!
14:22 I once had a skipper sing the boat ride song from Willy Wonka while we were going through the indoor portion 🫣
The Legendary Scott Gaustin? The Man, the Myth, the Legend?
The music timing for the ice sheet Bigfoot story was perfect.
Watcher Podcasts are such a blessing the quality of content is consistently great in all watcher productions and the amount of content being produced is also very impressive
Can’t miss podcast! Keep doing what you do guys!
I'm an oldest sibling so my mom would have me be "in charge" of covering my younger sister's eyes at that part where you have to avoid looking at the glowing red eyes when we were little. My mom loved leaning into the magic of it all and always had just as much fun as we did. I remember legitimately thinking I went to space when I went on Star Tours for the first time at 5 years old.
love this pod, been binging it these past 2 weeks
Honestly love this podcast. I haven’t listened to all episodes because I don’t want spoilers for what I haven’t been on but the Disney stuff is SO nostalgic. I find myself talking along with you guys sometimes 😂 such a great idea. Also, my dad lost his sunglasses on this ride, he foolishly left them hanging on his shirt placket, Disney never found them.
That is so weird that they'd get John Rhys-Davies's likeness and not his voice, especially considering I'm pretty sure they got him for a promo for the attraction that aired on the Disney Channel around the time the attraction came out. Why they'd suddenly switch to a sound-alike for the ride assets is beyond me.
Yeah, Sallah’s having a different voice actor is correct - there’s a video floating somewhere around TH-cam of a D23 panel of the different voice actors speaking about their roles and rides. Super fun.
I only ever went to the popular theme parks when i was really little and i dont remember much of anything. I can't afford to go nowadays and the closest park is six flags great america, hearing this podcast allows me to live through your experiences and hope that i can go again someday! It's also such a joy being able to hear your clear passion for this subject and makes me excited to listen to each episode
I really hope you get to go back one day! Good luck
This ride so perfectly captured what I wanted out of a ride as a kid-- Indiana Jones, ancient temple, wild effects, giant snakes, secret codes to decipher, amazing retro tomb rob-- er, archeological aesthetic. I was obsessed with the movies as a kid and convinced I'd never get to see it, but I got the chance to visit last year and that thing managed to live up to almost a decade and a half of hype.
I've only been on it three times (because I immediately hopped on again and made us go back later) but honestly I'm with Ryan, probably my favorite ride ever.
My brother also had the exact same face riding the Dinosaur ride. The exact same look of terror.
I’ve been rewatching all these episodes I love these !!!
keep this podcast going forever, ok?
I was wondering when you would cover this ride! Well done. Nice fit Ryan
I’m genuinely surprised that this podcast isn’t doing well. I tune into every episode and I love it. It’s not rage bait, the scoring system is silly, and yall bring in a lot of good information and sometimes correct misinformation! I’ll keep listening for sure
2 hours of greatness
I remember when this ride came out and how abc showed all the abc tv show ppl going on the ride. Then going the next weekend to wait in a 3.5 hr long line (I had the $199 season pass). It was fun having the cards and asking people walking back to the park up the exit corridor “how was the ride?” I remember the ice because I remember feeling water and mist during those moments.
I will definitely be listening to the calico mine episode.
I haven't been to Disney Land yet but the description sounds like a better version of the Mummy at Universal
Indy is my childhood fav ride. every time I ride it as an adult it has the same amount of adventure and charm as it did when I was 7!!!
I was at Disneyland this past Wednesday, and at Indiana Jones they make people wait outside in the pouring rain -- even-though they could fit all the people waiting in the 1/2 mile queue inside to keep them dry.
So first off yall are great! Love watching the content!
Secondly, love it when Ryan wears outfits based on what ride they are talking about and would love for it to be an every video thing but if not that’s cool too😂
Thirdly, the only thing I remember from going to Disney (the one and only time in kindergarten) is that Dinosaur ride I remember my dad sitting next to me because I couldn’t stop crying and I peed myself because I was so scared 😂we still talk about it to this day and I’m 22 😐😂
I am forever upset with 6-year-old me for not keeping my decoder card.
Okay maybe I am an older gen z-er but people keep saying Gen z doesnt know iconic things like Indy and Mean Girls? Like what?
Gen Z absolutely does! I think they're thinking of Gen Alpha, which are the kids (10 ish and younger)
Yay I have been waiting for this one 🥰🫶🏼
This is my happy podcast. I like to listen in chunks so it lasts even longer. I was lucky enough to go to Disneyland a few times as a child and I remember being afraid of Indiana Jones, but got on the ride anyway and left feeling so exhilarated. It was my first true thrill ride experience. I’m always stuck between Indy and Thunder Mtn for my favorite, but man, listening to this episode made me want to be in the queue so bad. You guys are doing a fantastic job with this podcast.
You guys are featuring some top notch guests! I hope you can snag Disney Dan for an episode.
When I left the park, they were still planning on putting an Indy stunt show back where ToonTown ended up.
LOVE THIS POD!!!
Love the Indy outfit 🧡🔥
Only speaking as someone who’s worked Star Tours, the CMs are the ones who call in the posted wait times, and it’s all guess work based on how long the line seems and if any cabins/ride vehicles are down-I cannot speak for what wait times are posted on the app for Genie+, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they ARE inflated to encourage purchasing
Scott's ride picture of him screaming sent me!!!
is there a way to set up a patreon if the ads are hard to come by? I absolutely love this podcast and love hearing your park stories.
I can't wait to see you guys get more sponsors you deserve it
As a DL attractions cast member regarding wait times, depending on how much of the queue is being used and/or how many vehicles are in use, that means a certain wait. Also wait times might not be inflated, theres just a consistent flow into the queue and there's not that many guests in the lightning lane so you can really move the standby lane! If its really busy and the lightning lane is looking too long (Indiana Jones LL is over the pirate bridge & holiday mansion LL is in critter country) the standby wait will definitely be inflated!
