    On a lighter note, the Windsors still have the Albertonian nose (Prince Philip, King Charles, Prince William and possibly Prince George). Princess Beatrice on the other hand is a replica of a young Queen Victoria. 🇿🇦

      I don’t see the connect with Prince Phillip. Was he a blood relative of Albert? 🤔
      Update. Elizabeth and Phillip were both the great great grandchildren of Victoria and Albert.

      Considering that Queen Victoria also blamed the Prince of Wales for her husband's death, and not recognizing her probable contribution to his demise, goes a long way to explain Edward VIII and Prince Henry Windsor-Mountbatten 's taking responsibility for their own actions. Oh, yeah; let's not forget her oldest grandchild, Wilhelm II. Runs in the family.

      Wilhelm ii did have pyschological issues.
      I am not sure how much was due to
      genetics and how much was due to
      his upbringing.

      I agree. Even after he
      abdicated and fled to
      the Netherlands both he
      and the Duke of Windsor
      (formerly Edward viii)
      thought that Hitler was
      not a danger to the world!
      I've often wondered if
      Duke of Windsor and
      Wilhem ii visited each
      other before or after
      the Duke's abdication.
      Wilhelm ii died in 1941

    Queen Victoria was not present at Albert's funeral. She had taken herself off to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. The chief mourner was the Prince of Wales at the funeral.

    All documentaries I’ve seen about QV, I’ve learned how she was cold and standoffish to her family, including her children. I thought Albert would’ve been the exception to the rule. Surprising to learn she rolled her eyes at his illness when he wasn’t well and still forced him to work.
    I don’t doubt she loved him indelibly, but I have to wonder if her great mourning was partly lined with guilt over perhaps not taking his illness as seriously as she should’ve.

    • @Queensofafrica8
      @Queensofafrica8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree, she probably felt a lot of guilt! I’m sure she blamed herself! I’m sure he looked forward to death, a break from always being sick and a break from a cold, selfish wife who didn’t give a damn about his health

    • @here_we_go_again2571
      @here_we_go_again2571 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Victoria did not have to
      "force" Prince Albert to
      work. He was a very
      intelligent and self-driven
      man.
      Her lack of empathy did
      not make his life easier.
      She was incredibly
      self-centered

    • @mangot589
      @mangot589 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sure she felt guilty to a certain extent. As is with the super robust, they can’t understand why others can’t just “shake it off”. And her self centerness was off the charts, which didn’t help. That being said, she WAS very concerned about him. She really tried to get him to rest. To not work so hard. She would have been over the moon, as anybody married to a workaholic knows, and she was also obsessed with him, to boot. Also, She honestly believed that being in “cold, fresh air” was like a health tonic. And cold seemed to have no effect on her. She’s like that friend everybody has that wears shorts in the snow. But poor Albert, shivering in his rooms.🙈. I mean. Let the dude light a fire in his OWN rooms. He’s cold! It’s winter in England! Or even worse, Scotland! People DREADED visiting her in cold weather. Plus it wasn’t “manly” to do your dang best to stay dry back then. Victorias own (very robust, apparently) father died after being “soaked to the skin” (which is how Albert was described) after an outing on a very cold day. 🤷‍♀️. I’ve never read anything about any lady “soaked to the skin”. Victoria herself was always warm and dry. She’d have water repellent skins with furs and blankets under them in her open carriage. while Albert trotted alongside in the saddle, in completely ineffective, but I’m sure very! dashing, riding clothes. Poor Albert. But Victoria pushed any guilt she possibly may have had onto Prince Bertie. Until she died she blamed him for Albert’s death.

      People didn't usually smile for portraits as it took so long they would have got face ache. There are some lovely photos of her smiling in her letter years. She had a charming smile.

  • @Beruthiel45
    @Beruthiel45 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Women didn't go to funerals then. Also, people didn't smile in photographs for 2 reasons. Firstly, because it was considered rude and vulgar to show the teeth - probably because the teeth were in poor condition - and secondly, because it took quite a while to take early photos so people had to stay rigidly still for some time. It was very difficult to hold a natural smile unchanged for as long as a photo required, so resting bitch face was the norm in photos of the time. Kaiser Wilhelm blamed his English mother, a daughter of Victoria, for his withered arm which was damaged at birth. Facts, not speculation.

      English as a second language? Try capitals and periods on sentences. I don't know what a show queen is. Aloud (meaning out loud) should be allowed (permitted). One should ask why there are royals at all, rather than why times change and rules change with them.
